Craney and Grant where the only 2 midfielders who had a good go against Aldershot.

Proctor was the liability.

I really dont understand the Craney bashing, the guy was well above league 2 standard.

Gutted we've lost Craney yet again - suppose contracts mean diddly squat these days but if its a healthy six figure sum, then I cant blame the club or the player....

Yep your right and looks like I'm the first.

Personnally always rated Craney when I have seen him on TV, but what have we bought?

We are crying out for a left sided midfielder/winger, have we got that?

...just very few and very far between.

Polish it up all you want MCR ADIM & DAV007 but you cannot provide any evidence that Craney put any effort into playing for Stanley.
We all agree that he has an immense amount of ability to succeed, but the sheer fact is that he is a lazy player and very rarely showed that class. That is what makes him a liability and that is why many of us are glad to see him go.

On Stanley On - with players that want to play for us. (Hopefully Dons will take Miles next ;):D)

Ian is a top bloke a a great player and i wish him all the best.

What i am upset about is Andy Procters name being dragged through the mud!

A great player who always gives 110%

nobody minded him when he scored VERY important goals Barnet away last min winner.
Macc at home season before last 2-1 down up pops the doctor scores 2 crackers to keep us in the league.
Andy Procter a Stanley Legend!!!!!!

good look Ian John Mullin, Jimmy Ryan and soon Chris Turner are all good enough to fill the space left

nice one AP6 ;)

I dont think anyone was having a go at uhim but drawing a comparison that a ball winning engine type player is not expected to weigh in with goals whereas you might expect a creative player as highly rated as IC to score more often.

Andy Proctor and Ian Craney are two very different types of player and a comparison cannot be drawn other than on workrate. And number six wins hands down on that one

stanley ladies for promotion again

I, as you, have my own opinions on Ian Craney. I have never liked him as a footballer from when he first came to us right up to the present day. The reason for this is I loathe seeing players with acres of ability wasting that talent by just being lazy. I don't doubt the genuine ability Ian possesses but he lacks the consistant effort and application. If you want me to list Ian's possitives i will but they will forever be outweighed for me by his negatives.

And may i ask what the hell any of this has to do with the ladies team? I wouldn't start comparing Craney to any of our girls if I were you, the girls may not possesses anywhere near the quality that Ian is gifted with, but I'll tell you now you'll not find any of them lazy or lacking in effort or determination. So don't even bother to bring the girls into this.

As for Ian bringing in 2 transfer fees, (less the £85000 to bring him back) I honesty thank Ian for that, and moreover Swasea and Huddersfield, for taking him off our hands!!! But I'd have thanked him more if he'd turned in consistant 100% effort performances for us while he's been here.

carpon 19-08-2008 23:31

Re: Craney Off??

Whilst I'm sorry to see Craney leave, numerous positive points seem to outweigh the negative points in this deal.

£200K plus (if the "undisclosed figure / fee is to be believed )towards funding the building work that needs to be completed and no doubt a large wagebill off the payroll for a player who only seemingly had 12 months left on his contract, would seem to be a good bit of business. We have to face facts that we are a Selling club and in this case, unfortanetely the present financial situation at the club and faced with the offer on the table...needs must. And this time Alty don't get a large cut of the pie.:o

Negatives....We've lost a player who had undoubted ability, that some may argue he never properly showed to his true potential. The lad gave us all plenty of good memories and was an INTEGRAL part of our rise back to the football league. I for one thank him for the memories and wish him all the best.:(

After reading the squabbling that this forum seems to have descended into following Craney's sale, one fact remains.

We are now another player light in a considerably depleted squad. No matter which way you look at it, with Grant out injured for what seems to be four to six weeks and the closure of the transfer window looming ever larger, my only hope is, that whatever slice of the available funds can be afforded to Coleman is used to bring in a replacement, possibly two, who can help to strengthen the squad. After all, remember the disastrous run of form we had in our first season back in the league after the sale of Roberts and Craney.

True, we may have a points cushion now, due to three rival clubs facing points penalties due to their own financial problems, but I for one wouldn't want the club to rely on that situation to ensure a fourth season of league football.

As for the squabbling.........division and a lack of unity between supporters only creates negative vibes, which, I for one am sure the players may possibly be able to pick up on.

All in all, division, lack of unity between fans..... Hardly motivation is it ???:o
