Rochdale Sponsored Walk
This year Stanley fans will once again take to the streets in aid of a good cause. Last year the Ultras raised a FANtastic amount of money to build a new school in Nepal and to aid the Accy Pals appeal. This year the cause is a lot closer to home and we are trying to ensure that we still have a club to support.
Can we beat the £5k raised by SU last year? Can we get more than 60 people to do the walk? The venue is the same, Rochdale, and will take place on the 24th October. The walk is around 17 miles and took around 4 hours last year. Assistance will be provided if anyone is struggling during the walk and needs collecting via car. Water will be provided en route I would hope that a large representation of each 'group' will be made on the walk. Groups that I hope are present will be ASFC staff, youth team, non playing 1st team OSC ASSF SU Stanley Ladies? Local politicians Local media (Dan, Ben, Suzanne, Dany, get your boots laced up - you'll be there in time to set up) I'll set to work on trying to ensure we have transport back Please volunteer your services and bring a mate. Or sponsor others. The buckets will be out as well. Sponsorship forms will be available for the Darlo match |
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
Did you go Accrington, Baxenden, Haslingden, Ewood bridge, Edenfield, over “Owd Bets”, Norden, Rochdale last time?

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
I bit of incentive to get people out and raise money there is now a signed shirt for the person who raises the most, been kindly donated by the club

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
Jack Barratt will be walking a short distance at the beginning and end (health allowing) of this walk.
For those that don't know, he walked from Accrington to Liverpool in aid of reforming the club back in 68. It will be fantastic for the record books that the man who did so much to bring the club back to life will still be doing his bit to save the club over 50 years later. A good few sponsorship forms were handed out last night, any of you planning to join in can get the forms from me at work (Lancashire Hardware on King St) or can collect them from me (or someone helping me hopefully) at the Darlo match next week. I am in the middle of blagging all our friendly media folks to join in with the walk and Dan and Dany (2br and accy observer) have already agreed to do it. And I am reliably informed that Coley is planning to join in. The Don said last night that he will manning the front line with us as well |
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
when is it? if i can do it could you post or email a sponsorship form....

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
It would be nice to honour and pay tribute to Jack Barrett by re walking the original route on mass. Next year will be 42 since Jack’s contribution to Accrington Stanley’s History. Next year I should be free of working seven day weeks and should be still in reasonable health at 51……any body fancy it?

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
I wont be able to do the walk due to back problems, but me and Lucy Loo will provide water and beer for the walkers like we did last year - and if we dress up a bit :o) could also do bucket collections at each stop off.

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
Coley said he would defo do the walk if we can get a couple of local firms to sponsor him any ideas?

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
I need a good sponsor too :)
I've been thinking about this all day and finally made the decision- IF I get a good sponsor I'm going to walk it back from Rochdale  It will be a long lonely walk, in the dark and probably raining, I'm NOT going to do it for the sake of a few quid, it will have to be a substantial amount, ie match or even double what I raise by doing the walk one way, I'm going to ask at the place I work and see what they have to say, if anyone knows of a firm that might be interested in sponsoring me feel free to contact me. |

If you will I will, the few people I've spoke to so far want to sponser me per mile, being clever sods pledging 50p a mile or so. Be a shock them havin to pay double.:D:D:D:D:D Loads of time yet though:rolleyes: |
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
okay folks, this is probably the biggest fan initiative fund raiser we have left.
There are currently around 80 people pledged to do the walk and I am still hoping for more. It could be our last chance to publicly demonstrate our love for Stanley, or it could be our opportunity to publicly celebrate defeating this first hurdle in our quest for debt free Stanley. Please do all you can to secure sponsorship and let's try to get to £10,000. All we can do now is do our best and let the suits do what they can (because god knows they've feck all else). If everything goes tits up and we find ourselves without a club this is money that we will use to kick start A.F.C.A.S. or whatever comes next. I WILL PUT THE FUNDS THROUGH THE SUPPORTERS CLUB BANK ACCOUNT and if anybody else has any monies they want to pay in for anything at all please feel free to utilise this option |
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
I WILL PUT THE FUNDS THROUGH THE SUPPORTERS CLUB BANK ACCOUNT
and if anybody else has any monies they want to pay in for anything at all please feel free to utilise this option does this mean any money for the sos fund should now be paid to the supporters club?not sos fund? sorry but im little confused |
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
just to clarify the point regarding the bank account. The Rochdale walk is only hours before the HMRC can wind us up. Should this be the case then funds will need to be made available to rebuild whats left.
The money will be available to the SOS fund should we survive and a running total will be published as we go. Self preservation? |

