BREAKING match referee Mark Brown has decided to postpone this afternoon's game with Burton following a lengthy pitch inspection

Ya just heard on radio lacs as we set off! Ref called it off at 2:05pm because of a 2foot wide patch of frost in front of the mainstand :(

Don't suppose The Crown pitch is wide enough to take 2 foot off either side and still be within the 'rules'?

According to Mab the radio said the ref called it off at 2.05pm, whcih give a minute or two was correct, it was published on the website at 2.05pm, there were a few journo's in the press box so they must have phoned it in.

If you get Buzzer to dig up the frozen area of pitch, put it in a matchbox and place it on the Exter pitch the game will be off ;)

Stop being so disrespectful.

Referees read message boards, the last thing the club wants is for one of its fans who is consistently full of hate, for no good reason decides to abuse a referee based on his name.

Disgraceful decision to call off so late apparently Hazzelbank did,nt want to play funny their top striker was unfit, will cost the club big time money wise. Why wait untill 2-05 to call it off only good thing was a coach full of Burton fans in Crown till after 4-00 good banter with them and they wer,nt happy their manager wanted the game off. I was at the club this morning at 10-30 ish did,nt look out wrong with pitch then so why wait so late this will cost big time apparantly 400+ burton fans today work that out.

There was a motion put to the FA by a referee's group for the home team to make the call with police advice - a decision to be made within 2 hours of kick off time.

While there was a risk of the home team calling the game off for their own advantage, it would save the away team and fans traveling to the ground and prevent undue pressure and threats being placed on the referee.
As the home team would suffer the financial loss for any cancellation, it was considered a suitable counter balance to prevent an unnecessary cancellations.

Can,t blame the club for lack off communication I was in the Crown and Will relayed the news to the fans inside at about 2-10pm which was,nt long after it had been called off if you want blame Jack Frost and the referee leaving it so late.

Re: Game off

Suprisingly there were still people coming in to the club shop at 2.45pm for programmes not knowing the game was off. I know Stanley crowds aren't great but the lack of people around at that time might just have given a clue. One bloke even said he wondered why people were all walking the other way up Livingstone Rd, sometimes you have to wonder :)

The Ref leaving it so late is totally to blame imho simple as.;) But Dav dont think so, so thats summat else i must be wrong about.

What about an announcement on the website that there'd be a pitch inspection at 1:30? The ref said he'd inspect at 1:30 when he arrived at 11:30. Instead we had a wall of silence which contributed to me believing that the match was never in doubt and I had a two hour wasted journey.

I realise that it's a fine balance and the club wouldn't want to discourage potential fans coming to the match, but keeping information from the fans is a step backwards in my opinion.

He had already inspected the pitch once. As far as I know his only concern was about the forecast if it was going to get colder.

You only need to see what went on after he called it off to get an idea of what everybody else thought the pitch was like.

One of the Burton staff who spoke to the referee on the pitch during the first inspection, then went off to unload the kit from the coach. They didn't seem to think there was a problem at that time.

Yes it's a fine balance, but if there is a real doubt the club have announced pitch inspections before.

Re: Game off

There should have been real doubt as Chubbyman posted at 12.44pm that the ref was concerned about hard patches and there would be a further inspection at 1.30pm.

The twitter posts were misleading at best, I wonder what the Burton fans thought of it and how many will have lost good will and not make a second trip? The fans should have been properly warned about the 1.30pm inspection as soon as it was known it was taking place to make an informed decision.

More respect from the club to the fans is needed.

Re: Game off

So if you've got a 2 hour journey to the ground, and you do know there is an inspection at 1.30, what do you do differently? Wait for the result of the inspection and turn up at half-time if the game is on, or cross your fingers and leave at 12.30 as usual?

The endless knocking of Stanley people (staff, management and players) who are almost certainly trying their best in pretty difficult circumstances, and come to that of anyone who tries to provide an opposing voice of reason, is really grinding me down lately. This website used to be fun to follow - these days its just getting vicious.

I'll tell what a lot of us from Burton thought about it.
The posts in the morning were completely positive about the game being on and there was no suggestion an inspection was needed. We drove up in bright sunshine with the temperature always above zero, as it was when we got to Accy.

I think it's laughable blaming "Jack Frost" when the weather was as decent, albeit cold, as it was on the day. One of the biggest frustrations is that we KNOW the game would have been on at our place because we have proper covers and groundstaff who bust their asses to get games on as a matter of professional pride.

The ref was yon at 11-30 inspected then, n said another at 1-30, which was stupid, given the fact it was never gonna thaw,if it wasn't playable then? so it shoulda been called off early doors n saved your fans n some of ours traveling.

Burton website JFH feeling sorry for the fans.

Stanley website JC feeling sorry for lost income.

Look after the fans and Stanley may gain or keep a few more. If you know the game is in doubt it is your risk whether or no you travel, however some may not and income is down if the game is played but you keep good will.

