Re: Stanley Bit's & Bob's

Howdy folks
As part of a new commitment to content, the club are hoping to have a lot more of the in depth stuff both on the website and in the programme. I've had a couple of meetings with Rob and Martin at the club about this very subject.
In the immediate future there should be (technology permitting) a preview like the one linked to above for every game as well as a detailed(ish) match report on the same day as the game finishes!!!!

In the short term future, the programme will be improving - not particularly the way it looks (it's complicated!) but more what is in it - from the Bradford home game (hopefully) every edition will contain at least one exclusive player interview as well as columns from people involved with the club and the town. The long term plan is that the club becomes entirely responsible for its own programme with no filler material and that it ultimately provides not just value for money but is actually something that you buy to read rather than just through loyalty to the club. This WILL take TIME!

The longer term plan involves an increase in multimedia stuff and some kind of live matchday service provided by the club. More on that as and when.

I'm helping the people who work at the club from day to day with this stuff, as are several other people, including the three lads who currently have the thankless task of producing an entire matchday programme from scratch every week. The most important thing is that as many people as possible get involved in some way - so if you've got an idea for something you'd like to read or indeed write, put it forward. You can contact the club, PM me on here or email [email protected]

I hope this rambling post wasn't too dull!!!

Dan

P.S Pendle Red - the promotional side of the programme has already been discussed. Expect extracts from the programme on the website in advance of them going on sale soon :-)

:):):) Nice to see things are moving along in the right direction:)
Accrington Stanley meet again over Coleman's new deal

ACCRINGTON Stanley say they are close to agreeing new deals with manager John Coleman and his assistant Jimmy Bell.
Coleman and Bell are currently working with a verbal agreement of a rolling one-year contract but have been keen to secure a new deal in writing.
The pair have been in charge of Stanley for almost 11 years, but chairman Ilyas Khan promised to reward them with extended deals when he took over at the Crown Ground in November.
“We are very close to that being signed now, although I know we have said that before,” said chief executive Rob Heys.
“We met with them on Tuesday morning, although the length of the contract is still one of the things being discussed.”
New deals for strikers Bobby Grant and Michael Symes, out of contract in the summer, were also discussed with Coleman and the Reds hoping an agreement can be reached with their top scorers in the near future.

The new club started playing at the Crown Ground, which is now called The Fraser Eagle Stadium, in Livingstone Road, although they did spend one or two seasons back at the old club's former home at Peel Park due to ground problems in the early 1970s.

...got the stadium name wrong too, and we didn't go back to Peel Park for "one or two seasons", it was just one match (2-2 draw against Nelson in March, 1973).

Right, I'll get me anorak. ;)

Transfer Latest: Akande

THE last time we updated you on the potential transfer of Nigerian striker Alex Akande, Accrington Stanley were awaiting news on a work permit for the 21 year old.

Stanley were hoping to wrap up a permanent transfer for the front man, who impressed manager John Coleman on a recent trial in East Lancashire, but paperwork proved to be a stumbling block.

Due to Akande's Nigerian nationality, coupled with him currently living in Hong Kong, the club required a work permit to allow him to join the club, but as Vital Stanley understand, the club didn't hear back from the home office in time to beat the 6pm transfer deadline.

There could still be a loan deal concluded however.

Akande is currently playing with Tai Chung of the Hong Kong First Division following an unsuccessful trial with English Premier League newboys Blackpool.

Whilst with Blackpool the 6ft 1' striker played in one game, when he got a second half run out against Scottish Premier League side Hibernian.

Full name Alexander Oluwatayo Akande, he is sometimes known as 'Alex Tayo' or 'Alex Akande', how about you just choose one instead of trying to confuse my research mate?

He has had one previous spell in England, when he played for Waltham Forest who play in the Isthmian League First Division North. During his 16 appearances for the club in 2007/08, he managed to score 10 times.

A couple of nice pieces in the M.E.N.:

About our 'mean defence': Oxford United 0 Accrington Stanley 0 - Manchester Evening News

About our 'cool headed' penalty win: Tranmere 1 Accrington Stanley 1 (Stanley won 5-3 on pens) - Manchester Evening News

Good to have some positive press for once. :)
