Re: Charlie Sneddon

I have just checked the caption on the photo I posted and it says 1956/7 team.

I don't know where I got the 60/61 from.

Anyone aware of this site ?

Some pretty useful information on here, not sure how accurate it all is though. Most of the players names have links to them too.

Hubby and i believe the picture was taken at start of 55-56 season. The reason for this is, Jimmy Mason, pictured, only played a handful of games before he lost is place to Jimmy Anders who signed in 56, and for some reason, and we could be wrong, we think that Anders played against Liverpool in Jan.56.

Mason didn't really lose his place - it could be argued that he never had one! He played 4 games in the 55-56 season and 11 games in 56-57 (but 5 of those were as makeshift centre-half). Jimmy Anders signed in January 1957 a full year after the Liverpool game

Pretty certain the team is early 1956-57 season as Bob McNicol and Jimmy Mason only played a few games together during the start of that season. I have the same picture on a bubble gum card.

Ossy Kid has it right, the picture is from the 56-57 season - The Tranmere game at home on the 12th September

doesn't include competitive cup matches - only league matches. And some of those are wrong as well. Ian Craney is listed as having played 98 league games (inc sub appearances) when he made 100, but the FL had listed two Ian Craneys (one spelt wrong) playing one season and one of them played two of the others games! When this list was compiled it must have been whilst the error was still there - but only a fan compiling a proper list would have spotted it

Like i said, memories get distorted. Can you refresh our memories and tell us the player/players who played on the left wing from 55 until Jimmy Anders signed in 1957, apart from Mason. Who was the left winger at Liverpool?.

I was at Liverpool for the cup game and the team was McInnes, Ashe, Mcreadie, Sneddon, Harrower, Hunter, Cocker, Wright, Stewart, Dick, Scott. I could be wrong on Cocker and Scott they may have switched wings? Other left wingers at that time were, Norrie McReadie, Henderson and a good friend of mine Willie Millar but Bert Scott played most games on the left wing prior to Jimmy Anders.

Course if anyone has a program from that game I could be corrected.

I have a programme from that game (from eBay, I'm not that ancient!).

Will dig it out this weekend.

Can't remember a winger named Henderson. Was he from Scotland

Years ago I was delivering solvents to Rolls Royce at Hillingdon near Glasgow.
The chief security officer came to me after seeing Accrington on the tanker and told me he used to be the goalkeeper at Stanley. It turned out he was McQueen.
We had a good chat about the town and I pretended I knew a bit about Stanley.
The load wasn't due until the day after but McQueen arranged for me to unload that day so I could get back home, all because of our connections to Accrington.

Can anyone remember the home game against Hull City when Raich Carter played for them or the 3rd round cup game against Portsmouth with Englands Jimmy Dickinson playing.

There was also local interest that day. Tom Berry who was born in Clayton, was a regular in that Hull side. Also in later years, Niel Franklin played for Hull against Stanley at Peel Park after he came back from South America.

Thanks for all your input folks, Smobile is kindly going to bring a dvd up when he next ventures North, I have advised the family of this and also of Macca's advice to try Garth Dawson. Please keep posting if anything further turns up.
