Re: vs Wallsall
Billy kee just nearly had his first stanley goal from a flying header after some good work by P Mullin. Sounds like we could be putting up a fight here tonight

What a result well played lads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: vs Wallsall
1041 attendance is less good. we need to string together some more solid home performances. i guess a good cup run could do no harm either.....who's next to the crown?

Re: vs Wallsall
I just noticed that Luton beat Mansfield 4-1 and then I realised that nowadays they're both non-league sides, playing in the league below us. It just shows how far Coley and Jimmy have brought us! :)
|
Re: vs Wallsall
Not nice when you concede a last minuter but bloody sweet when you get one - that makes up for the Don Valley robbery that does.
Bring on the 2nd Round - cant wait to see the goals tomorrow night:) Jimbo T :horn8:blower |
Re: vs Wallsall
Get in there red men!!!!
I think I just woke up anyone sleeping in the new apartments off Eagle st/Ormerod st!!!! I was out walking the dog with the radio on when we scored and I didn't half give it some with my cheer!!! So, sorry to anyone I disturbed!!!! |
Re: vs Wallsall
Great result. Makes a change for us to nick it near the end instead of lose it
|
Re: vs Wallsall
Ooh I'm right chuffed !

In terms of percentage of average league attendances that probably holds up quite well for the 1st round of the League Cup. |

If anybody doesn't know the draw is tomorrow night at 10pm. You will get one of the premier teams not playing in europe or a championship team because it's seeded.

like Burnley for instance. . . . . .

Re: vs Wallsall
please, please, please give us a big draw.
Not being funny or nowt but I don't think that cup draws have ever been particularly kind to us with the possible exception of Notts Forest or Wolves. FA Cup we've always missed out on the biggies. Gotta be Brunley really, or that other local team. Either of em away would do really nicely. Two days booked off work as of tomorrow morning! |
Re: vs Wallsall
way hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! way to go guys...good win :)

Re: vs Wallsall

Personally don't think that would be a great money spinner. Ideally you want somebody like Newcastle with a chance of it being on telly. The media love to see big clubs on the slippery slope in with a chance of being beaten by a lower league club. Newcastle must be the biggest in that category :) |
Re: vs Wallsall
yeah but Burnley .....
we've never beaten 'em and there's always a first time! lol agreed though that Newcastle would be the most lucrative, so Burnley the round after :D |

Re: vs Wallsall
After a deserved sending off of the Walsall captain, Stanley took control. An inspired subbing of King for Grant finally turned the tide. Damp night ,poor attendance but a good result for the Reds.
|
Re: vs Wallsall
Stanley win. Wednesday trounce their opposition and its Stanley's old foe Rochdale. Sheffield United lose at home to Port Vale. What more can I say?:D:D:D:D

Great result tonight, sorry I couldn't be there now, but unfortunately, had the youngest daughter at hospital, turns out she has a kidney infection. To top it all, it was Mrs Oz's 40th birthday as well. Never mind, will be there on Saturday. Well done to the team for tonights performance, now let's kick on in the league and win a few - time to show these upstarts in league 2 who Accrington Stanley really are.

Re: vs Wallsall
We played well again! How good is Grant playing this season! played very good on saturday, played very good tonight, two good goals by grant and mullin, the team played good after going down 1-0 we didnt drop our heads. A very strong side we have. This season is going to be avery good one if we can keep the players for a full season. Hope it continues saturday.
|
Re: vs Wallsall
Got to say, best part of tonight was to hear the Clayton End singing "Someone scored a Goal PAUL MULLIN" :) :) Was a stage a few months ago, I thought that I would never hear that again.... :):):) Great to have footy back at The Crown Ground :)

Great stuff STANLEY
|
Re: vs Wallsall
Well done to the lads last night, missed some of second half (including Bobby's goal) due to being in first aid room with me mum - thanks to the stewards & first aiders last night by the way.
Good to be on the right side of a last minute winner - hope we get a good draw tonight in the next round. |
Re: vs Wallsall
A battling performance last night and the win has got to boost confidence ahead of the weekend. A shame Kee couldn't have converted that first half chance, but you can see that the goals will come sooner, rather than later.

Re: vs Wallsall
good display from the midfield.
jimmy ryan looked very acomplished on the ball as did john miles. paul mullin competed for everything and was unlucky not to get more decisions from the ref. martin was in command of his area. winnard looks a good prospect. King had an off game and his distribution suffered as his confidence dropped, Kempson fitness still does not convince me (he dropped off against rotherham in the 2nd half) and mullin and kee up front at times seemed to similar aka a lack of genuine pace. Is john mullin still injured and just taking up one of the 7 bench places or is he now fit? I rate him as a ball winner and hope he gets a chance on saturday, be good to rotate the team a bit with the ammount of games (sat/tues/sat/tues/sat/tues/sat). Who is the 3rd choice keeper back up if leeds call martin back/he or dunbavin get injured? Where is the loan defender from leeds? |
Re: vs Wallsall
I meant to add - what is with the new stewarding in the clayton end.
confiscating an inflatable beach ball. ridiculous. |

Re: vs Wallsall
Definitely worth the trip north. Just a few of my thoughts, for what they are worth. Starting at the back, I'm surprised that no-one has so far mentioned Alan Martin's distribution which I thought was excellent. He has a powerful and accurate kick, and can also see opportunities to throw the ball out to an unmarked colleague. What was so different was that other players were looking for this, especially Dean Winnard. So we were able to build attacks. I thought Dean had a great game - strong tackler, good distribution, and always willing to overlap. Chris King tackled well, but it was not one of his better games in terms of distribution. Darren Kempson and Phil Edwards were strong at the heart of the defence. It says much for the quality of the defensive work that although Walsall always looked threatening, Alan Martin did not have a real shot to save.
Midfield worked hard, with Proccy covering every blade of grass on the field, Luke Joyce always available to help break up Walsall attacks or build our own attacks, and both John Miles and Jimmy Ryan a constant threat with their strong running. Billy Kee will develop into an excellent striker. He worked very hard indeed and was a real threat in the penalty area. He seemed to take a knock in the first half and was limping after that. As for Paul Mullin, it was certainly one of the best games I've seen him play over the last year or so. The fact that one of the two substitutes scored and the other hit the post with a cracking shot shows that we have some depth in the squad too. Yes, I'm optimistic!:D |

Nice link that Mike, cheers :) One thing that I picked up on and did not notice on the night, was the way that Proccy (And the team) were cool and calm around the referee and did not start to wave around imaginary cards :) Showed some respect to the officials - well done lads...:)
