Correct Pendle.

The only way to keep Long now would be to have him till the end of the season??? Cant really see Burnley wanting or needing a loan fee for him, so surely its worth the call to the Turf???

As for Jacobsen and Craney, thought they had decent games at Morecambe but as Coley says we just havent got the money to keep them??? As no doubt Oldham and Fleetwood are charging us a fee.

I agree firepower is needed, but would also like to see Boulding and Lindfield given more chances up top, but with our formation it aint gonna happen.

Not so sure there is actually a loan fee, I think the loaning club usually pay the wages of the players concerned unless it's waived ( which I guess is the case in Long's case ).

93 days is the maximum loan period for the emergency loan window. I think becuase January is an open window then you can take a loan out to the end of the season. Not sure about Long staying, I think it's highly likely he is not required back but of course Burnley have no manager to make the decision he isn't wanted. Could be a new manager thinks he has actually got a chance of making the first team squad.

My concern is what have they offered that Parkinson, Bateson and particularly Putteril couldn't? I just don't think they are an improvement on the above mentioned STANLEY players.

Spot on Larry , Jacobsen and Craney are no better than the players we have so not worth breaking the bank for. Give Putterrill and Bateson a run.

Not sure Larry, ive never been Craney's biggest fan but he has had a decent impact in the 2 games ive seen him.

Jacobsen I think will go back to Oldham, he obviously hasnt played alot of football.

Bateson appears to have dropped off the face of the earth ?

According to the Fishy Site looks like we are after extending the loan deals for Jacobson & Craney.

I think Joe gives a balance to the back four with being naturally left footed and again first team appearances will only add to his stability & the clubs at the back.

Craney is adding something as per first half against Chesterfield but it's a tough call for me between him & Rayzor for that spot.

I have been impressed with Putterill especially to come back from such a career threatening injury and has looked good and added a little balance again with being naturally left sided whilst bossing a few games along the way.

If nothing else it gives as fans something to talk & debate about:)

I'd agree on the theory behind that, and hoped the same would happen when we signed him, but I don't think it's worked in practice. I've only seen two performances of Joe's, but in the first against Port Vale he was absent and in the second against Chesterfield, he had a very poor game. I've no doubt that his mistakes and anonymity have been due to a lack in match practice rather than a lack of quality, but we aren't in a position to donate starting spots in order to help players through tough patches in their careers.

I'd like to see the squad trimmed throughout January, with loan players sent back to their parent clubs and squad players either utilised or released.

Long - sent back, replaced by Owens.
Craney - sent back, replaced by Putterill.
Jacobson - sent back, replaced by Bateson (with Winnard resuming his left-back position).
Turner - loaned out for match practice.

What good is it him being left footed when he keeps using it to boot the ball to the opposition, and to send free kicks lobbed to their goalie?? I could do that with my left foot.:D Doesn't seem to use it to close the winger down either IMHO.

Fair point's as Shaker has said maybe we are not in a position to let people get up to speed & match fitness, but in saying that to help justify my point by sticking with Long after a shaky start to life at the Crown Ground we are now reaping the benefits;)

I'd agree; Kevin Long's performances have much improved since his first appearance and he has given much to the team in the way of defensive stability. However he is prone to moments of madness and this has cost the team both goals and points. Even in his more stable performances of recent times (and please correct me if I'm wrong), his shoddy marking granted Morecambe their equaliser and his poor decision making gifted Chesterfield their first goal. Now that Andy Owens is fit, I'd much rather see him fill the role of the tall centre half alongside Edwards.

Pendle Red 05-01-2011 18:09

Re: Transfer Window

Andy Owens again is a bit untried with only fleeting cameo roles so far, so again could be viewed as a gamble and unsettling?

I think the defence as a whole this season have all endured their own personal nightmares at times.

But still think the key is stability.

I agree in principal with your earlier point that the squad as a whole needs to be utilised more even it is only as subs to change the shape of games whether going more attack or defensive minded depending on the game situation.

Re: Transfer Window

Redraine and shakermaker have got it spot on, at this level fullbacks defend first, cover the cb,s ,and get out wide to stop crosses coming in, get the ball and play it simple to the ball players, most people want the fullbacks to be overlapping and attacking, this is a bonus but not a necessity,
