Lost in Cornwall 22-02-2012 10:38

Re: One Man Army

I too began watching football in the time when Stanley weren't there and actually went to the Rovers one week and Burnley the next, supporting both clubs except when they played each other when I was definitely a Rovers fan. I fell out of love with football in the late 1980's but in 2003 my sons took me to watch the Rovers at Leicester and I couldn't have cared less who won. A few months later, living in Buckinghamshire at the time, I decided to go and watch the Stanley at Barnet and as they say the rest is history. A 0-0 draw but I was desperately looking at my watch for the last 15 minutes just like the old days. Went regularly to away matches in the South east until I moved to Cornwall. Don't get much chance to see them now and the change of date of the Torquay match has stopped me getting to that one but if I'm asked now who I support there's only one answer and it's got be the Stanley.

Diego has asked me to post that he will be in the Crown from 7:30pm tonight (Wednesday) if any fans would like to say hello.

John Alty a former Stanley chairman chairman put me off going to Stanley when he slagged league football off after having his wallet nicked at a Rovers v Man City game. Little did he expect Stanley getting back into the league. I have been on The Crown Ground once this season, to watch the mighty Scunthorpe beat you in the League Cup. They were my dads team, and the first result i look out for on a Saturday afternoon. I even had a spell of going over to Scunny when Rovers had no match on Saturdays

Typical Murdoch rag, cannot even get their facts right, Diego has stated in the Observer "that he hopes to return to watch Stanley play at the Crown in the future". Good luck to the lad, and I hope he does, now which team has world wide support from NZ to Brazil? And how about arranging a pre-season kick about with Flamenco?:D

Great to meet up with Diego on Wednesday evening and talk Stanley whilst also debating South American football in general, hope he enjoys the rest of his stay.

Great stuff by the Club (Rob Houseman) in arranging for him to be shown around and meeting the players, things like that make you appreciate more the friendliness that sometimes goes unnoticed and perhaps is taken for granted with the Club but is more the reason it helps make it more special.:)

Hey everyone,

Apologies for bumping a really old thread but I thought it was better than creating a new one right now.

I wonder if you people remember me - in 2012 I came to England on vacations, watched Stanley play away at Crewe and then went to Accrington to visit the club. I was introduced to the then manager (Cook), the players and the staff. My interview in the Accrington Observer ended up on the national newspapers! I still have a piece of the Daily Mirror back home with my picture on it.

Anyway, I'm coming back to the forum (my last login had been back in 2012!) to say that I'm now living in the UK for a year. I'm a student at the University of Liverpool, where I'm doing their MBA in Football Industries, and I've already gone to Accrington twice this season, to watch the L2 game vs Plymouth and the FA Cup win over Luton Town this past weekend.

I took a couple of friends with me (one Mexican, another Peruvian) who both loved the experience and tell me they're Stanley fans from now on. We even took a picture on the pitch at half-time - not sure if those who were there noticed this.

Well, I just wanted to say 'hello' again, wish Stanley the best of luck for the rest of the season, and I'll probably be back at some point to watch a few other matches. I wish Tranmere were still in L2 though, as it would be quite easy for me to watch a game there, since I'm living in Liverpool.

Welcome back, Diego, and welcome to your mates. Hope you all get to a few more of Stanley's games. Good luck with your studies.
