Friday Night Football Has It Worked?
My own view on the Friday night football has been good!:)
It's something I have never attended on a Friday before and there seems to be something special to me about playing under the floodlights! I think as an experiment if that is what it was, Is that for both games there seems to have been improved attendances, better atmosphere and it has just been something different. That has attracted a few more people who perhaps would not have even come to a Stanley match be it as a spectator or someone who attended via the Curry & Comedy nights which both seem to have been a great success and attracted different clientele to the corperate facilities who would not have perhaps attended on a Saturday. Don't get me wrong I still prefer my football on a Staurday and would not want that too change but perhaps it will give the club a couple of differnet platforms to build on that might have not been there previously!:) |
Re: Friday Night Football Has It Worked?
We've had a few friday nights before in conference [im sure cos that was my 1st match under tealights as it was then:rolleyes:] & started my regular visits hehehe:D
Yes they have been good for attendance & a cracking atmosphere - great alternative to going round town lol, still think we could of capitalised by playing a lot better against wrexham. |

Re: Friday Night Football Has It Worked?
Reckon the Friday night matches have been a qualified success. They've coincided with the arrival of the roof and that's worked in their favour. The Clayton End has certainly seemed more crowded and there seem to be quite a few new faces on there, too. There's been a good atmosphere, marred only by the poor display against Wrexham, as StanleyMad says.
Like Pendle Red, 3.00 Saturday afternoon is football time for me, but I think the occasional Friday nighter certainly wouldn't go amiss. |
Re: Friday Night Football Has It Worked?
as I dont normally go out on a friday night, I have enjoyed it. I still get my football fix but I have a full weekend to do whatever! unfortunately I got proper mashed on friday night and still seem to be suffering so the weekend has seen abosolutely no work done on or around the house :(. Mrs Macca is not amused.

Re: Friday Night Football Has It Worked?
Personally i like the Friday night games, i wouldn`t want them all to be on a Friday night though, but as an alternative evry now and again, i think with the roof on, it doesn`t seem as cold now, even though i wrapped up really well i was starting to get too hot, no need to don my gloves, hat or activate my hand warmers.
Plus the gate seems to be a bit bigger on a Friday night to. |
Re: Friday Night Football Has It Worked?
i think friday night has been a success as well as getting some young ones off the streets.i bet we have the youngest average age in lancashire going to stanley.i deem at least 250 people extra going to stanley a success...i like both sat and sun games but for the good of stanley i reckon most games should be on friday nights..
saturdays=1240 home support fridays =1550 home support figures dont lie......plus i think it will rise on friday night games... |

Macclesfield good, Wrexham bad. On the whole I don't like Friday night games, but the thing that filled me with dread was Stanley tried it, with some success, in 1958. :( |

Re: Friday Night Football Has It Worked?
other words we have stopped the rot for this season on attendancesif we keep playing on a friday night ,plus a bonus there seems to be lot more youngster that can only be good for the club.plus the other team are brfc who reduced prices but i didnt want to advertise the fact...if you have beenwatching stanley since 1958 or before you could be useful for the osc exhibition with memories you have ,like we could have a part with 1950s memorabilia with your voice telling tales about stanley in the 50s:)just an idea:):Banane25::Banane25:

Bananaman as a "beat poet"...ha ha, love it, Oggy! He seems to be under the impression that you actually went to these Friday night games in the 50's and you could relate your experiences for the exhibition.
As for the figures from the 50's, the first Friday night match against Brentford brought in 9.918 which was about 2-3,000 above the average gate at that time. The last one against Stockport in 1962 (a couple of weeks before the club resigned) attracted 1,760 which was typical of the sort of gates they were getting...which just goes to show, I suppose, that Friday nights are all well and good...until the novelty wears off. |
