Burton Thread
Hi all
Match preview for tonight's game is now online - ASFC News Story > 3928 Apologies that it's a bit sparse build-up wise. Having a few technical difficulties! Dan |
Re: Burton Thread
Once again unable to get to the game as am working tonight. So will be relying on text updates and young Dans rantings!
Dan, did you get the link I sent you? |

Is it my fault that I look like a culinary charity case???
|
Re: Burton Thread
And Cowboy, I got your email, but haven't done anything as yet due to a lack of internet since returning from Gillingham.
A job for tomorrow! |
Re: Burton Thread
We're unchanged friends...
|
Re: Burton Thread
Stanley: Cisak, Winnard, Edwards, Hessey, Jacobson, Joyce, Procter, Ryan, Craney, McConville, Gornell
Subs: Dunbavin, Long, Lindfield, Putterill, Murphy, Boulding, Smyth |
Re: Burton Thread
It's a wee bit foggy at the Crown... five minutes til kick off
|
Re: Burton Thread
Teams are out. And I can see them. JUST!
|
Re: Burton Thread
We're under way...
|
Re: Burton Thread
which end are we attacking, Dan - helps to visualise
|
Re: Burton Thread
4: Gornell shoots from the left corner of the area but it hits Craney and is cleared
|
Re: Burton Thread
Stanley attacking the Coppice End in the first half, the usual all red attire.
The visitors are in their change strip of white tops, blue shorts and blue socks. Alex Cisak is sporting a snazzy radioactive mushy pea coloured number. And it's a touch on the foggy side, with the pitch looking the best it has for a bit. Good enough for visualisation? ;-) |
Re: Burton Thread
10: Ryan forces a first save from Adam Legzdins with a swerving effort
|
Re: Burton Thread
you haven't said if the ref is sporting a 'tache !
|
Re: Burton Thread
13: McConville's cross evades Gornell but drops to Procter on the edge of the box, who drills it just wide
|
Re: Burton Thread
The ref is clean shaven by the way. All in black, as refs should be!
|
Re: Burton Thread
Hope this isn't another night of shots off target.
|
Re: Burton Thread
Teach, there's been one on target already, which is one more than at Lincoln!
I'd say Stanley are shading it. Most of their shots are being blocked at the minute - another a second ago from Craney bounced out to McConville who volleyed well wide |
Re: Burton Thread
hope not Teach, I've tipped us to get 4 tonight
|
Re: Burton Thread
24: Stanley 1 Burton 0
|
Re: Burton Thread
Hessey's free kick in, header repelled by the keeper (from Gornell I think, it is foggy!) but Phil Edwards blasted in the rebound.
Lovely stuff! |
Re: Burton Thread
Shows how much I know! Come on Stanley.
|
Re: Burton Thread
On, Stanley On!
|
Re: Burton Thread
Maybe we could bring long on and put phil up front?
|
Re: Burton Thread
33: Craney is slotted in down the left, the keeper comes, Craney shoots low but it slides just wide
|
Re: Burton Thread
Quote:
Don't know about that; bit of a Long Shot.................:D |
Re: Burton Thread
Boom boom! :-)
|
Re: Burton Thread
41: Gornell drills the ball across the face of goal from the left and McConville diverts it just wide
|
Re: Burton Thread
One minute added
|
Re: Burton Thread
Quiet on here tonight. What's the attendance like dan
|
Re: Burton Thread
That's half time - Stanley 1 Burton 0

Re: Burton Thread
Bbc stats don't read very well for burton....
|
Re: Burton Thread
Nobody ever talks to me on here for home games dabeast...
Awaiting confirmation of the attendance. It's not bad for a midweek, but hardly packed. Hard to tell from where we sit in the main stand to be honest though |
Re: Burton Thread
I don't have any specific stats, but I can't think of a shot that Burton have had. Or a ball into the area...
But let's not be complacent eh? They can hardly make less of an impact after the break. |
Re: Burton Thread
Should be a reasonable crowd as they've been pushing the 5 Quid ticket for a while, so that should've raised a few extra through the turnstiles.
|
Re: Burton Thread
Just referring back to the first page of this thread - I am getting NON STOP stick about pies!!!
|
Re: Burton Thread
That's why I was asking dave
|
Re: Burton Thread
And lo and behold... I have a pie!!!
|
Re: Burton Thread
Flavour???
|
Re: Burton Thread
it's only jealousy, Dan. We all luv pies ! - any sign of Eric at the game ?
|
Re: Burton Thread
Meat and potato..
Only at Stanley would a member of the press be presented with a pie at half time by a messageboard user... I love this place! Burton are making a change at the break. Greg Pearson for Aaron Webster. We're off! |

