Kenny Arthur
Kenny Arthur has this afternoon signed for us, just wondering what your reaction to that is and how you rate him.

Re: Kenny Arthur
too sad to comment .................................................. ....
|
Re: Kenny Arthur
But who do we believe - according to today's Telegraph he has agreed a deal with us in principle, with the only stumbling block being whether his fiancee can get a job when she moves down here - scratch that - it's confirmed on Rochdale's website - not exactly a shock but still gutted!
|
Re: Kenny Arthur
sad to see him go:(
i wish him well though |
Re: Kenny Arthur
HAve a look on dales website he's agreed to sign on 1st july.
GUTTED GUTTED GUTTED GUTTED GUTTED GUTTED GUTTED etc. I won't be changing my sig though!! |

Re: Kenny Arthur
After all the positve feelings on here in the past few days this is just bloody awful news.
Dale have got themselves a gem of a keeper and we have lost a gent of a guy:( Gutted , but wish him all the best and thx for the memories Kenny. |
Re: Kenny Arthur
We're going down.
|
Re: Kenny Arthur
Hmm... thought he could've done better than Rochdale to be honest. Though I suppose he must want to stay in the area.
Not shocked at all about his departure, but it's very sad news. Best Stanley 'keeper ever. All the best, Ken. |

this whole sorry mess just gets worse, can't blame the guy though n can only wish him well, top keeper.:(
|
Re: Kenny Arthur
While it's very, very disappointing, it isn't surprise, is it? I don't think any player that is offered a deal by another club would sign for us at the moment.
Sadly, I think this will be the first a many over the next week or so. |
Re: Kenny Arthur
Kenny’s a class act, gutted to lose him although I’m not surprised under the circumstances. Good Luck Kenny and good hunting……. Who else is going and what next.
Eric get your coat on |
Re: Kenny Arthur
After the week we have had I did,nt think things could get any worse but what do I know!!!anyway good luck Kenny it,s been a pleasure you will always be the king of the Clayton end.

Just gutted really, what else can anybody say. Pity we could not have have a while longer to maybe sort something out, but..... Good luck Kenny, it just will not be the same without "Kenny Arthur's hard as nails .................................
Just wonder how many of the Rochdale team that come to us next season will be ours???? |
Re: Kenny Arthur
We knew it would happen but to Rochdale it is hard to take. There will be more not leaving because Stanleys policy of not signing players up until 1st Aug to avoid paying them for June, July means all the good ones will be snapped up and we get the left-overs, be prepared to lose Edwards and Ryan.
|
Re: Kenny Arthur
Sad sad day, not unexpected I guess though. Will miss him, quality keeper. Replacements? Not a lot around, but that Sam Russell who played for them against us was released a few weeks back and doesn't have a club I don't think. Not as good as Kenny, but probably as good as it gets given the financial constraints.:(
|
Re: Kenny Arthur
well well all i can say is ew out stap killing the club. thats what you get with 1 year contracts what a bing los . still got bovs
|
Re: Kenny Arthur
:( words fail me on this sad day!! I hope the powers that be can have the courage to come on here and tell us why they have let this happen, not happy one bit over this the tax or the betting job. You the club owe it to us the fans to keep our best players don't forget i've already payed like others good money for next years season tickets, and all we get is betrail, not happy one bit...:(:(:(:( on a nother note good look king kenny:) ANY COMMENTS SR

Re: Kenny Arthur
Don't you think that repaying the tax debt and losing these players are related in some way??

Gets me that Cav and Rocky still have contracts through the summer but Kennys ended on the 1st June.

To be fair EW has said publicly that He oblects to paying both Cav and Rocky with what is hanging over them.............however that is besides the point,we should at the very least be able to hang on to our current players, instead of which,we have to watch them walk away, not blaming the player(s), and get nothing out of the bloody deal!..........Very sad state of affairs me thinks :( |
Re: Kenny Arthur
Kenny should have been offered a new contract as soon as he was fit enough after the broken leg, then if someone came in for him we would get a fee, once again poor business.

