Stanley throw level with 18 yard box.

Charlie Barnett with a thunderous drive when the ball bounced back to him 18 yards out saved by Taylor.

Its all over. 0-0

Ah well, not the win we hoped for but still a clean sheet again & a point so musn't grumble sitting at 10th. :)

Well done Lads, keep it rolling & the dream a smouldering !

Thank you the Commentary crew.

Re: Crewe Thread

I have no idea how but its finished 0-0 Stanley more than deserved a point and will have a great case to put forward for earning all 3.

They have found Vale 'keeper Rhys Taylor in fine form and a assistant referee seemingly too nervous to give a big decision to the away side. McConvilles strike on 12 clearly bounced down over the line but nothing given.

Stanley had at least five good chances to put the ball in the net but when the dust settles the concerns will turn to Terry Gornell stretchered off injured.

Thoughts of Coley to follow.

Re: Crewe Thread

cracking game and we could well have buried the points, but Crewe are no mugs at home and that was a good point. Loud and proud in the stands

shakermaker 22-03-2011 21:00

Re: Crewe Thread

I'm sure Coley won't see it this way immediately but tonight we earned a very good and probably very valuable point away from home. Crewe have been as mega at home as we have over the past few weeks.

Hope Gornell is OK & isn't kept out for too long.

Well done Reds.

Coley thoughts to come but just to let you know that Terry's injury is a gash below the knee. He has had 6 stitches and will be assessed over the next few days for Saturdays game.

Good news on Gornell, it looked bad as he went down and stayed down... thought the worst when he went off.

Re: Crewe Thread

Couldn't believe it when the ref played on after McConville's goal. It looked well over from where we were. Sean had a great first half, by the way, really getting stuck in too, which I haven't seen from him before. Yet again we don't hit the target from great positions - very frustrating, but still a good performance.:)

Do you mean spelling 'have' with an 'o' and an 'f'?

And, as well as not knowing that it's a goal when the ball crosses the line, the liner on the far side wasn't up to scratch with the offside rule, either.

Re: Crewe Thread

Best 0 - 0 game i have seen for a long time. Both teams trying to get the ball down and play on the deck.
Acci should have taken all 3 points, they had numerous clear cut chances,Gornell, sean, jimmy, craney, and jacobson all should have scored.
Positives, another sound defensive display, goalkeeper was again first class when called on and some of the passing was prem class.
Thought Joyce worked hard again and links the team well.
Negatives, thought Craney and Jimmy were a bit hit and miss tonight, maybe fatigue is now catching up with one or two,but then again 0 - 0 is an improvement on last seasons 5 -1 defeat

Re: Crewe Thread

Massively 1 sided, score should have been about 6-1 with all the chances.

Cisak yet again looked solid, his 1 on 1 save was class.

Other than that the defence never looked troubled to me.

Fingers crossed Terry will be back on Saturday, as we are very short of quality up front on the bench.

Only down side for me unfortunately was Craney who quite frankly had a shocker, especially in the 1st 45 mins.

BUT its another point gained, and fingers crossed we can take all 3 on Saturday

Re: Crewe Thread

From a crewe fan

"As I have already said, Accrington proved last night that they have a good chance of making the play-offs. Fitter, quicker to the ball than the Alex, playing with confidence and eager to shoot on sight and with 6 of their final 10 games at the Crown Ground, they must fancy their chances. What a difference a year makes, when you consider the thrashing we gave them 11 months ago. How they have progressed in that time, whereas it certainly looks as if we are now on the decline once again"

WE ARE GOING UP... I BELIEVE. DO YOU???

Re: Crewe Thread

a few Crewe fans on the messageboards reckoned it was justice as McConville handballed when he controlled it, you cant tell off the footage though.

carpon 23-03-2011 23:57

Re: Crewe Thread

Whilst a good point away from home, looking at that footage it should have been three. Shame there wasn't a Russian linesman at Gresty Road last night:(

As for handball, the footage is indecisive though, with the defender seemingly barging McConville forwards into the ball before he turned to shoot, I think any contact would have been ball to hand rather than vice versa.

Hope it doesn't cost us come May, be it a play off spot or better !!!:o

We didn't need a Russian linesman, just one who could see.

sparkie 24-03-2011 07:58

Re: Crewe Thread

I have to say the ball did look over the line but it was travelling at some pace! Having said that the liner should have been pretty much level seeing as the shot came from about three yards out. Poor, but these things happen. I bet Bencherif wont score another goal like that in the rest of his life, nice finish!!

maccawozzagod 24-03-2011 21:03

Re: Crewe Thread

Todays Telegraph had Jimmy Bell saying that he and Coley have watched the video and it was definitely a goal, but The Observer has Coley saying that it didn't cross the line? puzzled.

Can only think that Coley is trying his Ferguson Jedi mind tricks on someone, but can't work out who or why!!!

The Observer probably couldn't hear him properly being all the way over in Rochdale :)

On a side note are there any colossal local news stories that can possibly rival last weeks "Man Keeps Burnt Pie For 40 years"? :)

Fantastic, the local paper is run off a market stall
