Oldham thread
Hi all
Here's the team news: John Coleman has made four changes to the team that lost at Chesterfield for this afternoon's game with Oldham. Ian Dunbavin, Sean Hessey, Luke Joyce and Ray Putterill return at the expense of Alex Cisak, Jonny Bateson, Peter Murphy and Charlie Barnett. Stanley: (4-2-3-1) Dunbavin, Winnard, Long, Edwards, Hessey, Joyce, Procter, Ryan, Putterill, McConville, Gornell Subs: Cisak, Bateson, Barnett, Parkinson, Turner, Murphy, Boulding Dan |
Re: Oldham thread
i'd have thought bateson would have stayed - otherwise it looks good, two to break up play with joyce and proctor should allow proctor to run from deep a little more
|
Re: Oldham thread
please god tell me the back four lines up with Edwards at RB, Winnard at LB and Long and Hessey at CB, coz if Hessey is at LB we're screwed!!!
|
Re: Oldham thread
Sparkie, I'll tell you in about ten minutes!!!
|
Re: Oldham thread
please!! Not enough spondoolies for us to attend this afternoon i'm afraid.
|
Re: Oldham thread
Edwards starts at...
...right back. |
Re: Oldham thread
ditto Sparkie
and it doesn't make sense to play Winnard at right back when he's been at left back for the past 16 months |
Re: Oldham thread
1: early corner to Stanley after a good ball for McConville from Putterill
|
Re: Oldham thread
Corner is cleared, but Stanley put it back in to McConville at the back post - he hooks it across the face and the goalkeeper spills before grasping the ball
|
Re: Oldham thread
Fleetwood losing 1-0...
|
Re: Oldham thread
Lively start then :)
|
Re: Oldham thread
Wonder how big the crowd is?
|
Re: Oldham thread
get in razor lad
|
Re: Oldham thread
7: GOALLLLLLLLLL
Ray putterill picks the ball up outside the area, beats a defender and curls it home. 1-0 Stanley. |
Re: Oldham thread
Fun and games at Bournemouth. 3-0 v Tranmere after 7 minutes!
|
Re: Oldham thread
Seriously good start Keep it up :D
|
Re: Oldham thread
Magic!!! Trouble is I've already had my cake and eaten it. Very nice it was too!
|
Re: Oldham thread
2 bits of good news!! A goal and Hessey in his right position!!! lol
gonna lose my computer to Cbeebies and Emily!!! I'll return periodically for fresh info!! |
Re: Oldham thread
get your child under control Sparks!
nice one Razor lad, let's keep at 'em |
Re: Oldham thread
13: Phil Edwards is booked for a tackle on Tounkara - means his run of consecutive appearances will come to an end as that's his fifth

Re: Oldham thread
14: Ray's at it again - intercepting outside the box and driving a left foot shot on goal - looked destined for the top corner, but forced a superb one handed save from Dean Brill
|
Re: Oldham thread
Nice start......On, Stanley On! - Don't balls it up.
|
Re: Oldham thread
Coley's first objective achieved - 15 minutes without conceding
|
Re: Oldham thread
Aye & it needs to stay that way :)
|
Re: Oldham thread
Quite quiet at the minute - and that's a GOOD thing
|
Re: Oldham thread
What's the crowd size looking like Dan?
|
Re: Oldham thread
36: 2-0
Putterill breaks down the right, gets to the byline and cuts the ball back. Jimmy Ryan is waiting at the back post to drill it in - Brill gets a touch but it's a goal |
Re: Oldham thread
Jimmy Ryan scores at will!
|
Re: Oldham thread
Unbelievable. Don't throw it away now.

