It was the pace of Dsane that won the penalty and I thought that Whalley caused more problems (even if it wasn't always as planned) than the Sunderland lad did all afternoon, purely because he has pace. On the other side, what was the point of Miles? |
Re: vs Chesterfield
I can see both points concerning Whalley, he`s not that good a footballer, but when he came on he did cause them problems.
As for Miles i dont have an answer to that one. |

Re: vs Chesterfield
Whalley is surely as easy to deal with as a long ball up to Mullin. He's either going to cut in to get the ball on his right foot, at which point he should be tackled or he's going to attempt to run the defender and end up stubbing his left toe into the ground to watch the ball roll harmlessly away.
As for Miles, Branch and one or two others, only Coleman can tell us why he persists with them. |

Re: vs Chesterfield
Just got back from the match. Have to agree with what a few others have already posted and say that our first half display was poor. I can only assume that Coley's half time team talk was littered with colourful language to administer the kick up the backside that they all deserved.
Second half I think we may just have witnessed the first signs of the current situation easing slightly. Admittedly Chesterfield seemed to lose their way a little in the second half. There's still numerous bones of contention that give cause for concern.Personally speaking it's time Branch was put out to grass. Second home game running he's directed abuse towards his team mates to detract the attention from his own inadequacies. As others have said, I can't see why Miles was given a starting berth today as he's yet to do anything in a Stanley shirt that justifies his signing. As for Williams,he didn't have that bad a game today but that doesn't hide the fact that he's made countless mistakes this season that have cost us goals and points. The biggest plus to come out of todays game (the 3 points aside) has to be the fact that there was a bit more fight and determination in the second half and this paid dividends. IF we can continue to show the attitude on display in the 2nd half today we should achieve safety comfortably and hopefully get a few more people down to the F.E.S. Here's hoping !! |

Made my weekend.
Here's the Chesterfield Manager's take. Fast forward to 1hr 14 mins in. BBC iPlayer - Radio |
Re: vs Chesterfield
Chesterfield fan appreciated Stanley's performance, even if some of you ******* didn't:-
"Think you have to give credit to Accrington they showed passion and a work rate I have rarely seen and fully deserved the win." <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_193441--><!-- THE POST --> |
Re: vs Chesterfield
I think they must have been watching a different game. Nobody in their right mind could honestly say that. I'm glad we won, but it was a long way from a team performance.

Re: vs Chesterfield
today what a day first half we werent bad as some people say .we were putting a bit of effort in and there was glimpses of improvement.second half was brilliant compared to what we have been watching.what an atmosphere so much noise it was like cup final and we won it .anybody who missed todays game get down to the fes next week .if the team today show as much commitment today i could see us winning again...lets get the fes rocking like it was today.................and that big lump of you know what in goals should have walked.... love is aburning thing and it makes a firey ring

Re: vs Chesterfield
Just got back, after stopping off at various places along the way from the Crown to the Dog & Partridge, Heaton Mersey (via a meal in Chinatown with Mrs H). Yes, we did pick it up in the second half, although we still have serious problems in the team (Branch? Are you joking??). As someone has said, though, the Clayton End practically "sucked the second goal in". The atmosphere on there was absolutely electric. The Spiretes were totally outsung and the chaps (including those of us who don't sing much) got behind the team as one. I don't know what the rest of the season holds. but this afternoon (or at least the latter part of it) was magic!! :not_ripe::Banane25::Banane47:

Re: vs Chesterfield
everyones entitled to their opinion, but the fact is- they won, beat a side with a good away record. and whilst people are entitled to slag, it dont encourage people who go occasionally, when circs permit,to return i think.

Branch had quite a go at Bavs for putting him under a bit of pressure, an experienced professional sharing his experience with a team mate? However, to show goodwill, at this time of year, I'm modifying my signature accordingly. :) |
Re: vs Chesterfield
Can't add much to what folk have already said about yesterday, yes the three points are most welcome & it was good to get worked up about a game again, I'd almost forgotten what it felt like but one of the highlights for me was Procky's reaction towards the dugout after he scored the penalty :)

Re: vs Chesterfield
Just got to say how fantastic the clayton end was today, after their goalies little to do with Jay the tempo really rose, fantastic tactic to move down the terrace and give him some verbals right in the earhole it seemed to un-nerve their defence no end 12/10 to the clayton end.

Re: vs Chesterfield
Coley should tell the players to provoke a ruck 20 minutes into every game, because it gets the passions going.
To reiterate what somebody else has already said - it was nice to finally get excited about a game again. |

Re: vs Chesterfield
More thoughts from the Chesterfield messageboard - thanks very much:-
"I thought the little band of home fans behind the goal did their team proud throughout the 90mins, although we had big numbers again our vocal support was poor in comparison. The Stanley fans in the pub were very friendly, their ground was crap, but both their players and fans performed with passion, which was lacking from us (players and fans alike and Ricco for that matter)." |
Re: vs Chesterfield
Also from the spireites forum (doesn't thius sound familiar??):
"Poor midfield passing (usually to an opponent,) the lump it ball to [Ward]. (Hello!!! 9 time out of 10 it will fail.) second to the ball in tackles. lump it kick the back straight to an opponent. no apparent tactical plan to win the game. no attempt to play football and get behind them like good teams do. no imagination. (persist with the tired old game plan regardless.) no individual player improvements. no rehearsed moves from the training ground. and for heavens sake DO SOMETHING ABOUT THOSE FLIPPIN CORNERS. The only tactic I could make out was. 'lump it and we might get lucky.' Not good enough." .....and they are talking about Chesterfield not Stanley!! |

Re: vs Chesterfield
IMO
1st half no balance in the team. I know I have long questioned miles, but today he was as lazy as ever. Dont get me wrong, he has got ability - that is the frustrating thing. He is just bone idol. To often it would be richardson behind him going forward and providing the width, with Miles constantly going inside rather than pulling out the defence and creating space for Craney. I also thought the central midfield constantly left gaping holes behind them in the first half. Williams was poor and was lucky not to be booked for a handball, roberts saved him a few times. Graham Branch highlighted the dis-unity in the squad, a few times Craney, Miles, Dunbavin and Harris shouted at each other. Second half - was won by roscoe, the crowd and dare I say it shaun Whalley. For all his faults, he does try. And he caused them problems and limited their right back from supporting their offensive play. Branch and Miles are 2 journeymen who are here for the wage check. I think we might struggle to get rid of them. The sunderland kid didnt look great. He was a bit nervous, Branch failed to provide adequate support and he didnt seem to have much of a football brain. Maybe it will come with games? BTW- for once a 2 great tactical moves by Coleman in Proccy and Whalley. It looks like being dropped has done Proccy the world of good. |
