Re: vs Burnley

Final score 2-2.

Good display from the lads, they didn't look near getting past us untiol we were basically playing our reserve team. Kempson was a rock at the back great to have him back. Grant looking good as does McConville.

Unfortunately the game was rather spoiled for myself and those around by a few of the Burnley fans. One left 15 mins early hurling abuse at the linesman, crowd, players and staff. Another 1 minute from time standing up threatening and shouting for a good 5 minutes at an old man for telling him he couldn't light up. The man did nothing in retalliation but this bloke get screaming at him, it took the stewards ages to turn up and when one finally did he just stood there while the bloke carried on with his torrent of abuse. Some more stewards and the police arrived and the bloke sat back down, nothing happened to the bloke for what he did despite his actions being textbook S39 CJA 1988 Assault.

Stanley played well, but then they will against a team that keeps the ball on the deck. I would guess the same will happen on Friday.

Unfortunately most teams in the league will adopt a more direct approach and Stanley have to deal with it.

I hope for you lot that the football wins over the hump ball. If it does I don't think you should have any problems next season.

I thought we looked quite good tonight, if a little light-weight. I know you can't tell much from a friendly, but Coley seems to have done a decent job of putting a squad of players together for the coming season. I know I've said it before, but Luke Joyce looks like a proper footballer and could be another diamond unearthed by the manager.

Now if only we could sign a goalkeeper, we'd be set.

BTW, anyone know where Kee was tonight?

Re: vs Burnley

I can let you all in on a little secret. The linesman on the main stand side was crap. Not sour grapes this, but Burnley's second goal was offside (by a good 2 yards). This was prior to the free kick. The guy was waving for offside when they were not and onside when they were clearly off. If he is premiership standard, then god help Burnley et al. He was yards behind the play of the ball and the last line of defence. I though Bav's had an outstanding game tonight, although he could be held at fault for the free kick, yes there was a deflection, but I thought he was too far over to the Whinney Hill side of the goal to stop anything going in at the near post. Overall, we wuz robbed. We defended exceptionally well against the likes of Jay Rodriguez and the rest of the Burnley attack. But my one wish now is for another goalkeeper to keep Bav's on his toes. And as others have said, why no Kee? I was looking forward to him playing tonight.

If we can play like this against Burnley, then we should have no worries against League 2 opposition. Bring on Big Sam's Rovers

Accrington Stanley FC - Billy will be a Kee signing

Thought we played well tonight and were unlucky not to win like others have said. Would be happy with Dunbavin as a reserve keeper but also agree we need to bring in a new number one. Anyone know of any targets?

Re: vs Burnley

was told tonight kee was oer in ireland milk cup or summat. thought stanley played pretty well n 2-1 would have been a fair result, Burnley i think will do very well in the premier, as the "Parachute" payment when they go back down will be very helpful.:D agree with T.M. n many others they are just a keeper short of a good side.I.M.H.O.

It's a youth competition and he's playing for Northern Ireland.

He played for us against Radcliffe last Saturday and scored a hat trick. See link to Radcliffe game on same website!
Had asked Leicester to release him early so that he could get used to our style of play.;)

I've now seen the comments on this from the 'other' side, and it would appear that the clue is in what you said "Another 1 minute from time ". Apparently the bloke was preparing a roll up ready for the match ending. Should the other bloke have interfered by assuming he was going to light it ? Granted if the level of abuse was over the top then the abuser was out of order, but who is the actual perpatrator of the argument ?

winnard was no 3 ,bit strange a right foot centre back playing left back !

Re: vs Burnley

I thought he played well. If he plays against the league 2 forwards like he did against Eagles last night there won't be many goals coming from his side of the pitch.

Re: vs Burnley

Well done Stanley for recognising what Owen Coyle did last night. He could have taken the prima-donna attitude and sent the kids in :)

Accrington Stanley would like to publicly thank the players and officials of Burnley Football Club for once again sending a full strength side for this regular pre-season friendly, despite only returning from America in the last two days.

Good to see that Gary King, Lewis Field and Ross Lloyd were there last night.

Re: vs Burnley

Got to say, the defence was a revelation last night - seeing them chase down players of the calibre of Jay Rodrigues and others, not giving them time on the ball and I though Sean McConville played really well in tackling back and helping out when necessary. Was a joy to behold.
