Re: Port Vale Thread
About time your biggest game of the season and you only start a thread in the late afternoon of the day before.
More interested in Comic Relief eh? Hello BTW Looking forward to the game tomorrow. Not so much watching the Vale but making the trip having a few beers and moaning about the board. Think you'll beat us to beat honest the football under Gannon has been dull, boring, unadventurous and very defensive. Hope that it doesn't ruin the game for you too. |
Re: Port Vale Thread
:) Just a little extra... Jim Gannon told the Official Site he was prepared for a tough encounter at the Crown Ground: 'They play a continental 4-3-2-1 formation and have got three excellent attacking midfielders in McConville, Craney and Ryan. They have also got a very good free transfer in Terry Gornell, who I rate highly. 'They have really improved this year and I think they have grown as a team, so Saturday will be a real challenge for us.' Accrington Stanley Team News: Coleman looks set to name the side that beat Burton Albion on Tuesday as he continues to be without injury victims Leam Richardson and Charlie Barnett. Possible Team: Cisak, Winnard, Hessey, Edwards, Jacobsen, Procter, Ryan, McConville, Joyce, Craney, Gornell. Player to watch: Sean McConville The attacking midfielder has already netted nine times this season and will pose a threat along with fellow midfielders Ian Craney and Jimmy Ryan. The 22 year old started his career at Skelmersdale United before making the switch to Accrington in 2009. Port Vale Team News: Gannon could make changes to the side that lost at home to Oxford. Gareth Owen should be fit following his lengthy lay off with the knee and ankle injuries he sustained during the 1-1 draw at Wycombe at the beginning of February, but it is unlikely he will start. Stuart Tomlinson will be hopeful of regaining his position after replacing Chris Martin in goal at half time last week. Anthony Griffith, Rob Taylor and Louis Dodds will all be in contention for a recall. Dominic Blizzard has been named in the squad following his switch from Bristol Rovers. Possible Team: Tomlinson, Yates, McCombe, Collins, K Taylor, Geohaghon, Morsy, Blizzard, M Richards, J Richards, Haldane. |

Re: Port Vale Thread
Couple of half chances for Stanley early on, but no saves for either keeper so far
|
Re: Port Vale Thread
23: Craney with good play on the edge of the D, shoots but the keeper collects
|
Re: Port Vale Thread
does anyone know if the 'players' on everyone elses website are linked to each other? Reason I ask is because last week I made use of the free 14 day trial that Gillingham had and somebody on the Vale thread has mentioned it for their site. IF this is the case then it might be worth the while of non-travelling fans to subscribe to one next season for coverage?
|
Re: Port Vale Thread
Crewe, Gillingham, and Torquay all losing at the moment :)
|
Re: Port Vale Thread
Don't think they're linked as such Macca, just that one firm supplies the tech for the clubs to use but the actual commentary is relevant to the Club (their games broadcast) you sign up with.
|
Re: Port Vale Thread
and now Torquay getting further behind and Stevenage losing, can't really get much better if The Reds could get in front!

Gornell stayed onside down the Stanley right and laid the ball into Craney. He picked out McConville on the edge of the area, and he found the bottom left.

Re: Port Vale Thread
Brill performance from the men in red today Jacobson,Joyce and Craney were superb, after Tuesday I thought Burton were crap but after today I don,t think that was the case I now think it,s the red men playing good stuff that makes the opposition look crap.
on stanley on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: Port Vale Thread
What a crazy old day...
Match report - ASFC News Story > 3938 Coley reaction - ASFC News Story > 3939 Apologies for any errors in there. Will amend accordingly later! It did kick off at the end. The Vale fans protesting at the board, players and manager. Made the usual Stanley drama look tame! Home time now Dan |
Re: Port Vale Thread
Well I must admit im beginning to run out of superlatives for Coley & The Lads.
I thought it was our best performance of the season, yes Port Vale are a club with many off the field issues, but make no mistake they can be a very good side on their day, as we found out twice this season already. In particular Joyce and Hessey where superb. Roll on Tuesday at Gresty Road!!! |
Re: Port Vale Thread
What a game, I honestly thought at half time, the referee was going to award the win to Port Vale, he was that crap. Every soft tackle the reds made, he blew for a foul, yet PV doing the same was not???? About the only decision he got right was the red card for Rigg for leading with his forearm straight into Sundbed's head. To be honest, both sets of fans were singing the same song summat about not knowing what he was doing!!!! Nice to see nearly 2,500 on today and even the scoreline was excellent and to be fair, although PV played an attacking game, we managed to get through for the 2nd and 3rd goals after they went down to 10. I have never seen anything like it when the PV fans kicked off against their own manager. Jim Gannon aint their favourite person at the moment. Saw him being escorted out of the stadium by our security guys.
Hoping for a similar result at Crewe and Aldershot in the next week. |
Re: Port Vale Thread
Thought Craney had an excellent game today...arguably his best since returning. Instead of just his one moment of brilliance, he gave us that AND really got amongst the action for the rest of the game, too. Onwards to triumph! :Banane09:
|
Re: Port Vale Thread
Just a minor point but we have now surpassed 50 points. Well done reds
|
Re: Port Vale Thread
Any impression if Vale brought a large following, or have the good folks of Accy woken up to the fact we might just have a bit of a team this season ? Either way, extra turnstile cash is welcome.
|
Re: Port Vale Thread
Excellent win and a great performance, especially Craney who dominated the midfield and oozed class today, he should have been man of the match IMO. I am glad we aren't Port Vale fans, what a bunch of fickle morons they are, fair enough their team aren't doing well at the minute but the fans behaviour leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
I hope with a good few games to come that we start to utilise our squad to help rest some of our players, we have a very good squad so lets use it. |
Re: Port Vale Thread
I must admit to carry on like they did was abit OTT but it does show they have passion.
Yes we have a squad, but why change a winning team ?? I wouldent |
Re: Port Vale Thread
Well done Stanley.
I have also for the last 35 years also supported what is currently a League One side with many times your average gate and wage bill. I think the reason you wont play them next season is not that they wont get relegated but the fact that you might well overhaul them. You already have in terms of your performances on the field. |

It's a shame Stanley couldn't get their games in hand out of the way ( and win them of course ). I think when they actually get in to the play off places more people will take notice and go along to see what the fuss is :) |

Re: Port Vale Thread
A good all round performance, three points, three goals and another clean sheet
What I really enjoyed today it was at times a dig deep performance which was workmanlike from back to front. At times some players go missing which you would expect but this was different a team we normally struggle against we more than matched and there was a gritty resolve to be first to everything. That can be the difference between outside the mix or being well and truly in it! Well done to Coley & the Team keep going:) |