He joins on 1st of July because thats the offical transfer opening. Also if a player is under 24 then a club is entiltled compensation if he moves clubs due to not being offered a greater or equal deal to the one he is currently contracted to.

Re: Kenny Arthur
Mr T & SR together
King Kenny is an Accy player until the 30th June (as are ALL contracted players, Andy Smith and Colin M) From the 1st of july the MAY sign for other clubs OR accept new deals elsewhere. Thats how contracts work. He could have said he had no club and then had an additional month of pay from Accy and then signed for another club on the 1st August, so in a way he's been very fair to us. Kenny is linking up with his last full time goalkeeping coach (Ian Willcox). As far as I know Kenny is greatful to Accy for giving him a chance in "the big league" and will be living in the local area. He needs total security as his good lady is giving up her job and moving south to live in a "foreign land!" Keep the faith, maybe we can buy him back in January 2010?? (MAB keep in touch, Kenny will be accessable to all good suppoerters) |

Re: Kenny Arthur
Like everyone else, I am very very sad to see Kenny go.
As has been suggested elsewhere, why was the club not negotiating contracts and extensions several months ago? Was it all related to budget issues and the debts to HMRC (and sundry others)? Or is it that the club will continue to function on an ad hoc day-to-day basis in so many crucial areas? Please, please, please .... can we have some semblance of a management structure and systems that befit an ambitious Football League club? |
Re: Kenny Arthur
Always good to hear from your club that there's no security for players :D

Re: Kenny Arthur
in fairness to the club we are always going to struggle to keep hold of better players simply because we will always struggle to compete financially with our fellow League clubs. We can't afford to offer better or longer contracts to anybody really, and in particular this year.
Forgetting the why's and wherefore's of whose fault our predicament is, I am grateful that we have a club and losing players (albeit for free) doesn't bother me at the moment. One way or another we are taking our chances this year and gambling the league status, If this is the case I would be prepared to accept an even greater wage reduction and gamble on trying to secure the best of the crop of the released kids from around the north west. You win nowt with kids? just ask Alan Hansen! |

Re: Kenny Arthur
it wasn't intentionally pessimistic RR, but I think its a realistic view. Until 3 weeks ago we were a solvent club, we had no debts, and only really needed a few hundred extra fans to give us a push for the play offs. We now find out that none of the above is true and that we aren't even really treading water.
However, there are blue skies on the horizon and if just sneak through one more season I think the future could be rosy. That's a bit cheerier! |

Re: Kenny Arthur

The post above is without doubt the most accurate assessment of the situation. All clubs with a small fanbase have to take a reality check. My own club up North (Clyde) for the first time in years opted to give our best players 2 year deals. Due to falling attendances after poor results and lost sponsorship (sound familiar) we fell £150k in debt, on top of the £150k we already owed. That coupled with relegation meant all players who were out of contract were released, and the 12 contracted for next year have ripped up their contracts and walked away in order to save the club going into administration. Instead of long term contracts, we must do a better job of scouting lower leagues each year and take a chance on guys with potential to play at a higher level, and couple that with a couple of loan deals. Much better to have a club than to make commitments that can't be fulfilled. I've read a few posts recently talking about how we should be aiming to be an ambitious League side - surely Stanley already are - their ambition with such a low player budget has to be first and foremost to stay in the league. Anything beyond that is a bonus. |

Re: Kenny Arthur

In my most recent post, I used the words League club, which is more than a League side. Part of the ambition that we must have - and display - is to improve the player budget; indeed to improve all aspects of the club : management, administration, playing. That is what I mean by ambition. If we don't try to improve in all aspects, we will soon stagnate. Let's not forget that we are considered by many to be something of a "Mickey Mouse" team. We must work hard to get rid of that image. We must be seen to be ambitious. |
Re: Kenny Arthur
revived red, whilst i can go with yer sentiments, quite a few have worked very hard to improve stanleys gates n image and they deserve great credit, whilst nowt wrong at all with trying hard- Banging yer head against the wall, springs to mind, with the income/revenue/gates etc i'm more than happy if they can just retain league status, its blindly obvious to me they are punching above their weight.:)

