Stanley crowd up 40%

Accrington Stanley's average home league atendance rose by 40% last season to 1,980, an increase of 565 on last season.

Although the recently released figures show a 7% decline in attendances in League Two, our crowds have bucked the trend, increasing significantly after suffering something of a slump in the last two seasons. Our average home attendances in League Two since returning to the Football League are as follows:

2006/07 - 2,260
2007/08 - 1,633
2008/09 - 1,415
2009/10 - 1,980

Speaking about the news chief executive Robert Heys said "It is fantastic to have witnessed such a significant rise in the attendances this season, no doubt spured in some ways by our financial problems at the start of the season but backed up with some superb displays on the pitch and a lot of hard work behind the scenes in terms of promoting the matches and the efforts of our Football in the Community scheme.

"We are a small club compared to many of the sides in our division however with the backing of our supporters we have shown we can hold our own in League Two and indeed look to continue to progress."

It would be really nice to grow the crowds again by a similar amount next season and then we would have our biggest crowds in our recent FL times!!

:) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Think it can be done, just needs coley to work the oracle as usual n if the P.R. side gets its ass in gear, am sure will break 2000 average next term.

Nice to see things on the up, I know things got slightly bumped up by the two Friday night bumper gates but it's heading in the right direction.

It's down to the Club to take a sensible lead as there will always be the hardcore but clever ticketing & walk on prices will help as will making the away end more inviting especially on those Autumn & Winter days/evenings where more away fans would perhaps turn up if they knew the facilities were better for their buck.

At the end of the day the away fans are the ones who are going to be the ones paying out more sponnys than the Home fans in terms of perhaps walk on numbers, so perhaps a few areas there to target particulary as we don't know what is going on with the Whinney Hill/Coppice developments at the moment.

A very interesting report on the Social & Community Value of Football:)

Particulary interesting following on from Monday evening when Matt came along to the Supporters Club meeting with Lewis to explain his role & the direction of the Football in the Community at Stanley.

It depends on how the Clubs themselves are structured, the Trust itself represents more than a 160 supporter's trusts and is growing, it seems to have the ear of leading politicians and people within the game.

For a Club like Stanley there are things within the document that are already in place, things that are changing in line with sections of the document, but there are cetainly things within there that could be used as a template to the ends of improving relations with Club, Supporters and the wider Community in general.:)