Re: Oldham thread
Getting better & better ! :mosher:
Looking at the BBC fixtures list, this is one of the better games. |
Re: Oldham thread
37: Tounkara hits the post for Oldham
|
Re: Oldham thread
Well bang goes my prediction lol...........but do I care?
Well done jimmy. |
Re: Oldham thread
Oops double post, sorry.
|
Re: Oldham thread
Are the defence having a good game ? Or is it down to Oldham not attacking that the boys seem to be cruising this game ?
|
Re: Oldham thread
That's half time...
|
Re: Oldham thread
Thanks for all the updates so far Dan. You're miles quicker than the BBC!
|
Re: Oldham thread
On reflection a damn site better than the last couple of weeks, second half they want to change to 1-7-2-1 :D
|
Re: Oldham thread
Thanks Teach.
I've been quicker though...! My half time verdict - a very solid 45 minutes, with Ray Putterill catching the eye in particular. Stanley have looked as threatening as ever going forward (the two goals are testament to that) but have also given little away defensively. Long has looked strong and Hessey has made some crucial interceptions. In front of the defence, Procter and Joyce have looked very good, doing sterling work helping defence out and winning the ball back. All in all very promising. But we remember Rotherham etc eh? |
Re: Oldham thread
well much as I enjoyed watching Gigglebiz, the best news was returning to another goal having been scored! the midfield duo of Razor and Ryan seem to be back in the groove and away we go, let's just hope that Long doesn't make it 3 penalties in 3 games and that we can hold out
|
Re: Oldham thread
And you were ribbing me over Emily watching Cbeebies, you've been watching it yourself!!!
|
Re: Oldham thread
Putterill again! 3-0
|
Re: Oldham thread
Puterill you da man lol.
|
Re: Oldham thread
Congratulations to anyone who predicted this!!!
|
Re: Oldham thread
Great stuff, this has certainly been missing the last couple of weeks !
|
Re: Oldham thread
I see Tom Lees has got Bury's second. And Fleetwood are now 1-1 against 10-man Walsall.
Tranmere have pulled back 3 to go level at Bournemouth... |
Re: Oldham thread
get in there Putts!
erm, yeah Sparkie - but it was the missus that turfed me off the laptop until after half time - not my three year old! |
Re: Oldham thread
Lost internet, but it's all good news. 3-0 to Stanley and Putterill could've had a hat-trick!
|
Re: Oldham thread
This is one way traffic.
Of the good sort! |
Re: Oldham thread
Gornell, Putterill and Procter could all have scored in the last ten minutes. Superb going forward.
But to be fair, in the interest of balance, Oldham have been AWFUL |
Re: Oldham thread
To hell with balance Dan, were winning lol.
|
Re: Oldham thread
but only 3-1 now... :(
|
Re: Oldham thread
69: curses -3-1
Warren Feeney (second half sub) finds the bottom right corner. Nervous? |
Re: Oldham thread
Oldham just got 1 back (SKY)
|
Re: Oldham thread
70: Gornell inches from restoring the three goal lead
|
Re: Oldham thread
Penalty to Oldham
|
Re: Oldham thread
oh double crap!
potty training takes a triple dollop turn for the worse and Stanley concede to set up an unbelievably tense last 20 |
Re: Oldham thread
Morais brought down by Winnard
Up steps Dale Stephens - who scores - 3-2 |
Re: Oldham thread
Oldham pen. 3-2
|
Re: Oldham thread
Who gave it away ? :(
3 : 2 Stanley, mistakes creeping in again |
Re: Oldham thread
Huddersfield all over again? but from three up rather than two up?
|
Re: Oldham thread
When have we ever done things the easy way?
|
Re: Oldham thread
This is excruciating
|
Re: Oldham thread
Oldham goal - DISALLOWED
Evina crossed for Feeney, his shot was saved by Bav but he stuck in the rebound. Oldham celebrated. But the flag was up on the near side... |
Re: Oldham thread
Don't Stanley come with a health warning ...... ? ;)
|
Re: Oldham thread
Oh my god - why can't we just leather someone and be done with?
|
Re: Oldham thread
FIVE minutes added
|
Re: Oldham thread
93 - oldham hit the post
|
Re: Oldham thread
HOW MANY ?
|
Re: Oldham thread
All over!
|
Re: Oldham thread
Get in there! Anyone know when the 2nd round draw is?
|
Re: Oldham thread
Full time at last Stanley 3 : 2 Oldham. Excellent result, but oh how awkward they make things for themselves ! (& US) :D
And the only time I've got a score spot on:D |
Re: Oldham thread
thank god that's over
on an another note I didn't hear the cheers from my house |
Re: Oldham thread
Cheers for that Dan. :)

|
Re: Oldham thread
Phew !
Thanks again Dan, an excellent job as usual. |
Re: Oldham thread
Thanks again Dan !!!
|
Re: Oldham thread
Thanks again, Dan
|
Re: Oldham thread
A very enjoyable game,if a little nervy towards the end. A few missed oportunities but their goalie made some good saves. Jimmy Ryan played well, the ultras never stopped singing and made it a good atmosphere. I thought there was more than 2300 specs. All in all a good day and I was 30 out on the 50-50 draw

Re: Oldham thread
Agree that most men gave their all but thought number 11 was shocking. Lost the ball more than any other player and jumped out of challenges. Brill Ryan again, doubt he will be here much longer and Putterril was sharp and hungry. well done you reds.
|
Re: Oldham thread
Coley got it spot on with one word in that piece Dan "Character":hothothot
Remarkable game for any neutrals you would be surprised for seventy minutes who were the higher league team. To a man the Reds were magnificent showing true desire & great determination to dig into their reserves as the Latics pushed on There were starring roles in there but the most pleasing aspect was it was a real team effort on the pitch That was matched by the voiceforous support from the Ultras who once again found their voices and lifted the team and certainly morale around the terrace from the off. |
Re: Oldham thread
Number 11 wasn,t that bad, he did help set up Oldhams first goal with a great lay off to one of thier players. ;)

Re: Oldham thread
Oldham fan here, had a good day despite the result and our performance for 60 minutes!
Good people you Accrington lot. Was a proper fast and furious cup tie, Stanley were hungrier and caused us all sorts of problems, but at least our lads had the bottle to not just throw the towel in, and we came sooo close to that equaliser! Ah well, not to be, and it wouldn't have been the fair result. Congrats, and a hearty good luck for the rest of your season. |
Re: Oldham thread
Cheers simpo, was strange to see a couple of flags on the oldham end, cause they banned ours.
|
Re: Oldham thread
we need to spend the winnings on players contracts .
|
Re: Oldham thread
A bit of "Razor" Ray Putterill for you here: ASFC News Story > 3679
He was an understandably very happy man! |

Razor's gonna be hard to keep hold of too. I think his contract is up at xmas so better put a good deal on the table for him or he may be off.

Re: Oldham thread
Today's result was just what was needed to stop the rot of recent weeks. The defence was very shaky towards the end but I do think that with Bavs back the defence seemed that little bit stronger. Jimmy Ryan and Ray were brilliant but I thought that SM had another stinker of a game, why he gets picked each week I have yet to work out. We really need this game to push and get back up the League 2 table and push on for the Play-Offs.
