Re: Date of the First Meeting regarding ASFC in Community Ownership

I cannot for the life of me understand why a meeting, that is to discuss how the club should be run in the future, is not being held at the very place that is going to be the centre of everything that will be talked about on the night.

What is wrong with the sports bar at the ground?
I may be mistaken but surely it would be free to hold the event there.
There is a bar which people could hand over their money 'to support the club finances'

Location of the ground doesn't seem to be an issue every other Saturday during the football season so why is it any different for this meeting which I assume will be mainly attended by people who go to the games. If new-comers are to attend then it would have been the ideal opportunity for them to become aquainted with the club.

Once again in the simplest of ways this is a lost opportunity :(.

If the community is to be part of the club then surely something as momentous and important as this meeting should be held at the club.

If people can't make it to the ground for the meeting I doubt we will ever get them there.

its earlier than a kick off, some people live away/work etc seems to me its the most convenient access fer the majority.not everyone has a car. plus ya made that statement after ya had/ or had not read post 22? seems if things aint as ya wish ya dont like it.

Cashman, I am not on this thread to fall out with anybody :), it just appeared to me that the sports bar had been not been considered, Mr T has since put me right on this matter, thanks Mr T :).

I had read post 22 and hence my comment because I did not think location was the best of reasons for not capitalising on the facilities the club has at its disposal.

Sports organisations that maximise the use of their venue throughout the week and outside the season can benefit by not relying on higher gates for survival. Thus by opening their doors to non-sports events/fans truly become part of the community, a focus for all occassions if you like. Churches have relied on this for survival over the years in the face of dwindling attendances

My point was, if the meeting was at the club ASFC benefit financially by cash (pardon the pun) over the bar after the meeting and it is a good advertisement which would say 'look at us, this is Accrington Stanley FC holding a forum for the community ownership of the club and its facilities. Just by holding this meeting we are encouraging the supporters and community to give extra support to the club'. I assume there will be a press presence and photo opportunities. I worry that those in the community who we are trying to reach out to would look at reports of the event and say 'Why wasn't it held at the football club? It is holding an event for its own benefit and it isn't even at the ground. What is wrong with it?' Folk can be cynical ;).

I know people who have worked long and hard for many years to encourage the community and businesses to hold events in the sports bar and raise finance for the club, it is not always an easy place to fill outside of match days.

To hold the meeting at the club would best be compared to holding a meeting at Buckingham Palace to form a Republic of England :)
