evening all. thought i'd pop over and see how likely THIS game is to go ahead?

lost 2 to frozen pitches already and now we're hearing the Crown Ground is suffering from heavy water.

have the club managed to rectify that problem or are we looking at a postponement?

Greeny 21-02-2011 18:27

contractors were back last week and did a lot more work,as reguards to tomorrow nights game you better off speaking to Rob Heyes I think at the club.

Good evening Dan!!! I will be here for the duration as Cowboy is working and I have Emily who is about to go to bed just in time for kick off!!!

Dan 22-02-2011 18:27

Re: Crewe Thread

We're getting deep vein thrombosis in the press box as normal... Crewe have quite a following.

The pitch is the big talking point. It's dry. Which is nice.

Dan 22-02-2011 18:30

Re: Crewe Thread

Incidentally, do you refer to your husband as Cowboy at home Sarah? Cos that could be interpreted as a little odd!!!

Dan 22-02-2011 18:40

Re: Crewe Thread

Five minutes to go before the players emerge onto the striped pitch. How's everyone feeling?

Dan 22-02-2011 18:45

Re: Crewe Thread

The teams are out. Crewe doing a passable impression of Blackpool in white tops and tangerine shorts

Ok; a bit randy Dan; but Dani is a bit more my type I’m happy to say……:D

8: Stanley 0 Crewe 1 (Byron Moore)

Dan 22-02-2011 18:56

Re: Crewe Thread

A long ball down the right into Stanley's area, Hessey and Edwards got in each other's way and Moore had time to turn and beat Cisak.

Any idea, Dan why Cisak is starting ahead of Bavs, who has been in good form lately?

Re: Crewe Thread

well recovered boys!!!

Dan 22-02-2011 18:59

Re: Crewe Thread

Craney advancing on goal, taking his time and assessing his options, laid it left to Barnett who shot across the goalkeeper and into the bottom right

Redraine 22-02-2011 19:00

Re: Crewe Thread

Wow! Is it going to be another 8 goal affair?

david1 22-02-2011 19:01

Re: Crewe Thread

Is that Charlie " Bennett " Dan ? Thats what the bbc are calling him

Dan 22-02-2011 19:02

Re: Crewe Thread

Redraine, Coley said there was no particular reason for making the change on Saturday. Perhaps just using his squad? After all there are still a lot of games to go.

15 minutes gone here and a goal at each end. Pretty high octane stuff so far. Has to be quite direct due to the irregular bounce of the pitch, though Stanley's goal was a very nice passing move

Doug 22-02-2011 19:03

Re: Crewe Thread

Come On, get into them Stanley 1-1

Dan 22-02-2011 19:06

Re: Crewe Thread

Well bounced back lads. Let's keep it going and hopefully reciprocate the 6-1 they gave us at Ewood :)

Dan 22-02-2011 19:13

Re: Crewe Thread

26: Craney weaves his way through the defence and shoots left footed - it takes a deflection and the keeper saves with his legs

Dan 22-02-2011 19:16

Re: Crewe Thread

29: Hessey powers in a free kick from the right and Gornell rises to head just wide

DaveinGermany 22-02-2011 19:19

Re: Crewe Thread

The Boys seem quite feisty tonight ! Which is good, let's hope they get the result.

Blackpool winning 1-0

Dan 22-02-2011 19:21

Re: Crewe Thread

Stanley are playing some really nice football this evening... Just need that second goal

Dan 22-02-2011 19:34

Re: Crewe Thread

Half time. 1-1. Stanley just shading it on chances, but probably a fair scoreline.

Redraine 22-02-2011 19:35

Re: Crewe Thread

How's the pitch standing up, Dan?

Dan 22-02-2011 19:48

Re: Crewe Thread

It's still sandier than some beaches and stripier than some zoo animals, but I've seen it worse. It's certainly pretty dry... In the circumstances it is not pretty, but got the game on, so that's the main thing.

Dan 22-02-2011 19:52

Re: Crewe Thread

47: 2-1 Stanley - Gornell chests it down and Ian Craney rattles it in from range. BEAUTIFUL

Terrific goal. The Clayton End is giving us a rendition of Ian's song. It's his first goal in the Red shirt for two and a half years, but it's like he was never away...