Good plan with the donations going into the OSC funds, I didn't want it to be wasted... I need to get round to getting people to sponsor me
|
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
alright for forms at the moment Ken
Just as aside, and for everyone else, if you spot anybody with dodgy looking forms and you are not sure about the person, could you please let me know and I can try to get to the bottom of it. An eagle eyed forum member has already collared one possible conman. Same goes for any collection anywhere, if it looks possibly dodgy beware of it - there will be people trying to profit on the back of our fundraising. |

just want 2 know how i can get on the walk, where do we start, where do we finish, what time do we leave.what should i bring with me.

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
set off time is indeed 7am - just like last time.
The earliest folk last time out were in the pub for around 11:30am with the last ones arriving no later than 12:30pm. A decent 1 1/2 hours in the pub before walking the last mile to the ground. Transport back will be provided. JT is talking to Rigby's about FOC coaches for the walkers, but failing that I think OSC would probably sort it. Forgot to put it on the agenda last night but I will ring around to ensure it happens. Still hoping for a reply from Rochdale ref discounted admission .... |
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
I'm glad it's a 7am start. It'll give me time to actually get there before the kick-off...............lol
|
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
One and a half hours in the pub is no good to me - any more than one pint and I will miss half the match with having constant visits to the loo. I'm setting off at 9.00am. Which pub will you all be in? Is it in Norden?
|
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
I forget the name of it but its the one just a couple of miles past the Nutters restaurant. you go down the dip and as you come out onto the straight it is on your left hand side. Theres a good butty shop across the road

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
I drove the route the other night. It is exactly 13.6 miles to the pub and exactly 15 miles to Spottyland. The half way point is the motorway flyover in the dip at Edenfield.
The Brown Cow has been confirmed for arrivals from around 11:30 onwards and are expecting between 80-100 people. I have names for 68 people + however many of The Ultras are doing it. 2 buses have been booked with one more on standby just in case anybody has ignored my appeals to get their names down. The buses will be free to all walkers. There may be space left on a bus if anybody has made their own way there but needs a lift back. Price will be £5 and will go into the appeal fund on my sponsorship sheet (not counted towards any prizes though!) I am still trying to sort out water for the walkers and its 50/50 whether I can get it or not - so if anybody knows any really nice superstore owners who are willing to sponsor us to the tune of around 300/400 small bottles of water we'll try to be nice regards advertising!!! The walk will set off from the club shop at around 7am - depending how long it takes to get every name down. thanks you all for your participation - whether it is walking or sponsoring somebody and lets just hope that the club are true to their word and we are not walking to our last ever Stanley match. In the rain. |
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
You tried Asda Macca? . Sure they did it last year!

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
yep, waiting on a phone call

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
Macca
I'll sponsor everyone who makes it to the tune of £1 per person. Let me know the damage on Sunday. Of course I trust your counting .... :D |

Rob, I don't suppose we will have the luxuryof a "baggage bus" to take a spare set of clothing to the finish? |
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
i have to confirm yet that we have the support car going but it will probably be able to carry spare clothers for people - especially considering the likelihood of bad weather at some point
If you still want to set off later it is fine as you had already told me, so you'll be logged anyway :D |

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
Hi Accy. Dale fan here. Good luck with your sponsored walk. Hope its a success. There is plenty of sympathy amongst Dale fans for your plight. Have the Ultra's asked Dale for permission to do a bucket collection at the ground on Saturday. I am sure people would support it.
Best of luck - apart from the result of course. |

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
Are we collecting cash on the way or at the ground??
|
Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
there's nowt to stop anybody collecting who wants to but there is nothing in place to collect at the gorund itself. If anybody wants to organise an impromptu collection then please give Rochdale a call and get there permission first. I am sure that there will be plenty of helpers to man the buckets.

Re: Rochdale Sponsored Walk
Got a call from Jase first thing this morning about the kitten hit by a car with two broken legs - if anyone else witnessed this or has any information can you please get in touch as the police want a description of events and the car. And secondly the dog that was found which we suspect was shot in the head - they think this is too much of a conincidence for two injured animals on the same stretch of road. They are both at the vets in Clitheroe on drips - we took them to RSPCA centre. I can't believe somebody would hit a cat and drive off, and to shoot a dog is sick. I will call Clitheroe later to see how they are both doing. If anyone knows anything or who these animals belong to please get in touch. Neither animals was chipped. Thanks xx
