well, for what it's worth, I am one of the (so far) 2 to have voted No. It's not that I don't have "the balls", rather that I have a life outside AccyWeb unlike some on here ;)

Like it or not, in a lot of cases these players are young kids a bit starry eyed about playing football for a living. The clubs (not ASFC) are multi-million pound business run by very sharp businessmen.
Would you know how to negotiate a contract to best advantage? Would you buy a house (for example) without taking legal advice, when buying a house is a fraction of the worth of a premier league players wages?

So why should you expect someone like David Beckham or Wayne Rooney to operate without an agent?

And whether the club pay or the player pays, is a moot point. If the player pays, then the charge just gets added to the signing on fee, wages. Like someone says: ultimately the public pays.

If ASFC choose not to pay agents fees, that is our right. But then don't come on complaining that we haven't signed a big goalscorer

Well funnily enough i would be able to negotiate a satisfactory deal, Have been doing so since i was 15, but then whilst not claiming to be a genius, ive never been stupid.unlike some on here.:rolleyes: Buying a house, summat i'm doing at the moment, is a very poor comparison its something that must be done legally by most people, can only assume yeh have never done this? Most people have lives, Some have more time than others, due to ill health/retirement. n various things, But never mind oh arrogant one, yeh will get there some day.:rolleyes:

The problem with a lot of young footballers is that they aren't the sharpest tools in the box and do need help negotiating contracts, but instead of engaging one of the vultures they can go through the PFA who are always ready to help in any way they can ;)

I understand big league players might need an agent to negotiate signing on fee's, image rights, job fer t'bird in t'canteen etc but surely at league 2 level its a case of

"we'll give you £500 a week, you might play you might not"

"ok/get stuffed (delete as applicable)"

I don't think they are ALL vultures. In fact some do an excellent job for their clients...which is especially important in the lower leagues where an extra £50 can make all the difference. Most Prem agents however are thieving mercenaries.

However to me they are still a waste of money...if you have half a brain cell you can compare your worth to others and negotiate a suitable deal yourself. Or as jaysay says go to the PFA. Trouble is...too many today don't have that half a brain cell. :)
