It's going to go right down to the wire, isn't it?

Southend Utd are still on that list but we know from elsewhere they have already been given a reprieve.

Not a good day for Accrington in general, Stockley Sweets also on that list :(

This mon doesn't

Quote:

Andrew Stephenson, senior tax investigation manager at Blackburn-based Pierce Chartered Accountants, said HMRC was ‘usually successful’ in obtaining a winding up order from this point if the tax bill had not been repaid.
He said: “By the time of a high court ruling such as Stanley's, the company is drinking in the last chance sal-oon because any deal with HMRC would have been struck out of court already.
“I would have thought that any winding up order by the court would be effective immediately and in this case, that would be the end of the road for the club in its present guise.

if a week is all they are asking then I would have thought it a possibility.

The courts view may be that you have had 8 weeks (to sort out the recapitalisation?) to sort your affairs and that is plenty of time.

The other side of the coin of course is that each time we have to send a legal team down there it is costing us more and more money.

So in reality tomorrow it could go either way! Couldnt they just take the money stanley have transfered and then close the club down? or they could just give them a few days! But the question is, why a few more days? How much is their left to pay for gods sake!!!.

Dan "you say you are a little bit short, how much is a little bit?"

Rob "well, erm, err, erm , err - we don't know exactly"

Dan "how confident are you that this isn't the end"

Rob "fairly, blah blah blah - but we've won a lot of friends by seeking to pay off the full amount rather than going down the percentage route"

excuse me? we weren't given the option of going down the percentage route! we were told to pay it all and we haven't. How many friends have we won and how many have we lost and how many have we found that we thought were friends and now we know they aren't really friends at all?

Vote of no confidence from me I'm afraid.

And I wonder if the Directors really raised and paid their promised £100K to £150K SM.?
They seemed to think that this money would make up more than any shortfall which might occur.....another blind alley ???.

Club statement
Accrington Stanley will send a representative to the scheduled High Court hearing tomorrow morning to request a very short further adjournment in order to bring in the full £308,000 owed to HMR&C.

The club had hoped to be able to draw a line under the situation today however due to delays on a couple of sources of funding we will require a further week or so to do this.

After taking advice from our legal team we are more than confident that this will not be a problem and look forward to announcing the settlement of the debt in full in the next few days.

I am stunned. Don't know why when all we've seen so far has been incompetence and attempts at a cover up but I still thought that somehow the bill would be paid. Whatever happens now, if by chance we do get the extension and the money gets paid off, it's time for Mr. O'Neill to go.

Doug 27-10-2009 16:48

Re: "red letter day ??"

Deeply disappointed and absolutely drained of belief that they are going to try for an adjournment. I don’t see it happening I’m afraid, I think we will be wound up tomorrow.

Had this been the first or the second time I could accept the Judge would be likely to feel benevolent, but it isn’t, if this comes off I would be utterly surprised, many those companies before the court tomorrow will go out of business; I don’t see how Stanley can believe that they will be allow more time.

However, if the club does get a week’s adjournment I certainly would ask the both Mr. O’Neil and perhaps the Board consider their futures and get what’s left of the club up for sale. Mr. O’Neil failed the club by not ensuring that funds were readily available and I believe he should stand down as Chairman along with Ms, Lazarus.

I am deeply hurt by this turn of events having accepted the conviction of Mr. O’Neil and his word that this would end today.

This is an embarrassment and a disgrace, and for the directors too let this happen again is criminal.

Totally predictable!

Yesterday it was all over bar the shouting. Today we need more time.

Given the track record of those running the club, who would believe a word they say? Lies (the 12 month agreement to pay-up) and half-truths from start to finish.

If we get Lord Chief Justice Gullible on the Bench tomorrow we might just avoid the winding-up order but don't hold your breath.

Re: "red letter day ??"

Statement mentions they want " a week or so" ???

Judges response to this appeal for extra time probably will read along the lines of "you've had eight !!!"

Whilst it may not make financial sense in the long term for H.M.R.C. to pull the plug tomorrow ( as in future tax revenue lost ) If every business in a similiar situation went in front of him with the same excuse, then H.M.R.C. would probably have a long, long queue of people ready to peddle the same excuses......

Was O'Neil not asked to point out on Sept 17th certain legal finer points by H.M.R.C. stating that "A.S.F.C." were being used as an example by others in trouble with the taxman for "requests for extra time to pay"???

To go back and seek another adjournement for extra time, smacks to me of a final desperate act, which will (in my view) will be rebuked by the judge who will probably bang the final nail home and resign the club to history once more.

The legal chap quoted in the L.E.T. stated that Stanley were technically " drinking in the last chance saloon"..Looks like H.M.R.C. are about to call time tomorrow......

