And secondly the dog that was found which we suspect was shot in the head - they think this is too much of a conincidence for two injured animals on the same stretch of road. They are both at the vets in Clitheroe on drips - we took them to RSPCA centre. I can't believe somebody would hit a cat and drive off, and to shoot a dog is sick. I will call Clitheroe later to see how they are both doing. If anyone knows anything or who these animals belong to please get in touch. Neither animals was chipped. Thanks xx

Update to this:
Both are in a bad way and still haven't been claimed, the cat might not make it
1st thought on the dog was that it had been shot has it had a perfect circular deep wound to the front of its head and losing a lot of blood, as actually been run over and possibly dragged under the car and something hit it in the forehead.
How can anyone do this and drive on  if you say you can then please let me know if I ever run over you, I'll do the same!
when I hear anything I will let you all know, sure Liz will too.

I just did whatever I thought anybody with any ounce of decency would do - and that would be take any injured animal for help. I still can't believe that someone would drive off and leave a pet lying for dead on the side of the road. And as for two injured animals that is just something totally unreal.

Real thanks goes to Jase and the kids for stopping and going through their phone book ringing everyone and anyone at stupid am to see who would answer their phone. Just glad I didn't have my phone on silent this morning, unlike Lucy!!!

Hope they are both going to be ok. Will let you know tomorrow xx

thank you very much to everybody who joined in the 'fun'

it became more difficult than it needed to be due to the near monsoon conditions (well not quite but it was wet) and now my phone wont work. 67 people were on the walk which was very creditable given the conditions and how the SOS capaign has ended up.

Thanks to KSH for doing the sponsor forms
Thanks to Danny for doing the support car
Thanks to ASDA for supplying the water and bananas
Thanks to The Brown Cow for lunch and sambuca
Thanks to 2BR for offering a radio interview that i couldnt do as my phone drowned whilst on the moors
Thanks for nothing to the weather gods.

So chaps and chappessess lets have your money in please.

Cat and Dog update:
The dog is doing well, it couldn't stand on Saturday but it is now and could well be transferred to the RSPCA at Altham some time today.
The cat is in a bad way, hasn't moved its legs since Saturday, they are going to do an X-ray today and see exactly what the damage is - doesn't look good though.
Neither have been claimed, I was up that way today asking round but no joy

Bit harsh that Katei - everyone who did that walk in those atrocious conditions deserves praise, no matter how far they got, I'm sure no-one wanted to drop out before the end and anyone who had to had done their very best.

It will probably take weeks to get an idea and will probably take even longer to actually get it all in, if Loweiys experience last time is anything to go by.

I would imagine that most initial money will be handed in next home game which would have given people a fortnight to make a start. Initial forecasts would be that around £100 is an average made, although some people have made much more than that which should bring the average up.

First target was to beat the £5k made last time and £10k was the hoped for sum. Around £200 in so far ...

If the unthinkable does happen tomorrow, could the monies that are collected be given to Coley instead of O'Neill? That way, we can at least get some of the funds to Coley, Jimmy and the players as a means of saying thank you for the memories. They will lose more than anyone if there is no club after tomorrow.

MCR ADIM 27-10-2009 19:50

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk

Think along the same lines mate think we should give all the money to coley to be shared oiut between him JB and the players. If we do go we are losing out on alot, Symes turning into a good player for us, Bobby grant is really coming though as a good up and coming player can go onto higher level and will, Turner not had much chance this season but has performed ever game, the back for specialy edwards, they are all working together now, winnard and kempo, jimmy ryan quality player. JC AND JB as much passion for the club as the fans, work hard get the players in the right frame of mind specially in these 8 weeks to win games and play realy good football. What the players and the management must be thinking as they proberly know, sleepless nights just like the rest of us.

K.S.H 27-10-2009 19:53

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk

Well I wont be collecting any more money until I can tell people what its being used for, they will have the choice then if they want to pay up or not, any thats already paid will be asked if they want it back if its not going to the original cause that they sponsored me for

Cat and Dog update:
The cat didn't make it, had too many injuries and they had to put it to sleep.

The dog is still at the vets but will be going to the RSPCA tomorrow.

Please do all you can to secure sponsorship and let's try to get to £10,000. All we can do now is do our best and let the suits do what they can (because god knows they've feck all else).

If everything goes tits up and we find ourselves without a club this is money that we will use to kick start A.F.C.A.S. or whatever comes next.

I WILL PUT THE FUNDS THROUGH THE SUPPORTERS CLUB BANK ACCOUNT

and if anybody else has any monies they want to pay in for anything at all please feel free to utilise this option

Dog update:
I was passing the RSPCA today so I called in to see how the dog is doing.
They have named him Chance, he's doing really well, wound on his head as almost healed but he still has stitches in, his swollen eye has gone down but is still a little red and it irritates him a little, he has no other injuries.
He's very lively and friendly, all the staff up there love him.
Shame no-one has claimed him, they said it will be 28 days before the consider re-homing him, I'm not sure if that's 28 days from when they got him or from when he was taken to the vets.
I was going to take a photo of him but they wouldn't allow it.

What the hell is going on - why the secrecy?

maccawozzagod 07-12-2009 17:00

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk

sorry Redraine, no secrecy intended! I didn't have the exact figures to hand and hadn't spoken to the people concerned (and still haven't) so I didn't want to post up just yet.

But what the hey!

Prizes will be given for money handed in up to the end of November, so thank you very much to everyone who has done just so.

1st prize of a signed Stanley shirt does indeed go the Rochdale fan who walked with us. Alistair Dowber raised a fantastic amount of £353 towards saving the future of a rival club. FANtastic effort Alistair.

2nd prize is for a signed photograph of a player of Janice Guilfoyles choice. Janice raised £263 which was another FANtastic amount.

I'd also like to thank Bob Eddleston and Danica Ashton who both raised over £200. In fact Danica was only £8 short of 2nd prize, so unlucky there.

But the biggest thanks of all goes to everybody who raised an amount of money, big or small. Hopefully it can all go a long way and help to cement the future of Accrington Stanley.

so far we have raised £2620 pounds (less £295 for the coaches and £36 towards the water bottles) but only 19 people have so far handed their money in, so this figure will hopefully double at least.

Finally I'd like to say a big thanks to KSH. Ken raised around £600 on his own but was reluctant to accept a prize as he was the one who had organised the prizes!! (I know how you feel Ken!) so its only right that he at least gets some sort of thanks. Please send your Karma his way.

Once the money has all come in I will sit down with Dave O'Neil and work out some way of using the money. Dave is fine with this and understands the full reasoning why it didn't (or couldn't) go directly into the SOS fund.

There will also be the wristbnand money to add to this amount. That currently stands at about £1400.
