******, ****** and thrice ******!!!! I know there's been reports that Rommy's not been happy but I for one am gutted :(
Good luck to Rommy wherever he goes from here though - he'll always be remembered as the scorer of Stanleys first goal back in the Football league - as well as for his mean moves on the dance floor at the presentation night do when we won the league :) Just a shame we won't get to say a proper goodbye

Very sad news indeed, I know that Rommy was a little injury prone this season so we didnt see the best of Him but as a person he was always the gentleman.

Good luck Rommy and thankyou.

I must agree with Dav007 though, surely it would have been better to sell rather than let Him go?

They probably missed the transfer window and reckon that the money they'll save on wages would equal the amount they'd get at the next transfer opportunity.

well ther you are guess it became official, it all happend at the reserves today, think he were expecting to play in that game i spoke to him there. i know this has been mentioned in another thread but do you think the telegraph report was true? i know that the irish league was mentioned today and i quote JB "cookey i a friend of mine but he'll try and sell ewt, just make sure u certain lad" to be fair if he stays in england i feel its conferance football or lower for he lad untill we sign him up in a season a so like we have done wi the old guard this season:D
anyway smashing lad to have at the club glad to have known him. even today spoke to people that were at the reserves good luck mr boco hope everything goes well

My partner is not a Stanley Fan, in fact I considered divorce, but in truth she was gobbsmacked when I told her Rommey was leaving, she even watched the ACN matches too see him.

I really think this is a bad day for us.

Tin Monkey 06-02-2008 21:07

Re: not certain BUT.......

If the Telegraph story was true, then it won't be the first time that players have been forced out of the club due to xenophobic attitudes.

I think there's a tendency when players leave the club to sentimentalise them. Boco was ok in the Conference, but to be honest he hasn't really made the step up since we won promotion. I can't see any English league clubs lining up to sign him. If he does stay in the UK I'd be surprised if he became a regular in any team above Blue Square Premier level.

shakermaker 06-02-2008 21:10

Re: not certain BUT.......

Quite upset at this but not surprised.

Gutted for a few reasons;
1) Alone; Rommy's presence in a Stanley shirt brought life to the whole team. Passes improved when he was involved, we showed skill and confidence.
2) How great was it to see a lad so happy to play football in the modern day! Of course, with this much personal passion in his game; it was inevitable that with things going wrong off the pitch, performances upon it would be affected.
3) As others have said if we'd have put him on the transfer list in the summer we'd have achieved a transfer fee, however as it is we've probably had to pay his contract out!
4) A true gent.

came 'home' for the Leicester game last year and applauded Rommy as he headed for the dressing rooms after the game - seeing this, he came over to shake hands with this ordinary fan. What a gent - other than Mullers once saying hello during a warm up, no other player has acknowledged my support.Shame to see him leave - respect and best wishes, Rommy.

That reminds me of when he first joined us and when he was leaving the pitch I shouted "I love you Rommy" in French..he grinned and gave a big thumbs up...reminded him about it a year later on a night out and he remembered it, and we had a good laugh about it :D

Agreed. Very sorry to see him go, but if a player is unsettled and doesn't want to stay, then it's pointless to stand in his way. Bonne chance Rommy, et tous nos meilleurs souhaits pour l'avenir!

Who is the one fit striker? It can't be Mully because Coley says Mully is not a striker he is a target man.

How very true. The only player to acknowledge my presence at Hereford this season. A fine young man. As others have said, there was always a buzz when he was involved in the game. Quick, alert, able to create space for himself and others. Let's hope it's au revoir rather than adieu. Good luck, Rommy.

Cook was a superb player when he first came to us however when age caught up with him his performances on the pitch dwindled. He was a very good coach for us though; personally I feel we've desperately missed a coach who carried out his role at the club since his departure.

Very true, i miss cooky not only was he a great character onfield & a great coach [yeh i feel we have missed his coaching style] very instrumental on getting the team up to the league, but also great with the fans a people person & presence in clubhouse, very friendly approachable guy, always said hello then chat to u if you've known him for ages & always said goodbye before leaving:alright:

definitely talented but seemed scared of putting his foot in due to injuries he has received. whilst I wouldn't want to knock any returning player that particular player has already returned and failed to turn the tide of public opinion. He neither performed on the pitch as a footballer nor endeared himself to the fans with his repeateed thuggery

Cheers Macca you too have seen enough of this blokes exploits on the pitch to make the same assumption that's possibly shared by his team mates and coleman no doubt got rid fast in order to stop the rot.

Looking forward to next months game by which time you might of turned a corner but it'll be interesting this time round i'm sure

Acclaimed centre-half/defensive midfielder. Didn't get much of a chance here (five games max.) and played for Swansea once or twice. Rumours circled about him having a bit of an attitude problem, however regardless of that he was a good technical defender and many feel he should have been given a better chance with us.

So I get back to work after a holiday and find this.

Not impressed. In my opinion, one of the most skillfull players at ASFC in the modern era. Perhaps a bit lightweight for this division, I wouldn't be surprised to see him at a higher level in the future (where there are fewer cloggers).

I am very concerned that two players have left the club with "homesickness" cited as a reason, only to pitch up no nearer home. Roscoe D'Sane is from South London, I think, probably no more than 60 miles nearer Torquay than it is Hyndburn and the last time I checked, Sligo was further from France than we are.

Both players did have one fairly obvious thing in common.

Hope I'm wrong, but it points to something very seriously wrong...

Rommy scored a penalty on his Sligo debut after coming on as a 60th minute sub: Sligo Rovers F.C. - Athlone and Rovers stalemate as Boco gets off mark

In January 2008, Chris Butler left Barrow and moved to Sligo in the Eircom Irish Premier League for a small fee.

Mark Boyd - He moved to Eircom Irish Premier Lesague side Sligo Rovers in the summer of 2007, before his move to Barrow in January 2008.

From Sligo messageboard - Ventre (now left Sligo) would certainly cost us points. You like to see a bit of passion in a player, but some of his tackling is downright dangerous.

Swings and roundabouts in a small world. ;)

Barrow fans weren't happy to see Psycho leave, but Sligo could offer a full-time contract. Be interesting to see what Sligo fans think of Chris's tackling. :)

Paul Cook's travel agency - any more we don't know about?<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Not quite a Stanley link but Alan Moore who was on trial last night was a team mate of Cook's at Burnley. Jobs for the boys syndrome ? :D

Went to watch on of the sligo rovers games about 3 years back now,

one side of the family is from a small town called tobercurry about 30 mins from sligo

would be a lot cheeper to get over there if one of you was willing to drive as you could get ferry the just drive over, plus then you have a car to get around in :) and its only about a 3and half hour drive
