Didn't Mr T say summat about "a favourite with the ladies" - this Karl lad doesn't seem to fit the bill and flight time between RH's tweet and "just touched down" doesn't fit either. Being restricted to games within range of my pension down south, I don't know if Podge was/is a ladies favourite at the Crown.

we have 22 signed up already and those two additions make 24. Not being funny or nowt but that should be enough - we can loan others if we need to. Just cos its a new manager doesn't mean we can start chucking money around again on having a team and a half sat in the stands

Im also amazed by the worship of Podge by some

No doubt he gives 101% effort and seems a great lad, but 42 League games and 7 goals............... for a striker is simply not enough, I dont care how much he tries.

Will need to improve dramatically for me if he is to command a place in the side.

Didnt Cooky say he is offering more contracts with bonus extras, rather than payin to sit in stand...Maybe loan Carver, Stockdale etc out?

I've heard that a few of our " homegrown " may get loan moves in the coming weeks....and NO...i'm not willing to say from who or where I've heard said information.....:o

All I will say.....It makes sense if those young lads aren't going to be appearing in the first team squad...for them to go and get some game time where they will be playing first team football !!!

My only concern.....and I hate to be the "harbinger of doom" nor the negative voice of reason.....Alan Hansen once said " You can't win now't with kids"....

He was talking Premier League about Man United's "golden era generation"...They (that set of kids and golden generation of footballers) suprised all the pundits!!! They were GREAT WORLD CLASS PLAYERS !!! League Two is a different place. Bookies don't give money away....Our odds reflect their opinion ( and the general opinion ) of our chances....

We confounded the odds season upon season under Coley...Long may that continue under Cooky.....I'll settle for mid table to lower top half this term....IF we manage to tie up our better performers from this coming season for next season (2013-14) on longer term deals...

We used to be happy with avoiding relegation from league 2.....Coley always somehow managed to confound the "critics" (for that read pundits / bookies . experts ) Let's not lose sight of the fact that, given our attendances & resources we'll always be bookies favourites for the drop !!! Cooky is sowing the seeds to hopefully kick us on "progression wise"....

I'm not expecting miracles....If they happen....great...but my great hope is that if we do perform this season....the board have the sense to tie the young performers down to proper "long term deals"...meaning that when the eventual happens and they go onto bigger and better things....we as a club...get compensated accordingly.....

Crewe Alex have just got nearly 6 Million (in total) for a 19 year old !!! I'm not saying we'll get anywhere near that for one of our lads. But if we are about to enter an era of giving young lads a chance to prove themselves at this club... I hope the Board are prepared to back the manager and fight to get the best deal for the club....As a well known manager once said before....it's not the size of the dog ( the club ) but the fight within it!!!

I might have a sneaky couple of quid each way for us to get in the mix this season....(more in hope than expectation) though I still think that some experienced heads may change the equation....Warner ( rumoured to be signing ) ...does anyone know what is / or has happened to Bryan Hughes??? A quality forward ( with years and nous ) and an experienced Centre Half (of similiar experience ) and suddenly we've experience down the spine....

I'm looking forward to this season......My wish is for a relatively safe season ( no flirting with relegation ) and to do Rochdale twice !!!! I haven't forgiven Coleman for the " be careful what you wish for " comment....to me...it was if he now thinks he's bigger than us....fact remains....they're now League 2 and on a par....I hope we trounce 'Dale twice just to rub his nose in the mire.:D

Luke Joyce is the oldest outfield player that we have .... he turned 25 last month.

I'd much rather have a team of youngsters trying their best to 'put themselves in the window' than a seasoned pro on his way down the leagues at the end of his career, but we all saw the difference that Bryan Hughes made when he joined. That's my only concern with this unexpectedly large squad of players.

He is signing for Rotherham aparently.

Dont agree at all Rob, he was by far our best player last season and was the sole reason for our playoff push over xmas and into the new year.

