Good stuff Dan, cheers for those. Louis seems a canny chap, looking forward to seeing him play.

I get the feeling we'll see a totally different Stanley today, hopefully with the debut of Coid (Stanley Legend) and a team that is hungry to right the wrongs of last week.

A Morecambe fan said on another forum that the worst time to play Stanley is after a battering.

Re: Burton Thread

Stanley line-up: (4-2-3-1) Murdoch, Winnard, Long, Hessey, McIntyre, Joyce, Procter, Fletcher, Craney, Coid, Amond

Not impressed with McIntyre over Murphy but hey ho. Come on Accy. Right I best get a jog on...

MikeA 27-08-2011 14:16

Re: Burton Thread

BBC:
'7:24 Sean Hessey is penalised for a handball. Kevin Long takes the free kick.'

Re: Burton Thread

And that'll do it.

Pretty dull game, neither side really got into it and the atmosphere wasn't the best the Crown ground has seen - attendance of ~1300

Good goal by Fletcher for the winner against a team that game playing for a draw.

Good result, looking forward to the informed analysis :) from those of you who were there ....

cashman 27-08-2011 16:27

Re: Burton Thread

good result against what i regard a useful side, thought McIntyre was at fault fer the Burton goal, backing off n gave him acres of space, Fletcher scored a real cracker, n look forward to the partnership wi him n the new paddy who looked very useful n i thought probably deserved MoM. Coid was ok, but suspect very injury prone.:eek:overall the second half performance looked promising.:)

smudgie 27-08-2011 17:16

Re: Burton Thread

Well I said I was 100% confident the lads would give a more committed performance and that's exactly what we got.

Thought Proccy covered every blade of grass out there today and was my personal MOM.

Fletcher, 1 chance, 1 goal, says alot about his finishing quality.

Thought Coid wasnt fully fit, but still put in a good shift, will be some player once he's 100% and fully firing.

Almond looked half decent up front, nice to have a few options up there :)

Thought the game itself could have gone either way, but a win is a win as they say.

Well done Coley and the lads.

There's a decent report on Burton's site:
Burton Albion | Match | Match Report | 27 August 2011, Accrington Stanley 2 - 1 Burton Albion

Redraine 27-08-2011 18:23

Re: Burton Thread

Not to take anything away from Joyce, who had a great game, but I do agree with Smudgie about Proccy, who gave a true captain's performance and looked like he would have gone through a brick wall to get that ball. I thought Fletcher missed 2 reasonable chances in the first half, but 1 out of 3 is damn good anyway, and his link-up play with Amond looks like developing into something special. I don't know what Coley said at half time, but in the second half we looked a different team and always looked to me like we could get the win. Well done, Coley, using his subs to keep the momentum going. He seems to have turned over a new leaf from last season. I thought Charlie made a difference when he came on, with good ball retention and making some telling passes. If he can keep that going for a full 90 minutes I would prefer him to Craney, who once again looked a shadow of his former self. Can't imagine why Coid wasn't playing full back, though - he was brilliant at both left back and right back at Morecambe, but what do I know? We seem to have some good options all over the pitch now, especially with the new arrivals still to bed in, and I don't know about Guthrie and Taylor being injured - they were doing some serious sustained sessions around the pitch perimiter before kick off. Made up for Deano! Does he always score against Burton? :D

cashman 27-08-2011 18:43

Re: Burton Thread

agree wi smudge n redraine, proccy gave a real captains performance no doubt, but thats his job.;)

Re: Burton Thread

Was interested how it would go today, changing our formation, two new debutants, fletcher playing in the three etc..and it went ok.
Make no mistake, there not a bad team, and are very strong in the forwards.
Thats why i thought Long was my m.o.m ,despite getting done for the goal(good arcing run by richards).
As the game panned out,it was like a game of chess, both sides probing and creating half decent chances.
Couple of things that didnt work for me,when proccy was moved into the three,he seemed lost and Craney was clearly not 100% fit.
Liked the look of Coid(who wasnt 100% fit),so a big rap for the other lads who worked hard to fill in the gaps.
Centre forward did well for his first start, running the channels and creating space for others.
Deano scored and played a 50 yard pass for the winner,so i better mention him!!!,but it was a great finish from fletcher, who grew into that role as the game progressed.
Finally,i think three words some up were we are at,following the comings and going this season, "work in progress!",just keep the faith:)

Pendle Red 27-08-2011 18:48

Re: Burton Thread

We huffed & puffed first half and got cut apart with a neat through ball which should have been covered.

