Great game, and like everyone else I thought Ray Putterill was superb. But it's not easy being a Stanley fan. All these tense finishes.

Re: Oldham thread

All about opinions and I thought he was the weak link as play, broke down each time he was on the ball. Some excellent play with Ryan , Putterrill , Proccy and thought Joyce had a good game and was unfortunate not to score. Lets hope we can keep up the winning run in the league now. Bring it on.

Plus the fact that he is our top scorer this season in all comps and am pretty sure he has the most assists as well, must be doing something right, facts speak louder than opinions.

"There are lies, damned lies and statistics". though I WOULD like to see his Opta statistics for today. One brilliant through ball to set up Ray for Jimmy,s goal, but apart from that mostly wasted possession, and didnt he give away the ball for one of Oldhams goals? One of his better games, actually.:D

Re: Oldham thread

Having read through all of this thread, and having been at the game until the last 10 minutes (due to work commitments I had to leave early), I am suprised not one of the contributors on this site has mentioned the ref. Personally I thought he had the worst game of all (including the players). I believe he was being observed. If that is so then it is back to non-league obscurity for him. He was dreadful. To say Stanley ended up with 11 on the pitch is an understatement. How Jimmy Ryan stayed on the pitch after clearly raising a hand against an opponent right in front of him is beyond me. How Phil Edwards managed to get booked for actually getting the ball before the player is beyond me. He gave very little to Stanley all afternoon (3 goals apart). The only reason Oldham came back into the game was he gave them a penalty for swallow diving (must be a new rule), fortunately the lad was going away from goal rather towards it or Dean might have been in trouble.
Overall though, Jimmy and Ray looked a class apart. Sean Mc tried similar runs but got pushed/hoofed and tackled off the ball too regularly (still too lightweight). Midfield were bossing the game mostly and the defence wasn't too bad except that they tried to stand off their opposite numbers and invited shots etc.
Yes going to Stanley leaves you no fingernails etc BUT I wouldn't have it any other way

Stanley always get bad refs anyway.. safe to say if we ever do win its got to be in a way where the ref cant get involved..

heres hopin for a good draw next round

Re: Oldham thread

Just seen the replay, the lad halfway to the ground before he came into any contact with Winnard.

Their number 18 should have seen red for the two footed studs to the stomach of Ryan, he was lucky only to be pushed back to the floor, scum.

I think outbacks remarks are true, the Ref. was poor, but I was trying to look on the possitives. How many times has a bad Ref cost us 3 points.

Re: Oldham thread

Agree about the ref ,specsavers may help him. Match of the day seem to be showing some doddgy decisions from refs, time they were all assessed. But Stanley were a dream yesterday,we knew they could do it.They've turned the corner now, keep it up lads.Well done.

Re: Oldham thread

thought the side showed a lot of character today, but oldham had not done there homework.
You cant allow putterill time and space between there back line and midfield,he will murder you.
Indeed there holding player was subbed at half time, presumibely for not doing his job.
The game changed in the last 20 mins when oldham put there big centre back up front and went long.
Acci had numerous chances to bury oldham, but didnt.
Acci then had to withstand a bombardment of high balls and second balls and to there credit stood firm.
Was it me or was that never a pen ? the lad was diving before he got near the acci lad !!!

Well what a game that was yesterday, no fingernails left again for me, again !

Razor and Ryan brilliant.

Joyce had his best game of the season without a doubt.

Fantastic cup tie , gotta love the FA Cup, shame about the 2nd round draw, oh well.

On Stanley On!

Totally agree the side would have more strength but SM doesnt seem to get dropped regardless of his performance. Thought Joyce played well and should keep his shirt for the next game.

Sorry OO, cannot agree totally about the ref.... I agree about Jimmy - he should have gone!! But, I thought that he had a good game, he let play go as much as he could and when - after about 30 mins - he caught Bavs telling The Clayton End to keep hold of the ball (to waste time!!) he just called to Bavs and told him that he was not stupid and would add on the time!! Smiling all the way and no card to be seen!! He may have got some things wrong - we are none of us perfect, but all in all, I believe that he did OK!!! :) :) :)

didn't think the ref was that bad, thought linesman on cowshed was a complete cretin, hardly ever put his flag up even fer most obvious thrown in, until the ref had pointed direction it was. a BALLOON.

The Assessor yesterday was none other than the illustrious Alan Wiley ..who was, from his expression, far from impressed...The Referees Assistant on the Main Stand Side waited for the Refs decision on almost every occasion, and as they both on many occasions got it wrong so the game in general suffered....we do get 'em !

Yonmon, sorry wrong

Alan Wiley (a top fella and a friend of ASFC was not the official assessor.) A gentleman from Heywood was, who incidentially was a referee in the 80's. Alan and George Courtney were there working for the Select Panel. They had an excellant day, and will be spreading good words about OUR FANtasic club.

Oldham displayed the Ernie Cooksey flag, in his memory, which they have done at every match since the 2008/09 season. For more information see the Stanley programme.

For those concerned I witnessed the production of the necessary certificate to Mick. :)

Due to print deadlines the programme had to be done before Tuesday's trip to Chesterfield, hence he only had three yellows listed on the stats page.

Hope that clears it up!
