The new squad

Having watched both friendlies recently, I have got to say how impressed I am with the current fitness of the squad, and the total professionalism with the new set up.James Beattie is proving to be a real revelation and has obviously the respect of not only the squad but the whole Accrington Stanley organization.I can only see great things coming from this.......LETS HOPE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The new squad

Not the greatest performance today at Altringham, but another example of fantastic fitness and conditioning.A better second half showing, just a bit of fine tuning required.it's going to be tough on James Beattie on who to offer contracts ,all trialists showed potential.I think James Beattie is showing great maturity as the manager, hard to believe he's never managed a league game yet.Real excitement building at the possible prospects this season!

Re: The new squad

Yes, I agree.:mosher:

James Beattie is indeed looking the part as our new young manager. I like the way he talks on match interviews with his emphasis on values such as; players having good manners, working as a team, showing good fitness especially in the current hot conditions,:hothothot and players ringing him up wanting to come and play for the Stanley!

Also, he dresses professionally on match days, speaks with eloquence, commom sense and realistically. Hence he is setting a professional standard to the players and the rest of the staff.

Good luck James and to the squad and staff.
I really do hope that we get off to a good start to what could be a very promising season. ON STANLEY ON.:wave8:

Brilliant news :D

I'm thought that his wages at Fleetwood were a reason we wouldn't be in the market for him. It says a lot about James Beattie as a manager that he can attract such a good player given our meagre wage fund.

Thought Rob had been recalled by Fleetwood before the gaffer came to play ? Anyhow, well done JB for bringing Rob back. Only saw him once down south somewhere but saw enough to be disappointed when he was recalled to Codtown. I wonder if Dean will start at LB if Rob and Tom are to be the central pairing ?
Waiting not too patiently for news of wing/attack signings - pre-season can be tough on us Stanley nuts, can't it lads 'n lasses ?

Normally is, but this time don't seem half as tough in my view, seen some decent uns on trial, more actually than is usually the case, Reckon our new gaffer, sure has pull.;):)

Tell Dan "No you don't"; I not only remember him, I saw Billy Liddell play at Maine Road (very late 50s or very early 60s); I had in mind that it was a reserve game, and wiki does suggest, when I checked, that he did play the odd game for the reserves around that time ..........

And I'm not 80 ................Quite! :D

If reading between the lines is a reality and we sign Webber,Naismith,Windass and mingoia we have a very well knit and exciting squad with huge potential.James Beattie is certainly giving his all for Stanley and the loan market isn't even open yet what's James going to pull out of the hat then.Thank you James for the hope you have given this town. My husbands turned 80 and he was at Anfield in 1956 when liverpool beat Stanley 2-0 in fa cup. Liddle scored both goals. He reckons the crowd of nearly 50,000 must be the biggest Stanley ever played in front of.

After reading yesterdays programme/squads,i still think we are short on numbers.
Starting eleven is reasonable, but injuries etc..will kill our squad.
In reality we have lost;
Jeffers
Beattie
Linganzi
Moly
bocco
Rachubka
Barnett
Linney
Bohan
Eckersley
Chippendale
And at present only Atkinson has come in.
Last seasons numbers only just avoided relegation, and although sometimes a shake-up does the club good,i feel were well down on squad strength.
Maybe i have my negative head on,but a lot of good players have flew the nest !!.

looking at that list football19 you would only be looking at the top six to be in a matchday squad, the other would only be making up the numbers during the season

Also McCarten has been added, plus whoever beats adds before the season kicks off, if some of those trialists are signed, i fail to see why yer concerned Football19? The present defence to me is as good as ive seen at Stanley n the defence is always the starting point (or should be imho)

Re: The new squad

the problem with last years squad was that we had a good few who never got a look at the team as we had a largish squad. If the quality is there with the fewer players then at least they'll all get a decent rotation. We can't legislate for injuries or suspensions so that's where the loan system will need to be utilised but otherwise we've got a decent squad. I'm not getting carried away with it although the defence does look tight this year.

I understand the thinking of less players but more quality, but you need the numbers IMHO , for training games etc.. Have any young ones been offered a deal??.
Although the defence looks sound enough, but its more or less last years players.
In midfield is hadfield better that Bocco,is Naismih better than moly,Is murph more effective than Linganzi.
Up top will Webber replace Jeffers/Beattie,will the young Burnleys lad be as effective as Podge??.
Still think we need at least four quality players to push on and better last seasons finish

That should come when Beats gets stuck into the loan market.Smaller squad, more appearances ,happier players.Plenty of quality shown so far.also there's no doubt the Stanley Squad is trimmer and fitter than I've ever seen and the season hasn't even started yet.

