"red letter day ??"

"We know the clock is ticking and it’s less than two weeks until our court date so we need to do something quickly to show that Accrington Stanley will survive and has a bright future." quoth our beleaguered yet esteemed CEO !.

So...will we, along with the Agents of HRMC, be kept in suspense for a while yet?...or will TODAY be THE Day.......when THEY receive their dues...and WE receive the News about this act which will make it 'The Red-Letter Day' for which ALL Stanley Fans crave ??...What do YOU think ??.

(And it really would be a Red letter Day if one were to notice some upwards movement on the Fundometer !!).

'ON STANLEY!!....ON!!...TO GREATER THINGS !!'

Now’t will happen until they email over the totals to the discerning and dependable Mrs. AccyRed. I don’t see anything happening before early evening really, however, wouldn’t it be fantastic if the club did something that would prove us wrong..

This is what the Sporting Life quoted Rob as saying:

"We are hoping to make an announcement in the next 48 hours. People deserve to be reassured that everything is going to be okay."

As that was last Wednesday, I would expect a big announcement anytime soon to make up for lost time!

I fear you may well be right, but if there is a statement issued AFTER the hearing, then I expect it to be from HMRC and not DON and co.

The fact that DON refused to comment in this weeks paper re the current state of affairs, speaks volumes to me.............after all He has been at pains to tell us that He 'wont let Accrington Stanley fold again' often enough :mad::mad::mad::mad:

carpon 24-10-2009 00:24

Re: "red letter day ??"

The longer this "wall of silence" seems to be deployed by the club, the more frustrated and worried we as fans get. A simple statement to allay the fears of many, stating that the wolf at the door (i.e H.M.R.C..)has been sent on his merry way would more than galvanise the faithful to continue the hard work that is needed to move the club forward.:o

I've just nurtured ( nay press ganged, if to be properly correct) my 11 year old niece into following the Stanley. After the Shrewsbury game on Tuesday (and sitting in the main stand and after encouraging her along to several home games this season) she declared ......" next home game, I want to go on that end (Clayton End) where all the singing's at!! " Despite the awful, despairing and sickening feeling that has become to be an awful reminder of our current predicament, I could not have the heart to tell her that this was possibly the last time that we might enjoy her new found pleasure. I can't lecture the girl about '62, I was but a twinkle in my late father's eye then.:o

The only positive hope that I cling to as I sit here writing this whilst consuming a glass or three of Theakston's Old Pec, is that all will be revealed, in what probably will be the last hours before the deadline, that this particular threat of wiping out our beloved club has been revoked and the debt has been paid.

The only reasoning I have for this ( what I hope IS NOT ) ill founded optimism, Is the reasoning behind spurning Mr Khan's generous offer. Whatever the present board's reasons or agenda for turning his offer down, I only have ( maybe blindly) faith that the present Chairman/ co chair person, board, etc, etc, etc, have confidence in meeting the demands that have to be met on Wednesday.:o

If they do not, then these people, who I and we all trust with the running of our beloved ship Stanley, have all the foresight and attitude of the crew of the Titanic. As in, this iceberg can't sink us and keep the band / orchestra playing to avoid a panic.:(

I only hope the recent press releases by those concerned do not echo the aforementioned musicians of the Titanic, Lightening in our case does not strike twice and the big bad wolf is sent on his way.

Otherwise ,I have a lot of explaining to do to an 11 year old girl who I imagine will be quite upset if the brown stuff hits the fan on Wednesday.

I aim to e-mail the club with my own personal concerns immenently,( as somebody else on another thread has) however I don't expect (as I believe that person has not) honest and forthright answers. They could save me, and all fans the trouble, sleepless nights, worry, etc, etc, etc, IF THEY release a definative statement.......and in the next day or two, before the deadline......

Either...

A) The debt has been paid (and also reveal concrete plans of how the club moves on from this episode):)

or, and I hope this is not the case...

B) The present Board, despite all best efforts cannot satisfy this debt, and seek help. ( and by help, I mean hold olive branches or whatever it takes to get Mr. Khan back onside)

I hope option B) is not necessary.....

Less than 100 hours to "save our Stanley".

High time for our present board et all to stand up and be counted.

Don’t worry Mab; I’ve been getting **** loads all week. Some people will never give anyone or anything positive credit. We all have opinions and we should never be put off expressing them… I put smiles all across my last post on this thread, it was always meant in humour but some sad arse had to ask “What do you know” with a dose of negative…..Well if he/she wants an answer; “obviously a lot more than you” :)

Re: "red letter day ??"

Sitting in the pub in Norden after the sponsored walk I approached David O'Neill, who to his credit had joined us for the last leg. He was exuding confidence the whole time I was speaking to him. I said that many of we supporters were going crazy for some reassurance re. the tax bill, and asked him if he could oblige. He said, that on a scale of one to ten we were on a nine. I then said he must therefore have an "arrangement" with HMRC. to which he replied with a nod. I cannot believe, after looking me straight in the eye, that he will not deliver the goods next Wednesday. What happens subsequently is another matter.
As I had imbibed a few pints by then, and the pub was very crowded, I didn't pursue matters any further, but thought I would post on here with my findings!