The 8 a side 'game' on he pitch afterwards from the picture shows in the very top left why it was postponed. Stanley sometimes trained on the car park at the Coppice end around 25 years ago, so it isn't fooling anyone.

Your manager kept on at the ref about a couple of hard patches maybe because your star man was out ...I think you lot are similar to Morcambe and a bunch of ass holes....and as for our groundsman he's worth 10 of yours, the work he puts in on our budget is tremendous, and Stanley played a 1 hr practice match on the pitch 11 a side with no slipping ,injuries or problems,so you decide if the game should of been called off.

That is very much the story i heard, So i reckon the standing in the game that J.F.H. has, compared to our managers, then the likelihood is the ref would take more notice of JFH.? And before our lot start, this aint a pop at J.C. its just common sense.

Looking at JFH's c.v. he has only experienced football in the rarefied heights of the European top leagues where heated pitches are the norm. He needs to lower his standards a bit to deal with opponents less blessed with moolah at the more deprived level in which we and Morecambe operate. By the way, Morecambe Red, what happened to your Far East shining knights with the big investment you were telling us about?

(1) We have a bigger squad this season from an increased playing budget. That is when your manager is given more money to recruit players than he had in the previous season.

(2) We are developing our own training ground and facilities at a base within Morecambe. The drainage work was done last Summer and passed Kevin's test !

(3) Our Chairman who spends more time in China than England expects us to be selling more Morecambe FC replica kit in China than here within a few years.

(4) Plans are being drawn up and price estimates sought for an extension at the rear of the home terrace.

(5) We have never been in the High court to fight any winding up orders for none payment of P.A.Y.E. etc.

(6) We have covers for the entire playing surface for helping to keep the frost away.

Listening to Coley on the Radio on Sunday it sounded like paying your players their December salaries might be difficult after the Burton postponement and the loss of around £6k which Burton fans would have brought.

The endless knocking of Stanley people (staff, management and players) who are almost certainly trying their best in pretty difficult circumstances, and come to that of anyone who tries to provide an opposing voice of reason, is really grinding me down lately. This website used to be fun to follow - these days its just getting vicious.

To be perfectly honest, if I'd known that that pitch was still frozen and there was to be another inspection at 1:30, I'd not have bothered travelling at all. It doesn't take a genius to work out that frozen soil isn't going to thaw at temperatures of 1 degree.

Mind you, I'd agree that this forum isn't what it was. That's why I don't bother with it as much nowadays.

Thing is its gone down fer many reasons, Jase got banned, one lad joined the navy, a couple at least died, but if everyone took your way Tin Monkey there wouldn't be a Stanley Forum.

There's a difference between investment and a sugar daddy and there's no need for personal abuse.

Then for your own self dignity if nothing else why did you not contact the Administrator ?...
Therefore we must all conclude that your spelling, or your ability to check your posts for errors, particularly when making an unnecessary attempt to criticise another's slip of the finger, leaves much to be desired !.
On the other hand, and quoting Benjamin Franklin :-

If my memory serves me right, this is an 100% unofficial stanley forum???

I remember signing up 10 years ago and the reason for it moving to accyweb from the fishy was that the club didn't want anything on the forum being officially associated with the club.

So why are members of club threatening to close threads???

Exile on Spencer St 31-12-2014 11:45

Re: Game off

I'm newer to this than you, Smudgie, but, as far as I know, Mr.T is what is termed a 'moderator' for this part of the Accyweb.
His role is therefore to moderate outbreaks of scatalogical abuse, which some folk find both unpleasant and unnecessary, before the thread ends up in the s**t.

Why's somebody from the club threatening to close threads; because that's the Modertors job!!

When Mel stepped down ages ago; there was a request for somebody to take over; guess how many people rushed forward to take over???

Yes you gueesed correctly; nobody!!

Unless there was a Moderator this section would close.

I said I'd "do it" until somebody else volunteered.

As I said on onther thread awhile ago; happy to step aside and pass on the batton. Any takers or even a "job share"!!

Dave !...Whilst wishing you every good thing for 2015, I have to confess that you managed to find a gap in my vocabulary with this word 'chebs' !.
So I googled it and discovered it referred to that certain part of a ladies anatomy which always has a couple of good points going for it !..( It is at this juncture that Accymad and the others on the distaff side of our Forum cross me off next years Christmas Card list !).
It also seems that according to the many examples of it's usage outlined on wordnik, the expression is one often used by members of the Army as opposed to other walks of life !.
This then, plus leading a sheltered and somewhat puritanic life, is probably the reason for me missing out on a word which seems perfectly adequate when describing the objects mentioned previously !.

( PS..Alfred.E. Is so disappointed that he cannot find any evidence of any sort of statue or image in Berkhamsted Town Hall displaying it's 'chebs' , and feels that Exile has conned him yet again !).

Happy New Year !.... And KTF!.