47: It gets better - 2-0 Stanley!
|
Re: Burton Thread
Horrid mis kick from the keeper, presented it to Ian Craney who made no mistake, rounding him to slot home.
2-0 |
Re: Burton Thread
Great start to the second half. Maybe it could be 4-0 after all.
|
Re: Burton Thread
Get in there the Red Men !!!!! What happened ?
|
Re: Burton Thread
Keep up Dave!
|
Re: Burton Thread
Lucky pie strikes. Gotta start taking them to away games dan

Re: Burton Thread
66: 3-0 Andy PROCTER!
|
Re: Burton Thread
teach you could be on for your first 5 pointer of the season!

Gornell thwarted as he looked to break through, but it fell to Ryan who found Procter and the captain finished emphatically 3-0
|

|
Re: Burton Thread
84: terrific curling effort from Murphy turned around the post
|
Re: Burton Thread
87: Burton pull one back - ball in from the left poked in by Greg Pearson
|
Re: Burton Thread
Ah, there we go that's more like it 3-1. :o Thought we were having it far too much our own way.
|
Re: Burton Thread
Four minutes added

I think that might blow a hole in some of the business models on here that the cheaper the ticket the bigger the crowd  |
Re: Burton Thread

I am the biggest (and possibly only) advocator of permanent £5 tickets - but they'd have to be publicised in a proper (and professional ) manner and be just what I said - permanent. 1st reason - it would give Ilyas a real indication of whether it is worth spending ten million of his own money on a new stadium or one million redeveloping what we have. 2nd - as a permanent price, for kids, adults, oldies, grant grabbers and everyone in between it is easy off the tongue, easy to remember and cannot be argued with as the most value for money ticket in the country. 3rd - Stanley have a ridiculous amount of bridges to re-build in Accrington and its surounds, marketed as a "finally giving something back to the community" its a no brainer winner. but as I've said all along, on its own it wouldn't be that much of a winner (but I still believe it would be to some extent), but would need to be as part of a wider push on all fronts. Sadly the club as it stands would be in no position to do that (see 1st paragraph as to why). |
Re: Burton Thread
Quote:
ah that explains it then, I didn't even know he had taken on the marketing role  |
Re: Burton Thread
well i might have been a bit hasty there, but i would guess it falls under his jurisdiction via the "go put these posters up in the places that support the gold bond" example being that the newsagents on and Grey Horse on Whalley Road had them, but the Oaklea didnt
|
Re: Burton Thread
Quote:
We had them but don't do Gold Bond. :) It's a commercial or retail issue surely ? |
Re: Burton Thread
well you'd have thought so.
who dropped your leaflets off? |
Re: Burton Thread
Quote:
If they were delivered on the Gold Bond round wouldn't that be logical ? Did anybody else get out and about with them ? For what it's worth people did actually notice them, as I posted earlier we had a few enquiries. Maybe a lesson to be learned ? |
Re: Burton Thread
indeed. Your right it would make sense to deliver them whilst out and about on the Gold Bond route - but also there are many other places that would possibly take them (like yourselves and the Oaklea) who just dont bother doing the Gold Bond. There are many things that could be done, regarding advertising games, that aren't. Some cost money and some dont. But until this club gets its thumb out of its arse and starts to see that the world doesn't owe it anything and you have to work and earn things, then it wont get anywhere with half arsed promotions like tonight.

Back to the thread title...
BRILLIANT, just brilliant Well done STANLEY. |
Re: Burton Thread
A pretty poor first half followed by a good second half performance which in turn lifted the crowd.
A good three points A big well done to players, management & staff for keeping it moving forward in what has been difficult circumstances:) Didn't see the setup for the selling of merchandise in the main stand a simple yet a good idea and hopefully a bit of a income generator for the Club. |
Re: Burton Thread
"A good second half performance which in turn lifted the crowd".
Just a quick note re some of the 'so called fans' near the dugouts. 3 nil up, playing some good passing football and still you have a group of 'Duds':dork::dork: abusing JC & JB about way we are playing' (also 1 or 2 from the freeloaders box. Oops sorry meant Directors Box). Perhaps just letting 'anyone' in for a fiver, not such a good idea. |

His work rate was exceptional. Unlucky with some of the offside decisions in the second half too, I was sat in line with a few of them and they were definately wrong. Deserved a goal |
