That's what I love about AccyWeb. Eventually we find out all kinds of things and even if we have vague ideas about something somebody else will come along with the full details. It's brilliant isn't it?

Accrington FC played at the Cricket Ground when they were in the league. I think Stanley Villa just played their games on local playing fields, being an amateur lads' club. When the two clubs merged, they played at Moorhead Park, where the school is now. For one season (1897-8), they moved to Bell's Temperance Ground in Woodnook which was at the junction of Belfield Road and Nuttall Street, before moving back to Moorfield. They eventually moved to Peel Park in 1919, having bought the ground for £2,500.

As a lot of streets were named after someone, except for Pansy Street (:D), was Stanley Street named after a particular person?

With a name like Stanley I'd be surprised if it wasn't. I wonder if anyone knows who.

Stanley is the family name of the Earls of Derby who own half Lancashire.

While we`re on the subject of where names originate, i`ve always been curious as to where "On Stanley On" originates, i know its part of a peom, but how did it become a chant and slogon of the club ?, i know this may be a tough one to answer as it will no doubt have originated way back when, but you never know someone out there may know the answer.

it was a song sung by the Accrington Male Voice Choir in 1955;

On Stanley Onwards
'til we get the ball into the net
its On Stanley On

Maybe their was already a 'saying' as such but that is where it came to popular prominence. It should never be forgotten because it is another Stanley Uniquey

They know their football, over there. ;)

Anyway, this thread is ideal for plugging next year's exhibition (July/Aug 2008). The factual stuff should all be there, but even better, stories will be there from Stanley fans who have followed the Club's fortunes over the years.

Anybody who has yet to read the "sticky" thread at the top of the messageboard, please do so, it's not too late to volunteer. And if you have a story that involves Stanley please forward it, or get in touch with any of the volunteers (I'm one, btw). The profile of the exhibition is to be raised during January, please keep an eye out for further information.

"On Stanley On" ? We'll know by July, it'll be worth the wait. ;) :) (Such a slow typer you now already know, but there will be more, much more.)
