Re: Todays Game
As one of the Accy based fans I stood with said - thats the first time the team haven't come to the fans at the end of the game to acknowledge the time & brass spent to cheer them on. They didn't dare - outclassed by 10 man Farnborough and left hoping a shot launched on the wind might penetrate their defence. The only time we penetrated was early on when PM got thru 1 on 1 and instead of shooting from the edge of the area, decided to take it to the byline and square to a recovered defence. One point from the last 3 games - will we be in the top half of the table after the Oct / Nov fixtures ? The Stanley fans felt let down by an unacceptable performance today. Bring back Lutel !

Re: Todays Game
Discraceful performance today.......Not happy

Re: Todays Game
The manager has gone into his shell like a frightened tortoise. The teams selected and systems used are blatantly defensive and give the initiative away to the opposition before a ball is kicked. There is no width without Rory or Lutel in the side. Why haven't we sent for Carvill who looked pretty good pre-season? This, plus the wretched situation re the excellent Jonathan Smith, are eroding our chances of a successful season. How many more games must Williams be picked to play before it's recognised he's an impostor at centre back?
|
Re: Todays Game
Williams never played at CB yesterday..........
|
Re: Todays Game
I say, sub Robbie, with Smithy and give him an extended run in the side IMHO a far better player. But there again JC will decide, lets hope he reads this and other threads re JavaScript

Re: Todays Game
I didnt go to the game yesterday, but its frustrating to see Paul Mullin, game after game on his own up front. Why not play 2 up front? Last weeks game against Gravesend we started off with that formation. I agree it has been successful upto a point with the excellent Craney feeding off Mullen, but what if Mullen gets injured? Evil in that position maybe? I think he should play Evil and Mullen up front together at home at least. The defence seems so unsettled lately with loan players coming in and out. I dont see the lads training so I cannot comment on their committment in training, but why not, Cavanagh, Flynn, Smith, Howson? (I thought Bimson played well up to a point before he left). Midfield I would play: Lutel on the wing, with Brannan, Craney and Jagielka in there also. I would play a fit and interested Rory possibly but i dont know who i would drop. Up front Evil and Mullen. Why doesnt Evil play up front these days? (maybe he played there yesterday, I dont know)
I think that we have excellent potential and we will do well this season. I just worry if we get any injuries :( to key players we might struggle.. |
Re: Todays Game
I agree with Rossendale Red on the formation, maybe not the line-up, but the formation and tactics at home and against weak away sides,e.g. Farnborough yesterday,
We have got to attack more at home and against the poorer teams in the league because we have players in the team who can score bags and bags of goals so why not use this and play 4-4-2 in these games. Against tougher teams the 4-5-1 formation works a treat but when we play this against lower sides and at home this could be a disadvantage........As proved yesterday. |
Re: Todays Game
the 4-5-1 formation is good but Coley is playing the wrong players it should be:
Jon Kennedy Cav Flynn Smithy Howson Jaggers Brannon Craney Rocky/Howarth Carvill Lutel Mullin needs a rest he can't manage upfront on his own all the time he needs somebody with him to play his best game. |
Re: Todays Game
If your playing 4-5-1 you can't play a defender in midfield as provern yesterday or play Lutel up front on his own.
The whole point of a 4-5-1 formation is for the striker to hold the ball up for midfielders making attacking runs. Lutel unfortunately cannot hold the ball up. |
Re: Todays Game
What's all this moaning for, we are in sixth place.
When I made bad comments after the Stevenage game I was told to stop moaning - we are second in the league - what more do you want. Well we are now sixth in the league. Are people starting to agree with me - I don't believe it. |
Re: Todays Game
Stop moaning and looking for support Jeff. If we had a defence we'd be dangerous! ;)