Ball into Barnett just inside the area, he squared, McConville avoided a challenge and powered it in.

Superb win by teh Stanley, just a pity I could not get there, looking after the missus who had an op on her arm this morning. Just in from a nice meal out - oh yessss! :)

Had to take the scarf out of the car rear window at about 9.30, as Mrs C driving home and it blocks her rear mirror view - bit worried as probably 10 minutes to go and who knows what affects what happens? But no worries now!

Re: Crewe Thread

Great Win.

Barnett & Ryan = Immense Yet again.

Craney does nowt for 3 games and pulls that out of the bag, typical!! Though I suppose thats the kind of player he is.

Pitch is beyond a joke.

Great win, bring on Torquay.

shakermaker 22-02-2011 21:24

Re: Crewe Thread

Great game.

Terry Gornell put in a magnificent centre-forward performance and was unlucky not to get a goal for his efforts. He was man of the match for me, though Hessey comes close. Glad to see him back in top form.

We must stop losing concentration and getting sloppy with our play. Hopefully these back-to-back wins will give the lads a stronger winning mentality with which to keep switched on for the full 90 minutes of each remaining game.

Well done Reds. Bloody good win, that.

How do i sum up tonight- great game, 2 good footballing sides, a ref who deserves much credit fer letting the game flow, Stanley deserved the 3 pts, MoM fer me was without doubt the Crewe Keeper, kept em in it with quite a few top notch saves, Craney scores probably best goal ive seen at the Crown this season, gets subbed heard a groan when McConville came on, on mins n he scores a cracker, showing great composure in the box, hope he adds consistency too his game n may just change me mind, Well Done Reds.:)

Well done Stanley.

With Michael Symes missing the penalty he won against my other side a good evening all in all.

Hope Springs eternal that they might be playing other in League 1 next season instead of League 2.

This grudging, yet strangely humbling admission I find.....

astonishing, astounding, awe-inspiring, awesome, awful, bewildering, breathtaking, confounding, difficult to believe , extraordinary, fabulous, fantastic, implausible, improbable, incomprehensible, inconceivable, incredible, miraculous, phenomenal, prodigious, remarkable, singular, spectacular, staggering, strange, striking, stunning, stupendous, supernatural, surprising, unbelievable, unimaginable, unlikely, unusual, wonderful, and wondrous.
.....and I don't believe it for one moment !!...

Re: Crewe Thread

From Crewe Manager Dario Gradi on the Crewe Website:

Credit to Accrington though. I thought they looked one of the best sides we have faced this season. They looked as though they were from a different division in the first half. Their centre forward was a real handful and they have scored three goals against us.

I thought that when David Artell had scored a great goal then we could go on to win the game but that would have been harsh on Accrington because they were better than us tonight.

:D:D:D

football19 22-02-2011 22:18

Re: Crewe Thread

Agree with shakermaker, but its not concentration they need to guard against but the giving away needless freekicks around the area.
Acci are not the biggest of teams and on another day it may prove costly.
Thought the back four played there three flying machines very well, but the m o m should have been Gornell who was brilliant again, providing the target for the outlet ball and bringing others into play.
Keeper also did well when called upon.

Good summary also from Coley, though can excuse the "Flat Spots" he talks of, Crewe were a damn good footballing side n yeh can expect periods when they had the edge.:);) thankfully only short periods tonight cos oer 90 mins Stanley outplayed em.

Re: Crewe Thread

Preston fan in peace here.

My auntie lives in Accrington so she decided she wanted to go on a game so I came along and went on the terraced stand (no idea what it's name is).

Great atmosphere from the start, and saw two great teams play good football on a bad surface. I got involved in the singing too and loved the Gornell chant. Craney scored a thunderbolt as well which was good. Liked Gornell and Ryan, two players who had class and who i'd definately want at Preston.

All in all I was impressed. Definately going to come on again another game.

I thought Hessey had a really good game, especially first half. All the goals were good, but Craney's goal brilliant. Both sides deserve credit for putting on such a good game on that pitch.