Re: Kenny Arthur
i think that the struggle is to acheive the right balance between ambition and consolidation. Part of our current problems stem from the fact that we rose quickly and the club side of things struggled to keep up. We kind of expected that a League side would automatically attract the extra thousands of spectators, and likewise the sponsorships, the merchandise etc. We didn't work hard enough at giving value for money off the pitch as though we expected the on the pitch efforts to compensate. Unfortunately the magic wore off and the problems became exposed - all of a sudden we were out of our depth without the funds to buy our way out of trouble (off the pitch).
The major obstacle now is that we have to divert funds from the playing staff in order to provide the necessary input to the infrastructure(and the debts), in order to provide the extra funds necessary to improve the squad! catch 22. The win, win answer here is if the whole club, fanbase and indeed the town, can get behind the fighting fund efforts. A huge effort here may give us an extra half million or so pounds that are needed to ramp up the off the field set up. The extra money, more than coupled with the various expertise that can be called upon from the fan pool, should overhaul the club structure and give us the impetus to kick on. Belts have been tightened this year and we have to understand that it may be a struggle to survive, but hopefully this time next year we will have successfully completed the job, the debts will be all but gone and we will be back to being a profitable, successful club that has the community as its heartbeat. I wold urge all to commit themselves fully to the cause this year. Do what you can, when you can and where you can. Don't leave it to someone else to save the club, save it yourself. Accept the on the field failings this season (if they do materialise) and keep on trying where possible to attract a new fan. Buy a shirt and a scarf, help with the various sponsored events that will happen, attend any functions and bring the family. Money is tight, but if there is something you were going to buy anyway, can you buy it from the club? Drink at the clubhoue rather than in town, buy a birthday/christmas gift from the club shop - even if the choice is limited. As Delboy would say - "this time next year we could be millionaires" |
Re: Kenny Arthur
"Mange tous Macca,Mange Tous" :)

Re: Kenny Arthur
Good post Rob:)
Somehow what is being shown now has to be harnessed and taken further step by step, The Club has to become the hub of the community, something to be proud of , something to be part of and something to grow with! The biggest single lesson for everyone has to be clarity that goes for both the Club & Fighting Fund |

Revived - wasn't you I was referring too. And in fact I actually with your sentiments. My own side is effectively I guess a mickey mouse club yet with the smallest budget in the league finished runners up in the league twice in the last 9 years. My post was purely referring to the current situation. The fact that the club is £300k in debt and having to pay back £25k per month means that the ambition (for the present moment at least) is to simply remain in league football. However, a year down the line if Stanley are still a div 2 club and the debt is all gone then, there is no reason why Stanley's ambitions can't change to that of a club aiming for the play-offs. I've seen it happen up here with a far smaller club and it can happen for Stanley too. We finished 2nd purely because our manager had superb contacts and brought real class to a side that effectively had no real budget. (and oh how that riles the so-called 'bigger sides' who harped on about us having no right to even be in the league). The same can be achieved with Stanley if the manager signs players wisely, but in the meatime I just wanna see the club survive in League 2 and see where we go from there. |

Re: Kenny Arthur

I don't think there's any real ill feeling towards Kenny from the club. Now Eric's not around, the papers know to ask Jimmy Bell if they want a quote (on anything) that can easily be taken in a more sensational way! Obviously everyone is sad that we've lost the best 'keeper we've ever had, but a club such as ours could only ever be a stepping stone in his career in English football. The fact that we couldn't dedicate a goalkeeping coach to him for more than a few months shows that. I don't think there'll be anyone that won't give Kenny a good reception on 24th October/20th March, including Coley & Jim. Still could've done better than League 2 residents 'Dale though :D |

He's right in that we should have a GK coach and I'd be surprised if any club would loan us another 'keeper until we had one in place.
That said - I didn't rate him - he's no better than Dunbavin so he's no great loss. Perhaps we should try for another old favourite: Sky Sports | Football | News | Randolph can leave Addicks |

Bad about Jamo leaving a good job to come here, with jb saying he's got a job aslong as they are in management. Than has to leave, i thought martin was a good keeper, hopefully we can get another one in soon but Bav's has been doing well over past few games from the reports on here
