Craney to Morcambe????
Hi I was talking to a m8 of mine today who is well in at Morcambe and he reckons they have tabled two bids for Craney. Don't know how true this is but he was adamant and not usually one to bullsh*t. Anybody heard anything more about this who can confirm if it's true or not???
|
Re: Craney to MorEcambe????
Everyone knows how good Craney is (or was) before he went in search of greener grass, returning to you lot a mere shadow of his former self and really poor against us at the F.E.S (out of position granted)
Can't see it happening myself :rolleyz8: there's only ever been one player in your side i'd be over the moon at signing and that's Mr Mullin purely because he's one of the best in the business. |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
:) if what you say is true and i have no reason to dissbalieve you, then sure why not with the money on offer it could be used to buy kemp from the shrews and a new partener up front for PM,and get barry back,:)

I reckon that Sammy Mcilroy will be a bit more canny than JC was....The money available to him will buy better players than Ian Craney. But doesn't Ian owe us a decent season Mab ?.. He still has an awful lot of playing to do for 'the Reds' if he is to repay what the Stanley shelled out for him !. He has the talent, the skill, but didn't seem to want to play last season...hope his motivation returns. If it does then we'll succeed in improving our position in he Football League...NO DOUBT !!. I hope he stays...plays in 'HIS' position and proves me right !!. 'What me worry '.....just a bit !! |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
:) your right Yonmon,it was just a thought!!!with us having no cash to splash out on transfers,:)
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
i hope he stays and plays like he did before he went! if he does play in the right position then there is no reason we cant get higher in the league am not saying one player makes a team but when he does put the effort in and on form and socres goals like at morecambe! than we will get higher in the league he is under a 3 year contact so we would get alot of money if he went which i hope he does not want to go
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
we heard a week or two ago that Sammy had offered a player + cash for an attacking goal scoring midfielder and I thought it might be Craney.

If Craney played in his natural position of attacking midfield every game then he would still be at swansea.
We have to play him there next season |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
It was mentioned on Radio Lancs earlier tonight that Craney had been seen at Christie Park again, Coleman denied any knowledge of why he was there.
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
The headline in "The Morecambe Visitor" today is all about Morecambe hoping to sign Ian Craney.
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
I'm hoping my knee will dramatically heal and I will loose 20+ years thus being able to trial for Stanley.
...hope springs eternal... |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
You never know, could be player plus cash, and we may end up with a midfielder who can run, tackle and even jump and win a header.:rolleyes:

Re: Craney to Morcambe????

very likely to be cash + a player as reported earlier in the Summer. Depends what part of your team Coley wants to strengthen. There are a number of players here who may be not starting X1 such as defenders Mike Howard and Dave Artell or midfielders such as Garry Hunter , Paul Lloyd etc or forwards such as Wayne Curtis or Matt Blinkhorn. |

See your point but..... We've taken one player who was released by Bury and another who was released by Darlo and we may take more 'released' players yet. And we're doing all that to try to make us generally stronger as a squad. It's about where you have a lot of strength in depth already and where you might need supplementing a bit. We have offered cash for Craney and have let Accy know which of our players may be available. Coley will have to weigh up what he could do with the cash (and your club has gone on record as saying it's not 'flush' with dosh at the moment) and whether any of our players might enable him to provide more strength in a particular position and give you competition for places. It's also about Craney's own views. A move to us would certainly be a sideways step initially but we would be (I'd imagine, or we wouldn't bother even inquiring) prepared to offer him more money and he 'may' see our current off-field strength and the impending move to a brand new stadium with state of the art training facilities as evidence of better potential for him to progress up this division and further over the next few years. Good luck to you and Johnny Coleman (Football Genius) for next season whatever happens, always enjoy our matches. |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
Sorry (couldn't edit original as the permitted 'time' to do so had expired)
But, as a PS Unless your club has given us permission to talk to Craney personally, I would very much doubt that he's been at Christie Park. I may be being naive but I believe we conduct our business properly (and I understand our officials value a good relationship with yours, despite our rivalries). |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
A nice 6 figure sum,and Carl Baker would suffice.(but where is Morcambe??)
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
A six figure sum plus a player like Craney might get Baker away from us.
And, yes, Morcambe? Must be somewhere near Ackrinton. |

Deal done!........welll nearly!!!!!!! (so I've just heard from club source) |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
Money and blinkhorn wouldnt be a bad deal!!
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
Can't see this happening somehow.
Not from IC's perspective but from those MFC players who would be part of the money plus player(s). There again it depends on being guranteed first team soccer which with 26 contracted players to date will mean that some will be surplus to requirement...which was always going to be the case. Better to play in a first team, wherever, than to play a bit part when circumstances dictate. |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
Craney is also on a long contract and we could be looking to off-load people like him.
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
from the point of view of a) what I believe we are paying him b) the size of a fee likely to needed to get him and c) his form in League 2 for us (although out of position in many games) then I'd offload him straight away. His wages alone would pay two good strikers in and the fee would pay the wage bill for two months.
But Morecambe, Rochdale or Hereford? you're not having him so sod off!!!! On a similar note wh yoh why didn't we get Perkins when he was available and had intimated taht he would come? Stockport apparently have lodged a £150k bid for him. |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????

