James Beattie Player/Coach

Former England striker James Beattie is in talks over a player-coach role at League Two Accrington Stanley.
Free agent Beattie, 34, could link up with his former Blackburn team-mate Leam Richardson who is Accrington's manager.

Yes.

Observer says we are in talks with two strikers, 1 a loan player and the other a free agent - "fans will be pleased with them" says Leam.

Good signing I reckon

To me if Leam can bring in James Beattie what does that say as to his influence, connections and respect amongst football per se. Would totally surpass the Brett connections and be a huge shot in the arm to Stanley and elevate Leam to a different culture to that we previously had

Sorry but I have to get this off my chest.

The word is marque (pronounced mark) not marquee.

A marquee is a big tent or awning.

Marque means "Brand" as in the best quality you can buy.

Look the two words up in good dictionary. Nowhere is "marquee" defined as meaning anything other than a tent-like structure.

Even the papers get it wrong and it hacks me off!

I Feel better for that. Think I'll go for little lie down!

I've always took it as the big tent version just because (I assumed) you make a big song and dance about it and parade them around the circus tent. I think it makes more sense in the football world rather than a big brand signing

Hope it works out for JB, there are so many stories of big named players coing to the a*s*e end of the football league and the lack of working showers and poor facilities puts them off.

Thanks for that Tommy !!....Alfred.E. tells me that I really must end this overwhelming obsession with Pies of any size, shape, content or quality whatsoever, and concentrate on more pressing matters, like the problems and challenges met due to the varying heights of urinals found in the Men's comfort facilities of the various League Two grounds I have visited !...(AND the ones at The Crown seem to be higher up the wall each time I pay visit !)...
Still things could be worse !.....
Anyway returning to the thread...before some eagle-eyed moderator spots my meanderings...I don't know what he's said...but I agree with Cashy !.

If he was as good as it supposedly sounded he was (via the commentary on Radio Lancs tonight) , then I hope that the powers that be have somebody typing out Beattie's contract extension to at least the end of the season pretty damn sharpish. He could be the difference between an average season and a damn good one!!:o

And if the powers that be have any sense....I hope they've got ideas on extending some of the other lads contracts too. If we don't get success (i.e a promotion challenge) this season, then with a full season behind them, some of these lads will set League 2 alight next season !!! They've made the first step by appointing a very bright and promising young manager. Now give Leam the tools to finish the job.:o

I hope this great expanded board of ours are thinking proactively and thinking of the impact extended contracts for these lads can have.....promotion challenges...a cup run...bigger gates????

True enough. Im pretty sure we could have a forward pairing of Marradonna and Pele in their primes and the Accrington public would still decide that the episode of Bargain Hunt they are watching is too gripping to venture to the Crown. :) :D
