Blue Square is a coming…….
Gutted, I like Mr Boco, no doubt he’ll go on to better things. I hope he does well; moves up and prospers. All the Best Mr Boco, you wont be forgotten. |
Re: not certain BUT.......
******, ****** and thrice ******!!!! I know there's been reports that Rommy's not been happy but I for one am gutted :(
Good luck to Rommy wherever he goes from here though - he'll always be remembered as the scorer of Stanleys first goal back in the Football league - as well as for his mean moves on the dance floor at the presentation night do when we won the league :) Just a shame we won't get to say a proper goodbye |
Re: not certain BUT.......
couldnt we have sold him? surely the african nations exposure would have gottten somebody interested?
|
Re: not certain BUT.......
Very sad news indeed, I know that Rommy was a little injury prone this season so we didnt see the best of Him but as a person he was always the gentleman.
Good luck Rommy and thankyou. I must agree with Dav007 though, surely it would have been better to sell rather than let Him go? Who's next I find myself asking? |

Re: not certain BUT.......
well ther you are guess it became official, it all happend at the reserves today, think he were expecting to play in that game i spoke to him there. i know this has been mentioned in another thread but do you think the telegraph report was true? i know that the irish league was mentioned today and i quote JB "cookey i a friend of mine but he'll try and sell ewt, just make sure u certain lad" to be fair if he stays in england i feel its conferance football or lower for he lad untill we sign him up in a season a so like we have done wi the old guard this season:D
anyway smashing lad to have at the club glad to have known him. even today spoke to people that were at the reserves good luck mr boco hope everything goes well |

|
Re: not certain BUT.......
Sad. Wonder if Coley will have anything to say?
|
Re: not certain BUT.......
My partner is not a Stanley Fan, in fact I considered divorce, but in truth she was gobbsmacked when I told her Rommey was leaving, she even watched the ACN matches too see him.
I really think this is a bad day for us. |
Re: not certain BUT.......
If the Telegraph story was true, then it won't be the first time that players have been forced out of the club due to xenophobic attitudes.
I think there's a tendency when players leave the club to sentimentalise them. Boco was ok in the Conference, but to be honest he hasn't really made the step up since we won promotion. I can't see any English league clubs lining up to sign him. If he does stay in the UK I'd be surprised if he became a regular in any team above Blue Square Premier level. |
Re: not certain BUT.......
Quite upset at this but not surprised.
Gutted for a few reasons; 1) Alone; Rommy's presence in a Stanley shirt brought life to the whole team. Passes improved when he was involved, we showed skill and confidence. 2) How great was it to see a lad so happy to play football in the modern day! Of course, with this much personal passion in his game; it was inevitable that with things going wrong off the pitch, performances upon it would be affected. 3) As others have said if we'd have put him on the transfer list in the summer we'd have achieved a transfer fee, however as it is we've probably had to pay his contract out! 4) A true gent. |

came 'home' for the Leicester game last year and applauded Rommy as he headed for the dressing rooms after the game - seeing this, he came over to shake hands with this ordinary fan. What a gent - other than Mullers once saying hello during a warm up, no other player has acknowledged my support.Shame to see him leave - respect and best wishes, Rommy.

Agreed. Very sorry to see him go, but if a player is unsettled and doesn't want to stay, then it's pointless to stand in his way. Bonne chance Rommy, et tous nos meilleurs souhaits pour l'avenir!

Re: not certain BUT.......
My daughter and her classmates loved it when he went to a local school to help with their french lesson, his visit persueded some of them to attend Stanley games.

Re: not certain BUT.......
Gutted which player am I gonna ambush into being the ladies team lucky mascot now!!! We never lost when he came to watch, in fact we got our first draw and our first win whilst in his presence!!! I'll never forget the look on his face when the final whistle went on our first win and 30 odd people rushed on to the pitch and started jumping around like we'd won the world cup, total confusion combined with the biggest smile on the planet!!!! I'll miss him. :(
One lad who in his own words was definately not a 'bad player'!!!:D Good luck Rommy. |
Re: not certain BUT.......
Gutted, Cant believe he`s going
|
Re: not certain BUT.......
am not too fussed to be honest we need players who want to be here and if he didnt then no point keepeing him. coleman says he was homesick so if he signs for any1 else i will be very dissappointed. bocos main problem was he didnt really have a proper position.
|
Re: not certain BUT.......
Apparently he had suffered a very bad facial injury...:(
Good luck Rommy you deserved better. |

ye think boco could join us?? heard something the other day..... |
Re: not certain BUT.......
I don't think it's likely to be honest. He thought Accrington was too rural for him so can't see him moving to Ireland. Best of luck Rom wherever you go.