I thought he had ALREADY signed for Colchester???? |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
Perkins was never Stanley bound. I know that for a fact.
Redskin is right. Perkins has already signed for Colchester. |

Re: Craney to Morcambe????
As i've already said Craney is (when played in the right position) a real handful and has that ability to let fly even when he's given limited space and yes i'd like to see him in a Morecambe shirt but that would also be dependant on who they plan on offering as bait :hidewall:
Twiss in an Accy shirt would be the death of me  |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
its been on Sky Sports all night that Morecambe are in talks with Accy.
.... still the only reportings state that Stanley have turned down all bids for him and Coely does not expect it to happen. Craney is a popular lad in the dressing room and turned down Peterborough who were offering silly money for him (allegedly but entirely believable) so it seems to me that he isn't interested per se in the money, we don't want to lose him, and Morecambe do want to sign him. The ball is in our court and I hope we see a proper deal struck (if it happens), with proper money on the table. i think Ian is a good pro and would be missed at the club, mainly by the playing staff, but if the deal is right for the football club then off he should pop. |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
morecambe dont have proper money to spend, its hardly a step up in my eyes.
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
It's a sideways step initially, that can't be denied. But as I said earlier if he's being offered more money and if he sees us as having more immediate potential for progress then he may take it as moving sideways now to have a better chance of moving upwards in a year or two, he's still only youngish.
And your statement about us not having the money shows you know absolutely nothing about our off-field set-up and our board. Our chairman and at least one of our directors have been involved in very major company takeovers within the last year, the chairman having sold personal shares in Umbro that were worth many, many millions of pounds - and they are all genuine Morecambe fans first and foremost. We're very careful with it and will only do a deal if it's a sensible one - but it IS there. |

Re: Craney to Morcambe????
Absolutely. Look we don't know what goes on in all these negotiations and we don't know what an individual player's 'important considerations' (family 'location' responsibilities, prospects of first team football all season etc) are.
I'm not saying for a moment that he WILL come to us just trying to put forward a view that it's not a totally daft suggestion (from both clubs' - and the player's - angle). Good Luck chaps. |

Swansea paid you £85K for him in installments. Swansea let you have him back for the same amount that they'd paid you to date. So, even if we offered £40K you still have a very healthy profit. |

Re: Craney to Morcambe????
it will be 'a bit' of cash if they do. Id want to keep him because 85,000 wont buy a player like craney. On paper he is in our top 4 players by a country mile.
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
on paper we should have been a good side last season but we were crap so on paper counts for jack s### .
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
I dont rate 3/4 of the squad for this level and didnt last season or the season before i was very very suprised at what the conference squad achieved. craney was played out of position majority of his half season with us. if they were superstars theyd be playing for a top 10 premier team. If i look on it as a premiership team fan there all crap and all the football league. Wed do well to replace craney for 85 grand.
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
I do think that the Clubs stance on this one does appear to be the best one
Eric has said previously that every player has his price, but if a deal is to be done as sad as I would be to see Ian leave, if the money can be utilised to perhaps help bolster the Squad as well as providing something for the Development of the Club off the field that can only be a good thing surely. |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
Observer
Craney is staying JC - i think every player has got a price, but i wouldnt think morecambe would be able to afford the price i would put on craney. EW - it was nowhere near enough, we would never be intersted. hes not going I think unless it gets significantly higher than 85 grand. |

If you remember the first season that we had Craney he couldn't even get in the starting line-up, but the following season he was a revelation!
If he stays with us for next season I sincerely hope that he recaptures his form. He owes us a good season and if he lives up to his true potential, he'll be a hero with us once again. |
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
Stanley are short on 'superstars' but Craney is one of only two that other teams in the League covet, he and Mullin (snr) are well respected players with rival clubs and fans.
.... but as others have said he owes us this year, and if is played right and gets his head down then we will do far better than we have done the last two years. |

Re: Craney to Morcambe????
thats the point I am making Shrimper. Jimbo is a part of the furniture at Morecambe and because of that he would possibly struggle to replicate his form anywhere else - not on a skill or talent level but the extra 10% when it matters etc. We had a similar player in Jonathan Smith (albeit at a lower level). He wasn't short on the passion and it made up for many of his shortcomings, but when he moved on he wasn't the same player.
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
Sorry - I thought you were meaning that Jim didn't play well when Jesus left. Bentley's just a good player. He was good at Telford and he has been from the first day he started with us. I think he'd be a good player at any team and would become 'part of the furniture' anywhere. He is a dedicated professional wherever he's at. He has more to his game than just passion.
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
well lend him to us and we'll be the judge of it!
|
Re: Craney to Morcambe????
I think its a win-win situation. Although Id be sad to see Ian go, if the price was too good to resist then Id cash in. But also, if he stays then that would also be excellent and hopefully well seee many more of his exocets a la Morecambe and Rotherham!!!