Nice to meet you today Redraine.

I too was told the same story by Mr O'Neil and I didn't know what to make of it. To be 90% sure of saving the club at this late stage didn't fill me with confidence, but hopefully it'll all come good in the end.

Existing 'Track Records' at 'The Crown' suggest that this would be a most unlikely occurrence indeed Dave!..
and so if this wasn't the chosen channel to disseminate 'a statement of such magnitude', does it mean that 'Doubting Thomases' like yours truly, must still continue to treat any reported rumour with some suspicion ?.

To be honest it's not rocket science to figure out they will have to contact HMRC with a view to paying 100% of the tax bill, the taxman isn't going to give a discount is he ? :D

Re: "red letter day ??"

Article now online;

UNDER pressure chairman Dave O'Neill has told Accrington Stanley’s fans to leave the sleepless nights to him as D-Day for the cash-strapped club approaches.
Stanley must repay £308,000 to the taxman on Wednesday to avoid being wound up – and O’Neill is confident the bill will be paid tomorrow.
Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, O’Neill declared: “Yes we are going to beat it, of course we are going to make it.
“On a scale of one to 10, we are a nine now. We have one or two things coming in on Monday but at this stage we are happy with it (the state of fundraising).”
But O’Neill admits that it hasn’t been all plain sailing and added: “We had a bit of a let down on Friday. “I can’t mention names, but a guy promised us £25,000 and let us down, so we are a little bit short at the minute.
“But we have one or two things to come through on Monday. Ilyas Khan is not involved.”
When asked the timescale of the payback and whether O’Neill would be in the High Court on Wednesday, he said: “I don’t want to go (to London). All the bank transfer will be done on Tuesday.
“A few fans have said they are not sleeping. Let me do the not sleeping.”

Re: "red letter day ??"

Club bosses at Accrington Stanley say they hope to have their tax debt in full by the end of the day.

That's despite being let down by some supporters offering the club loans to help pay its three hundred and eight thousand pound bill.

The club had planned to settle the amount by using cash from their Save our Stanley fund, investment by the club's directors and small loans.

107 The Bee: Stanley set to pay back debt

they now hope to have their tax debt in full by the end of the day,not will have all bank transfers done by today as stated before

they have be let down by some supporters offering loans not 1 loan of £25,000 as stated before

hmmmmmm

They could have worded it better, but we don't know who worded it, the club or the BEE ? Lets hope it's the latter, whilst it may not be detrimental to the 'normal' fan, the club needs those big guns with money for support in the future, ie sponsorship etc.

Its now much more than that for the long time die hard supporters now. I know what its like to grace a field where once it was great with only pictures to capture a memory that i wished i was a part of. Then i became part of a new version, pheonix from the ashes. Did the asfc history of the last demise but never would of thought history would repeat again, now i feel the true sense of what it was like in 62, hopin for a miracle that its not final but just a serious reminder i hope.

It is the opinion of many that THE BEE...

1) Uses information from inadequate sources as material for it's proclamations.

and 2) That it usually presents these in a sensation-seeking manner !...

However this report, which would suggest that there are both extremely sadistic hoaxers at large where aiding the Stanley in it's hour of need are concerned, or even that there are some who wish to do D o'N down by withdrawing their support...or as you say Dave...seeking to point a most unfair finger at we Fans!..

PS...Or is someone merely making early excuses for some impending Failure?
by releasing this mischievous information ??

I am at a loss!!...but Optimistic !

Spot on TM……….I read some bollocks on here but Christ some people can crate holy hell out of ****** all.

Who ever wrote the statement is irrelevant because when read in context of known facts and if you read what Katy quoted it is clear what was been said.

Letts just relax and wait out the day, the bills getting paid we should be grateful for that.

Quite unfair to be asking employees mab the only people that can answer to this is DON & Rob Heys, Mick wouldnt know any more than us atm i should imagine its hard for ALL of the staff playing ones included to get thro today wondering if tommoz should be the last they turn up for work. So i really wouldnt expect a reply on that matter, he like rest of us will find out pretty soon.

Yonmon, yet again my friend you have said what I didnt have the heart to say.....................After yesterdays 'highs', for the club to stay tight lipped at this the 59th min of the 11th hour is,imho, very worrying.

As for those employed by the Club, God only knows what they must be going through...........my thoughts go out to them.

I implore those in the know to, please just this once, tell us all what is going on, good or bad.

When I was looking through the listings I was hoping I wouldn't find mention of Stanley... but there we are, in black and white, on the listings for tomorrow.

How often the list is updated, I don't know; if the payment were to be made in full it may take a little time to filter down and for changes to be made... but right at this time it's not looking good...

It's going to go right down to the wire, isn't it?

I wouldnt waste your money, if this goes all the way then unfortunatley even the pleadings of a little Girl will not be enough to stem it :(