Second half there was much more of a cutting edge with Amond & Fletcher working the channels really well and pushing onto the Burton back four, superb ball from Deano for Wes's goal and what a cracker it was neat take & a great finish that eluded both defender & keeper.

More positives with the return of Danny Coid who if he can stay fit will be a big player for us this season, good performances all over the pitch and a really good result and well deserved one in the end against a decent footballing side.:)

Apologies that he appears to be looking off to the side - I was chief cameraman and interviewer today and didn't want to dig holes in Buzzer's lovely pitch with the tripod!

Enjoyed my day out at Accrington as always, apart from the result that is.
A pretty lacklustre game, you probably deserved it after what I assume was a bit of a rollicking by Mr Coleman at half time

We'll learn to hold on to a lead one of these days.

Good luck for the rest of the season

I have to agree with Smudgie about Proc, he was immense yet again yesterday and it was at times only he who had any urgency about him!!! :)

Thats a good point about Charlie when he came on.nice composure, let the ball do the work, and looked up for it.
Was fearing he may have a strop on,but he didnt and looked class.

Interesting to see Guthrie wasnt even in the squad yesterday.... needs to learn a bit about the way football is played at this level and i think he can do well. Got a good amount of attacking options in the side now aswell once it all settles

And that we did :) Everything's been said already here football-wise.

I'd just like to ad that beating Burton Albion will never, ever get old for me.

agree wi that, fer me the kid has potential, but certainly needs to learn his trade at league level n hopefully realise it.;) twas a big step up fer one so young imho.

interesting to see what you lads say about Guthrie - just hope that if potential continues to be shown Stanley will extend his contract before any danger of predators offering big bucks to him. Looking forward to the day that finances allow John 'n Jimmy to take this sort of decision if they so choose.

Just thought was worth a mention, in spite of all the rain we had this this month, thought the pitch looked great,in fact best ive ever seen it, Well done to all involved.:)

You must be a mindreader cashy!!,the pitch is first class now,top marks to those involved, and makes for a better game.
PS what happened to the ultras flags??,someone lost the shed key?:)

Re: Burton Thread

Went to match and was quite heartened by improved display.:) I liked the play of the two lads up front, Fletcher and Amond.:) Both put in a lot of effort similar in some ways to the efforts of Gornell last season. These two could be even more effective because they were encouraged to play as a "two" up front rather Gornell as a lone front man. Coley and Jimmy have tried one or two combinations in the defence and up front but I do have hopes that the pattern of the team is now shaping up nicely. It will be hard to match the super passing football of last season which, in truth, did take a couple of seasons to develop but there are signs of better, slicker teamwork already. The lads who stayed from last season have started to show confidence in the new players and it could well be that the mangers are turning the corner again and seem to have the seeds of another good team.:egged: They have done it so many times, I have the faith and belief that they can do it again. Give it time and keep on supporting the team that now wear the Red and White of Stanley this season.:mosher: Last season is history already and of course we should be proud of the acievements but now we must look to the future. Sing, shout, wave the flags and blow the horns to show our support and lets prove all the doubters wrong once again.:tongueout Come on Stanley.:tongueout

Cashy, Accy Aggro and a.n.other (sorry can't remember and can't be bothered going back to see). I was under the impression that Guthrie was out injured hence the reason he has not been in the team for a couple of weeks (Hamstring I think).

football19 30-08-2011 09:27

Re: Burton Thread

I think hes training again, but will do well to force his way back into the team,as the new lad and fletcher looked good, and theres no reserve team games to shine in.
He just has to show a good attitude and bide his time, and when his chance comes again, grab it !!!