The closing line in the article reads..." Of course, you cannot rule out something being salvaged but that would need substantial backing "

I think we all know that that particular boat sailed some time ago.:(

Out of order Doug, this is the sort of remark that O'Neil is likely to come out with..............In respect of Ilyas Khans withdrawl, He was insulted, ignored and villified by O'Neil very publicly, I for one dont blame Him at all.............there is only so much a Man can take before saying enough is enough.

It is time for O'Neil to go, along with the board members who stated that they would rather see the club fold than accept Ilyas's and the ASSF's offer.

And before the word 'unconditional' comes out again, ask yourselves who in thier right mind would 'give' £250,000 to a failing business with NO conditions attached.............Answers on a postcard please.

Red Letter Day............more like Red Rag to a Bull S..T Day:mad:

I suppose the fat lady has not quite sung yet, maybe UK had some inkling of an idea with his meeting at the ground?

Maybe a Candlelit Vigil..... with some Stanley Songs (to lift the spirits) It may just get us some positive Google Page Ranking from the Press before tomorrow??

But I accept your feelings.

Seriously Doug, if yours or our business went bust tomorrow who would we blame. The customers or lack of them ? People offering to lend us money and then changing their minds ? They may be reasons but they are not the blame factor.

A quick look at the cases scheduled for tomorrow morning shows that ASFC Ltd appears in a batch of 71 companies all to be wound up or otherwise between 10.30 and 11.00.

So, on average, our barrister will have just over 23 seconds to persuade Mr. Registrar Simmonds of the merits of another adjournment.

I don't wish to be a 'cynical geriatric', but it doesn't look briiliant.

However, while there's life there's hope; and if a lot of the other cases are undefended we might get a decent hearing . . .

Short answer would be me.

Believe me Dave I won’t look good in Tangerine and I pray that we get through this long enough for the current incumbents to resign and for the club to be sold to someone that can afford it. But I am full of doubt.

There was no offence taken now or any other time. Stick you pint were the sun don’t shine cowboy…..I won’t settle for less than a crate….:D:D:D

My feelings toward the Khan/ASSF offer was one of discomfort and a belief that it was unworkable as well as unacceptable to the owners of the club, my thoughts haven’t changed and views have been exchanged between me and Mr. Khan.

But I implore him to step in now and save the face of Accrington and our club and I’ll do that on my knees if he wants.

As any 'Letters', Proclamations, Declamations, Half-Truths, Untruths, or Damned Lies, which are likely to emanate from those who were always the intended targets of this thread...are at the very best going to be a poor, ill-defined and sickly shade of Light Puce.....can I politely suggest that my thread has now run it's course, and should therefore be allowed to die a dignified death!.

Even a positive response from HMRC tomorrow will probably only carry a slight tint of Pale -Pink around it's edges !...If That !!.

My enthusiasm...and that of my dear old 'alter-ego' who still says 'What me Worry' is definately on the wane tonight...but we shall return !!

'ON STANLEY !!...ON!!,,,TO GREATER THINGS !!

ps...Spare a thought tonight for John Coleman and our great Team...who must be feeling really dismayed and down !!

Already doing it mate, not only could we lose a very good management team and squad but they have all got bills to pay like the rest of us, families to provied for etc.

Just hope someone from the club can tell jack barret exactly what happened and why they let it do it for a 2nd time.

UNDER pressure chairman Dave O'Neill has told Accrington Stanley’s fans to leave the sleepless nights to him as D-Day for the cash-strapped club approaches.
Stanley must repay £308,000 to the taxman on Wednesday to avoid being wound up – and O’Neill is confident the bill will be paid tomorrow.
Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, O’Neill declared: “Yes we are going to beat it, of course we are going to make it.
“On a scale of one to 10, we are a nine now. We have one or two things coming in on Monday but at this stage we are happy with it (the state of fundraising).”
But O’Neill admits that it hasn’t been all plain sailing and added: “We had a bit of a let down on Friday. “I can’t mention names, but a guy promised us £25,000 and let us down, so we are a little bit short at the minute.
“But we have one or two things to come through on Monday. Ilyas Khan is not involved.”
When asked the timescale of the payback and whether O’Neill would be in the High Court on Wednesday, he said: “I don’t want to go (to London). All the bank transfer will be done on Tuesday.
“A few fans have said they are not sleeping. Let me do the not sleeping.”

Ilyas Khan is not involved is he ???? The DON had better let him be involved later today............

Let me do the not sleeping ??????????? it is 1:15am and I and by the looks of it lots of other fans are not sleeping tonight thanks you LIAR...

Well, O'Neill didn't do much "not sleeping" for me last night. In fact, I did it all myself and am now sitting here drinking black coffees before I set off for work. Another broken promise. Hoping against hope we'll still have a football club at the end of today, but even if we do, this lot have to go.

When the money finally comes from the Football League and is paid over to the taxman, O'Neill and Heys will probably pretend that they have donated the money. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OUR CO-CHAIRPERSON
