Re: Late Late Southend United Thread
Plus points:-
Murdoch in goal looks like the answer to our prayers. Proccy was again 110% all action. Deano did fine. McIntyre has a great free kick on him. Taylor is a breath of fresh air. Guthrie shows great promise. Minus points:- Craney and Lindfield were terrible. Joyce's distribution was awful, though he worked his socks off. McIntyre lived up to his reputation as a hothead. The rest were average/poor. |
Re: Late Late Southend United Thread
I think Redraine has just about summed it up.
The main difference for me is that last year playing the formation we do, we had Jimmy, Sean and Craney/Barnett/Putterill helping Gornell up front. This year we have Lindfield and an unfit Craney. Theres your answer in my opinion. Feel abit sorry for Guthrie, he's only a young lad, but if he has no help then what can he do?? On the plus side........... as redraine says, Murdock looks class in goal, Nat Taylor looked superb for me today. Only his second ever game and his touch and pace will certainly be an asset this season. Both of their goals where defensive errors, surely it would be an advantage to put an experienced head like Hessey in the middle???? We could have been 5-1 down at Half Time, fair play to Southend, their left winger ripped us to shreds in the first 45 minutes. Just a shame we cant see Coid in action in the near future. Make no mistake Coley & Bell have a massive task on their hands this season. 2 or even 3 forward's / attacking midfielders needed for me ASAP ! |

Re: Late Late Southend United Thread
Lindfield was most certainly not terrible. In fact he was one of the few (along woth Procter, Joyce and Winnard) to make any impact today. Craig managed to break a good few times but had no outlay option. All the rest were absent. Kern Millar was the one that had a NIGHTMARE today.
It's admirable attempting to play 'football the right way' but this year we do not have the quality to do so. I say drop the 4-2-3-1 and go 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 as that's the only way we're going to score this season. |
Re: Late Late Southend United Thread
Not many positives from yesterday's performance a few individual sparks but...
In essence as others have said we are playing a system which worked wonderful last season the difference now is we at times look like a team that just met and are trying to get to grips with the system. Too many off days yesterday with wayward passing, link up play not happening enough, the ball not sticking when it did go forward which made it far to easy for the opposition to clear their lines and be first to the ball putting us straight on the back foot as well as looking nervous. It is still early days and maybe too early to be pressing the panic button just yet and there are rumours of possible players coming in that could change the style of our game? At least it's only a couple of days before hopefully we can put it right against the Bantams.:) |

I'd just like to add that Nat Taylor fully deserved his Man of the Match award as he was the only one who showed attacking promise, made space and created chances. If it's true about what Coley said about him winning the award on Radio Lancs post-match, I'm pretty disgusted with the gaffer. |
