In terms of percentage of average league attendances that probably holds up quite well for the 1st round of the League Cup.

please, please, please give us a big draw.

Not being funny or nowt but I don't think that cup draws have ever been particularly kind to us with the possible exception of Notts Forest or Wolves. FA Cup we've always missed out on the biggies.

Gotta be Brunley really, or that other local team. Either of em away would do really nicely. Two days booked off work as of tomorrow morning!

Personally don't think that would be a great money spinner. Ideally you want somebody like Newcastle with a chance of it being on telly. The media love to see big clubs on the slippery slope in with a chance of being beaten by a lower league club. Newcastle must be the biggest in that category :)

maccawozzagod 11-08-2009 21:10

Re: vs Wallsall

yeah but Burnley .....

we've never beaten 'em and there's always a first time! lol

Right back position looks sorted now with Winnard a class act, looking more comfortable there than on the left. King worries me a bit on the left as his distribution is very poor. Stunning effort from McConville which rattled the post with almost his first touch after coming on. Didn't seem to have any backlift but it went like a rocket. Some very encouraging individual performances tonight.

Was listening to a bit of the commentary from Dan last night while doing my domestic taxi duties. He said Kee was over-eager at the moment but you would expect that from an 18yr old trying to make an impression.

Some nice comments from the Walsall fans on there forum;

Quote:

Highlights of the night: -

The Crown

The Crown's blonde bar maid.

£4.00 for a cheeseburger and chips in the ground

Stewards who were courtous and left you have a fag out back at half time

£2.00 for a bottle of Bud in the ground.

Abusing Wallet & fellow cronies through the ajar window of the portacabin dressing room upon exiting the ground.

Standing in the pouring rain on a terrace in a good old fashioned crud ground.

Not having to endure extra time and penalties.

DAV007 12-08-2009 22:00

Re: vs Wallsall

good display from the midfield.
jimmy ryan looked very acomplished on the ball as did john miles.
paul mullin competed for everything and was unlucky not to get more decisions from the ref.
martin was in command of his area.
winnard looks a good prospect.

King had an off game and his distribution suffered as his confidence dropped, Kempson fitness still does not convince me (he dropped off against rotherham in the 2nd half) and mullin and kee up front at times seemed to similar aka a lack of genuine pace.

Is john mullin still injured and just taking up one of the 7 bench places or is he now fit? I rate him as a ball winner and hope he gets a chance on saturday, be good to rotate the team a bit with the ammount of games (sat/tues/sat/tues/sat/tues/sat).

Who is the 3rd choice keeper back up if leeds call martin back/he or dunbavin get injured?

Where is the loan defender from leeds?

Re: vs Wallsall

Definitely worth the trip north. Just a few of my thoughts, for what they are worth. Starting at the back, I'm surprised that no-one has so far mentioned Alan Martin's distribution which I thought was excellent. He has a powerful and accurate kick, and can also see opportunities to throw the ball out to an unmarked colleague. What was so different was that other players were looking for this, especially Dean Winnard. So we were able to build attacks. I thought Dean had a great game - strong tackler, good distribution, and always willing to overlap. Chris King tackled well, but it was not one of his better games in terms of distribution. Darren Kempson and Phil Edwards were strong at the heart of the defence. It says much for the quality of the defensive work that although Walsall always looked threatening, Alan Martin did not have a real shot to save.

Midfield worked hard, with Proccy covering every blade of grass on the field, Luke Joyce always available to help break up Walsall attacks or build our own attacks, and both John Miles and Jimmy Ryan a constant threat with their strong running. Billy Kee will develop into an excellent striker. He worked very hard indeed and was a real threat in the penalty area. He seemed to take a knock in the first half and was limping after that. As for Paul Mullin, it was certainly one of the best games I've seen him play over the last year or so.

The fact that one of the two substitutes scored and the other hit the post with a cracking shot shows that we have some depth in the squad too.

Yes, I'm optimistic!:D

Nice link that Mike, cheers :) One thing that I picked up on and did not notice on the night, was the way that Proccy (And the team) were cool and calm around the referee and did not start to wave around imaginary cards :) Showed some respect to the officials - well done lads...:)

Thought it was Matty McNeill at the end.

Did Mullers have a problem with his ear?
