Re: Transfer embargo
Can't see what the problem is myself. The football league have given dispensation to Portsmouth to allow them to make their squad up to the minimum of 20. Would have thought all football league clubs would be treated the same. Seems a bit pointless having rules

More news on the embargo in today's LET :
www.lancashiretelegraph/stanley (again you have to click on the 'news' tab to read the article) - according to this the embargo should be lifted 'imminently' - fingers crossed :) |
Re: Transfer embargo
Stanley in urgent hunt for a striker (From Lancashire Telegraph)
"Stanley, who have taken former Tranmere midfielder Charlie Barnett on trial and travel to AFC Fylde for a friendly tonight, have received confirmation from the Football League that their annual accounts have now been received. The Football League want clarification on a couple of issues but the club hope their transfer embargo will be lifted imminently and are keen to start signing players from Monday. The Reds are likely to start the season without a stadium sponsor after negotiations over a possible deal fell through – with the club unhappy with the money being offered." It's never straightforward, is it? |

Re: Transfer embargo
Frustrated with the contempt shown towards fans who have stumped up hard earned cash to help their club, I emailed the FL for reliable information:
Hi Alan Unfortunately, we are not able to comment on any specific club that may or may not be subject to a registrations embargo. The Football League has a long-standing policy not to comment publicly about the imposition of embargoes, which is maintained to protect the interests of the clubs involved. Player registration embargoes are imposed on clubs in instances where they have breached certain Football League regulations, policies or other requirements as determined by The League Board. The registration embargo will be maintained until the club rectifies the situation to the satisfaction of The League. Given that we are unable to discuss the specifics of any particular case, we are sorry but we cannot comment further. Kind Regards Amanda Amanda Craig Customer Services Administrator The Football League Limited guess that's a 'no' then ! |

Re: Transfer embargo
One can't help but notice the "lack" of an official statement on the fishy site. Funny that as I am sure that when Ilyas was " in control " the statements couldn't come fast enough!! Déjà vu anyone?
Also, considering the club read this forum you would be forgiven for thinking that they would be falling over themselves to try and allay our fears. Or am I being a little over optimistic? Hmmm :( |

However, this didn't happen as neither of these two gentlemen could even bother to offer a welcome to those fans attending the wake (ooops !...I mean't Soiree !) let alone outline just where the club is at..or where it's going !. Any genuine organisation having quality management driving it towards it's goals would never have let such an opportunity to relate in a transparent way with it's consumers escape !!. Several mentioned the fact that Fans didn't appear to matter as long as their Season Tickets had been collected !...perhaps there was a modicum of truth in their concern ?. And, not wanting to cause you a sleepless night, you are I'm afraid 'being a little over-optimistic'. |
Re: Transfer embargo
Still no official statement regarding the current embargo, good or bad, talk about leaving things till the last minute....:0
On the plus side though we have signed a goalkeeper coach ( see fishy site ). A much needed move me thinks! |
Re: Transfer embargo
According to the Observer, the ban is set to be lifted "this week".
The accounts, though, have been sent to Companies House and the Football League and the Reds are just waiting for the all-clear from the league which they expect this week. Coley steps up striker hunt with embargo due to be lifted - Accrington Observer So, as I would imagine the FL admin staff don't work weekends, that must mean this afternoon, then! |
Re: Transfer embargo
I know the season has not began, however Coleman deserves manager of the year for putting up with this.
I do get a hint this episode may be the straw that broke the camels back, if any league clubs come knocking i expect him to move on. You couldnt blame him, he has worked wonders to assemble a squad on conference north wages. |

Charlie Barnett played against Southport and AFC Fylde (number 10), he had two very good games.

Re: Transfer embargo
Just noticed you guys have signed Charlie Barnett. Very talented player with a very bad attitude towards managers and coaching staff. Was signed for us by Ronnie Moore and threw a hissy fit when he wasn't immediately put in the first team. Barnes didn't like him and his relationship with Parry, who is tremendously easy going, completely fell apart. When Moore brought him into the team towards the end of the 08 season Barnett was our best player, and he helped us push on to 7th place in what was a very tough league that year playing on the left hand side. Calls himself a central mid but more suited to playing on the wing at this level. He's fast and tricky, technically good midfielder could run rings around most L2 full-backs if you can find a way to keep him happy. Wish we still had him really. Good luck for the rest of the season, think we'll be seeing you the season after.
|
Re: Transfer embargo
Thanks for that pok, as for season after next, we will be seeing you - in League 1!!!!!!!!!!

On a serious note, it's an overdue appointment and credit to JC and JB for pulling it off. If we're now in a position to add to the coaching staff, presumably the powers that be are confident tha funds are in place... |
Re: Transfer embargo
The thing is Charlie Barnett is a great signing for Accy! It looks like his attitude at clubs have let him down , e.g of that is Tranmere and the post above!
The reason why its a great signing is because we have such determined and very down to earth, strict, football minded, get the best out of a player managing staff in John and Jimmy! They wont take no s**t from Charlie and with the good reviews about how talented he is, this could be one of the signings of the summer for Accrington! Great to see good signings coming to the club!! |
Re: Transfer embargo
Great to see a few more names finally added to the squad list.
Fingers crossed with a couple of loan additions we could have a good season :) |

Re: Transfer embargo
According to today's Telegraph we are under a new transfer embargo for an outstanding debt of £4500 to a Championship Club for a loan player in 2007. Stanley are disputing the amount but hope that it will be cleared up today.

Re: Transfer embargo
I presume it's Chris McGrail. The Preston North End kid who played a couple of times when on 'work experience' . Nearly got us a points deduction because of issues around his registration.
I don't think even Dave O'Neill can be blamed for this one. It must be sorted by now or we wouldn't have been allowed to sign Leam Richardson this week. |
Re: Transfer embargo
There's nowt on the LT website...yet. But two thoughts:
1) I can't see why we are placed under an embargo for what is essentially a disagreement between two clubs over a releatively small monetary amount. This is not a procedural point, such as the non-submission of accounts; it is simply a trading dispute. 2) But...talking of accounts..if the other club is right in the amount claimed by them, it means that despite going through all the headache of reopening the books and reworking the amounts due to creditors, the club and/or it's accountants have still not managed to get it right. Maybe if we are under an embargo, then there is more to it than this. |

Re: Transfer embargo
It could have been one of the lads we had on loan from Cardiff around about then - if it is, maybe they're tring to recoup it so they can pay Motherwell some of what they owe them??
Leam did say after the Aldershot game that he'd agreed a deal but that the club still had to register him, now we understand why that couldn't be done - at this rate we're gonna be under a permanent embargo! |

Squad news ( Tuesday 21st Aug 2007 ) http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/news/ball.gifhttp://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/news/line.gif McGrail signs six month loan deal preston North End striker Chris McGrail has joined Stanley on a six month loan deal.
