We can't legislate for injuries or suspensions so that's where the loan system will need to be utilised but otherwise we've got a decent squad. I'm not getting carried away with it although the defence does look tight this year.

I understand the thinking of less players but more quality, but you need the numbers IMHO , for training games etc.. Have any young ones been offered a deal??.
Although the defence looks sound enough, but its more or less last years players.
In midfield is hadfield better that Bocco,is Naismih better than moly,Is murph more effective than Linganzi.
Up top will Webber replace Jeffers/Beattie,will the young Burnleys lad be as effective as Podge??.
Still think we need at least four quality players to push on and better last seasons finish

That should come when Beats gets stuck into the loan market.Smaller squad, more appearances ,happier players.Plenty of quality shown so far.also there's no doubt the Stanley Squad is trimmer and fitter than I've ever seen and the season hasn't even started yet.

Beattie has been impressive so far.
Of course, the real test will come over the next 9 months when he will need to prove his tactical and man management ability, but so far so good.
He deserves our trust and time.

After watching the team in a few friendlies I have to say I am impressed with the players who we have at the minute. I would be happy if we signed Windass, Webber and Naismith. Webber would be a good replacement for Beattie and his experience would be useful to help develop Shay and Marcus.

I have a real positive feeling about the season coming up

I would have thought JB will register himself - as a useful impact sub at the very least, especially if we've got a winger who can sling in a few crosses ....

Happy that the general consensus is positive, we, who can't be there rely on you to keep us in the picture. Sounds like the new boss is building a quality squad. Looking forward to Tuesdays game, one of the lads on our team here is a nutty Oldham fan. I was at Liverpool to watch Liddle beat Stanley in '56, another great memory.

Re: The new squad

Got to agree with most comments with all the games seen so far, the squad if you include Webber & Naismith is virtually there which takes us to seventeen in numbers.

I would think ideally twenty is the number to be at with perhaps a few loanees making up the numbers there is always the balance of the budget to take into account.

Goals were always my biggest worry in terms of what we have lost but I have seen enough to convince me there are goals all over this squad.

Starting eleven is reasonable, but injuries etc..will kill our squad.
In reality we have lost;
Jeffers
Beattie
Linganzi
Moly
bocco
Rachubka
Barnett
Linney
Bohan
Eckersley
Chippendale
And at present only Atkinson has come in.
Last seasons numbers only just avoided relegation, and although sometimes a shake-up does the club good,i feel were well down on squad strength.
Maybe i have my negative head on,but a lot of good players have flew the nest !!.

I think potentialy the new signings make up for the loss of Beattie, Jeffers, Barnett, Linfield, Dixon, Eckers, Chippendale as they were generally squad players, but I still think we need some experience and quality to replace Linganzi Bocco & Moly who played a big part in last season.

Hopefully JB's contacts and use of the loan market can plug the gap

My own thoughts are whilst i was a big Bocco fan, Webber will more n adequately replace him.:)

From what I've seen so far he would be a quality addition to the team - the way he plays though I'm just not sure he'll score many goals. Hope I'm wrong again!!! :)

I agree I think we've got the making of a really good squad and I think our back 4 will be as good as anything in the league