Re: Todays Game
Tin Monkey - If you can't find anything constructive to say then please don't post sarcastic comments aimed at me. It's not me that is looking for support. If it's raining tomorrow we will be lucky to have 1000 at the match.
Anybody know what was wrong with Lutel on Saturday ? |
Re: Todays Game
Jeff - if I didn't post sarcastic comments then I wouldn't have anything to post at all! :D
P.S Due to lack of smilies I wasn't sure if you were joking or not, so I'll assume you were. My post was very much tongue-in-cheek, just in case you missed the wink. |
Re: Todays Game
Hi folks
Don't come on the message board and moan to often but after travelling 11 hours on a coach on Saturday I feel I have a right to have a moan. It was a disgrace. For any of the lucky ones who didn't travel to Farnborough we turned into the Wimbledon of old on Saturday. Time and time again aimless punts up field in hope that Paul (Who ran his socks off, as always) would get on to the end of them. Farnborough's 1st goal was a shot from about 30 yards. Good strike but I think Kennedy will be a little disappointed he didn't keep it out. Stanley started a little brighter second half and when we decided to PASS the ball we looked like we might get something from the game. Penalty came and the feeling was we could possibly sneak a winner. But after the ref adjudged a penalty against Cav (NO comment cos I was at the other end of the ground) we decided to go back to the long ball game which was hopeless. It's a sorry sight when Farnborough who finished in the bottom three last season are singing "Can we play you every week ?" And just to top it all off, at the final whistle only two of the Stanley players AND management came over and applauded the Stanley fans for travelling the 5 hour journey to watch there team. So to Paul Mullin and King Craney I applaud you back. It's about time, SOME of the players started having a long hard look at themselves. |
Re: Todays Game
Can't agree with you more cocker dee, Would like to add someting to that but don't think i can as you have said it all. Nowt worse though when people don't go and still slag certain people off, How is that possible.

Re: Todays Game
I have to say it is one of my pet hates that.. When players dont come over... OK they had a bad game and are upset.... well excuse me but they got paid.. we spent money not made money. They had a bad game.. everyone knows that so dont accuse me of knocking them plase...... But the fans there still applauded them off the pitch.. no booing or discontent.. they clapped them off.. yes even the ones that turned there backs and walked away.
|
Re: Todays Game
I must agree. Well done supporters - not one booing for a disgraceful performance, just encoragement. Was this performance worse than Stevenage - I think so. At the end of the game Evil did not take any notice of the supporters but was too busy hugging and joking with Farnborough's No 3 who was only half his size but still managed to shove him off the ball more than once. No pace, nothing up front, no chance of scoring except from a set piece. Very disappointing after a long drive.
Has the Club made a statement as to Rory's injury ? Has the Club explained Lutel's absence on Saturday ? Why are the supporters not kept up to date as to what is happening ? |

Re: Todays Game
we are still awaiting the results from the consultant regarding rory's injury, when we find out we shall happily make a statement.
there is nothing to explain with regards to lutel's absence, only the 16 players selected in the squad travelled down on friday evening, paying hotel and meal bills for players who only come down to watch is a waste of money and so we do not do it. we do attempt to keep supporters up to date with the latest news, and also answer all queries that are directed at us, either in person, by phone, post or email, or on the message board. best regards rob |
Re: Todays Game
Thanks for that explanation. I deduce from the explanation that Sean Tuck was preferred to Lutel who obviously wasn't selected. We only came to life against Gravesend when Lutel came on the field, then he was dropped for Bradford and not even in the squad for Farnborough. Are his days numbered at Stanley ?

A rhetorical question, Jeff! After all the recent highs this is a bit of a low that feels worse than it actually is. Keep the faith............... |
Re: Todays Game
look, I know I'm old and never made it past inter-schools level - but isn't it common sense that if your front men are in the main vertically challenged that you don't pump high balls from open play. Surely you get your little fast ferretts round the back to cross. Both at Farnborough and Stevenage their big lads at the back soaked up the high stuff all day - no problem. PM and McE are the only open play forwards of reasonable height - so learn to keep it on the floor Stanley.

Re: Todays Game
