Re: Transfer Window

Regarding Owens, I have been hoping for a while He gets a chance , but after talking to a mate who saw him play not long back and suggested He was more a sweeper, than a long type cb , maybe that's why he's had 2 wait his turn with Phil being so consistent

That I understand but when you have a five man midfield you don't need your full backs setting off on mazey runs if you want flying wing backs then surely you go with five at the back?

true pendle red, but acci play a flat back 4, so the fullbacks jobs are as my previous post, most teams play this, only morecambe played wing backs , as I recall

Jacobsen I think will go back to Oldham, he obviously hasnt played alot of football.

Bateson appears to have dropped off the face of the earth ?

Bateson must have fallen out with the main man, Mr C, can't see any other reason for his disappearance.

Me too, can't understand Owens not at least being on the bench,as how many games do we come under the cosh late on and need aerial reinforcement!!

But not another

Accrington have extended defender Joe Jacobson's loan deal until 29 January, with a view to extending his stay for the remainder of the season. The 24-year-old, who joined Stanley from Oldham, has made four appearances since arriving at the Crown Ground.
But manager John Coleman has missed out on signing midfielder Ian Craney.
The Liverpool-born player, who has had three previous spells with Accrington, has made three appearances since rejoining the club on loan.

Jason Price has gone back to Carlisle after his loan spell at Bradford. He's a big, awkward customer with a bit of pace who gave our defenders a hard time in the air and on the floor at their place recently. Just what we need if Coley is ignoring Rory. Assuming, that is, he ever wants to play 2 big uns up front?

may have a point there redraine, like last year, when the weather kicks in and pitches become heavy, they went more direct and fought for the second ball,Although i think Gornell is adapting his game to suit with jimmy, razor and charlie picking up the second ball

Re: Transfer Window

Some interesting offerings on team formations and players to fit the roles. I like a true left footer at left back. Jacobson has a great left foot and also liooks quite compose most of the time. I do agree that so far some of his passing has at times been alittle wayward but I think he needs a run of games to improve and to allow his confidence to grow. I don't think he has played all that reularly since he was last on loan with us. He is the sort of player, (so far a "nearly player"), that Coley and Jimmy can take under their wing and turn into a really good player. I hope he gets a decent run with us.
Ian Craney seems to play his best for Stanley and again I am sure this is down to the way Coley and Jimmy have a knack of building players up. He(Craney) really hasn't produced the goods with any other team since leaving us the first time. Of course money is an issue as to wether he can return full time, on loan or for a season loan. If you were to ask him who he really wants to play for I am sure he would say Stanley/Coley and Jimmy!!!
I like the 442 system but with two true wingers, (remeber Hoskins/ Grimmy..Prendergast/Payne and Calcutt to name a few), who attack the opposing full backs on their outside, thus getting to the goal line and creating chances in the penalty box by pulling the ball back, which takes the opposing keeper out of play and allows midfielders like Craney,Procter and Ryan to power into the box running onto a ball coming towards them rather than running away from them.

Re: Transfer Window

some fair points choirboy, agree about the fullback debate, but a lot of coaches are shying away from the 4 4 2 system, basically because playing against a 4 5 1 you get over-run in the centre of midfield ( acci have over run/passed to death a few teams this season).
Even the top teams , Barca ,real madrid etc.. defend as a 4 5 1 but switch to a 4 3 3 when going forward.
Thought Acci was a bit negative at the start of the season when they played 2 holding midfielders ( didnt conceed many tho),but now we seem to play a more attack minded 4 1 4 1,with the attacking mids interchaining and proving hard to pick up.
The key to this being successful is the centre forward showing and holding the ball up.
Its no coincedence that when Gornell plays well,Acci do !!!!!
If you see Accis shots/chances per game its obvious they have the players to adapt to this style, one match this season someone is going to be on the end of an hiding (6,7 or even 8 )