Beattie has been impressive so far.
Of course, the real test will come over the next 9 months when he will need to prove his tactical and man management ability, but so far so good.

After watching the team in a few friendlies I have to say I am impressed with the players who we have at the minute. I would be happy if we signed Windass, Webber and Naismith. Webber would be a good replacement for Beattie and his experience would be useful to help develop Shay and Marcus.

I have a real positive feeling about the season coming up

Happy that the general consensus is positive, we, who can't be there rely on you to keep us in the picture. Sounds like the new boss is building a quality squad. Looking forward to Tuesdays game, one of the lads on our team here is a nutty Oldham fan. I was at Liverpool to watch Liddle beat Stanley in '56, another great memory.

Re: The new squad

Got to agree with most comments with all the games seen so far, the squad if you include Webber & Naismith is virtually there which takes us to seventeen in numbers.

I would think ideally twenty is the number to be at with perhaps a few loanees making up the numbers there is always the balance of the budget to take into account.

Goals were always my biggest worry in terms of what we have lost but I have seen enough to convince me there are goals all over this squad.

I think potentialy the new signings make up for the loss of Beattie, Jeffers, Barnett, Linfield, Dixon, Eckers, Chippendale as they were generally squad players, but I still think we need some experience and quality to replace Linganzi Bocco & Moly who played a big part in last season.

Hopefully JB's contacts and use of the loan market can plug the gap

Well I havent made any of the friendlies yet due to work, though I will be at Barrow on Saturday, lucky me.

But in my opinion and by all reports we have a fantastic looking squad for this time in the calendar. Add Windass, Webber & Naismith and maybe a couple of loans and we have the looks of a good squad.

I seem to remember after the playoff season having around 2 players signed up, how times change eh ;)

I think the problem he had, especially from January onwards was that we had Moly in his position.

But I agree, to play only 4 games and be released is pretty harsh.

Maybe there was something more too it......

I agree, we lack some metal in central midfield.

I'm also not overly confident on having no experienced reserve keeper should Dunbavin get an injury. Maybe Beattie would utilise the loan system if that did happen?

maccawozzagod 24-07-2013 16:47

Re: The new squad

I think it was always going to be Naismith OR Webber depending who wanted the most cash for being here. Webber's age means that we would unlikely get any sell on fee for him whereas Naismith we might. On the other hand it may also mean that we get to keep hold of him for the remainder of his career. If he's as good as his pedigree says then I'd take that.

On the evidence of his 45 minute cameo appearance in the Oxford game, absolutely not. He should be loaned out to get real match practice.

Bit harsh Revived !, the oxford game was always going to be a damp squid, and I felt for young Dawber. My only moan at Bav is he loves to kick the ball (probably one of the best at the club!),were young Dawber always looks to throw it first.
How many times do you see Bav catch the ball and race to the edge of the area for a quick throw??

From my viewpoint thought dawber did ok at Nelson n Darren, would have liked to have seen him given 45 mins against one of the Div1 clubs.

I haven't seen much of him, but in the Man U cup game last season he didn't impress me. Got caught out by high balls, but maybe he's grown since then!

I was not over impressed at that game, but then Man U didn't play 11 dummies, Think the lads come on a bit since then.

Exactly! Drives me mad, especially when his big kicks are usually snaffled by a giant defender.

"I was excited tonight to see Roberts and Morsey playing and also Jimmy Ryan who I had ranked 3rd of the 3 signings in my mind.

Sorry but Jimmy Ryan has the ability of Phil Robinson combined with the drive of Shaun Parrish. It was an absolute pleasure to see someone apply themselves with such a committed and quality performance.

How the hell was he at Accrington? He's got heart, technique, crazy tough tackling, vision, a powerful shot....he's like steven gerrard when he was good on acid.

I literally think this lad is the bees knees. Best centre mid to pull on a blue shirt since clingan."
Chesterffield fans creaming themselves about Jimmy!

Oh dear. Someone else who doesn't know the meaning of "literally". (Not you, of course, Redraine, but the snakefield chap you were quoting). I reckon he wanted to say, "I think this lad is literally the bees knees" but his "literal thinking" made it even worse. I just knew there would be a sting somewhere.:p

Don't remember, but the youngster definitely had a spell in goal, if not for all the match.

How can you believe that report? They can't even get the score correct! I'm damn certain Dawber was beaten by a high cross from the right in the first half.