Re: not certain BUT.......
definitely talented but seemed scared of putting his foot in due to injuries he has received. We all really wanted him to succeed with us but it seemed like we were carrying a passenger most of the time. Hopefully, he'll get past his mental block and will show the promise again that made him one of Englands most expensive teenagers once upon a time.

Re: not certain BUT.......
well you can forget all that rubbish about homesickness then
|
Re: not certain BUT.......
Hmmmmmmmmmmm been thinking all sorts here bout why he left. Feel it was because he was away with ANC that deal done after window closed with "mutal agreement" statement.
Good luck Boco in whatever you do. Its just a shame it looks back door-ish the way things have happened |
Re: not certain BUT.......
The homesickness thing didn't really ring true to be honest, just hope that Rommy's happy at Sligo & that Cooky looks after him properly.
|
Re: not certain BUT.......
i go out for carnaval and when i come back i receive such a bad new :o

Re: not certain BUT.......
What? You mean the bright lights of "big city" Warrington weren't good enough to make him stay?;)

well good luck to him i like to think paul will treat him well, didnt know so many ex stanley playeers (well 4) were playing for cookey, shall keep a closer eye than what i have been doing on sligo nxt season. yes evil DOES have an attitude problem but if he comes back to the club and the fans give him a chance you never know we may have a striker that can score goals :)

Cheers Macca you too have seen enough of this blokes exploits on the pitch to make the same assumption that's possibly shared by his team mates and coleman no doubt got rid fast in order to stop the rot. Looking forward to next months game by which time you might of turned a corner but it'll be interesting this time round i'm sure Still think you have one of the best strikers in the league in Mullin so you'll always carry some threat up top, yep can't wait and have we got a roof over our heads yet? |

Acclaimed centre-half/defensive midfielder. Didn't get much of a chance here (five games max.) and played for Swansea once or twice. Rumours circled about him having a bit of an attitude problem, however regardless of that he was a good technical defender and many feel he should have been given a better chance with us.

Re: not certain BUT.......
So I get back to work after a holiday and find this.
Not impressed. In my opinion, one of the most skillfull players at ASFC in the modern era. Perhaps a bit lightweight for this division, I wouldn't be surprised to see him at a higher level in the future (where there are fewer cloggers). I am very concerned that two players have left the club with "homesickness" cited as a reason, only to pitch up no nearer home. Roscoe D'Sane is from South London, I think, probably no more than 60 miles nearer Torquay than it is Hyndburn and the last time I checked, Sligo was further from France than we are. Both players did have one fairly obvious thing in common. Hope I'm wrong, but it points to something very seriously wrong... |
Re: not certain BUT.......
Rommy scored a penalty on his Sligo debut after coming on as a 60th minute sub: Sligo Rovers F.C. - Athlone and Rovers stalemate as Boco gets off mark
|
Re: not certain BUT.......
Ah bless him, well done Rommy - looks like the good luck bear is working :)
|
Re: not certain BUT.......
In January 2008, Chris Butler left Barrow and moved to Sligo in the Eircom Irish Premier League for a small fee.
Mark Boyd - He moved to Eircom Irish Premier Lesague side Sligo Rovers in the summer of 2007, before his move to Barrow in January 2008. From Sligo messageboard - Ventre (now left Sligo) would certainly cost us points. You like to see a bit of passion in a player, but some of his tackling is downright dangerous. Swings and roundabouts in a small world. ;) Barrow fans weren't happy to see Psycho leave, but Sligo could offer a full-time contract. Be interesting to see what Sligo fans think of Chris's tackling. :) Paul Cook's travel agency - any more we don't know about?<!-- / message --><!-- sig --> |