Yes he was unlucky when he popped his hamstring, but you speak to the players and ask them how good he was.

Would have him back tomorrow.

Cooky has said he is looking to loan a few players out (Carver, Dixon etc) so would trim the squad slightly.

I'd have him back tomorrow if we could get him on a contract that doesnt break the bank!

Big call that smudgie.

He gave the team something they lacked in the final third -- real quality, which you would expect from a former prem league player.

IMHO,defensively is wasnt the best, and considering two thirds of games you are contesting for possession or dont have the ball i am unsure.

Loved watching him play tho,so i will sit on the fence on this one

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

I'm not saying he wasn't a good player, and I'm not saying that we have better players already here - but we do have players already here so I wouldn't pay someone who 'technically' we don't need.

He was offered something and given a timescale to work to, he held out for better offers and we moved on and acquired other players.

Great player at our level but a club with our budget CANNOT afford the luxury of players whose hearts aren't in it and whose battery powered mobility scooters might give out any moment :hesoff:

This is what he said:

I had one or two contract offers earlier this summer but turned them down. At the age of 32 and with media opportunities beginning to come my way, I was thinking of retiring.

Ultimately, and especially watching the opening weekend of the season and knowing I'm still very much able to play a good standard of football, I regretted that decision. I got back in touch with the clubs but, having declined their offers in the first place, I learned they had made other plans.

The two offers I received were 80-90% less than what I earned last season but, given how I feel now, I would have taken that.

I would think we do need 1 more striker, the loan lad we may not have full season?

Any more strikers would have to be a loan anyway, unless they are unattached... ie Michael Owen :D

Liam Dickinson is not an all round gypo he's an all round dickhead and it would be a very sad day if he were to arrive at The Crown. Disruptive and egotistical...never in a million years!

Quality post....for that re-arrange nail,head,bang,hit,the,on...the!!!:D

I'd hope that the powers that be realize that.... if these young and hungry lads carry on performing, we're gonna have a main stand full of scouts and potential suitors before long......:(

As Smobile has said.....personally I'd give it to the end of October and start throwing new "longer term" contracts with improved conditions in front of the star performers.

And " IF " we do end up selling one of the better prospects, let's hope somebody has a bit more "nouse" when it comes to negotiating a deal for one of these lads.:(

For that....... read the terms of the Bobby Grant deal.....For me...he went to the wrong club ( I feel if we'd have held on a little longer...he'd have gone to a much bigger club for better money, terms and conditions) and we got well and truly stitched up on that one.....

I mean "X amount if Scunthorpe get promoted" and "X% of whatever profit Scunthorpe make on the original deal"....Unless Coleman has paid a club record Dale fee for Grant, then I don't expect this deal to be putting any more funds into the coffers.

As the Grant to 'Dale transfer goes...being another "undisclosed" I suppose we'll never know if we actually made anything further.:(

I know we'll always be a "selling club" and until gates improve dramatically ...finances probably dictate we sell to balance books....but to me there's a difference between "balancing books" and getting stitched up as far as fees received for our better players are concerned.:o

A difficult one to analyze admittedly RR...but in my opinion I think that Mab, in one of his more reflective moments is merely reminding us of the Stanley squad chosen to play Bristol Rovers earlier in the season !.....no sinister motives we should be concerned about...although I have noticed that he does have this regular fixation with attendance numbers !!.

I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the box and I'm on a lot of medication at the moment, but I'm still baffled. Why not show the team line up for our last win against Chesterfield, a mere couple of weeks ago? Can someone put me out of my misery or do I have to pm Mab?

The only thing I can draw from those line-ups is that we underestimated how big the loss of Atkinson was going to be. :o

or that 7 of the team that Leam inherited are still in the first team?

Alvin's and Macca's analyses may well have satisfied your curiosity a little RR...but a pm or a face-to-face on Saturday might well be necessary as he seems strangely reticent to come clean on this one !.
