Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Incidentally, I wonder what Man U think about the whole thing? They've had their name associated with something that is fast becoming a national joke, and did the club ask their permission before printing their name on the fantasy tickets? I can't see their heartstrings being "tugged" very much after this!
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
I have been informed that a certain very prominent Stanley figure usually posts all club projects on twitter? But in this instance sod all!!as i dont use it this is obviously second hand, but from a very good source.

However, I'm concerned that the damage to the Club's reputation can only make future (and even existing) sponsors think twice before associating their name with such a gaffe-ridden Club. |

Il put my hat in the ring. Peter Marsden or whoever is coming out with these ideas , put it through me first , and il ask around to get some feedback from some of the fans before you go and commit commercial suicide .... Or just put it through other people!
Many a times on an away day the lads and other supporters have come up with plenty of ideas to create money at the club and how it can be modernised for a bigger market and especially for the younger generation and families! Maybe you should ask 10 people before you do these kind of things or ask for ideas from Stanley fans as obviously the person coming up with these ideas and Peter Marsden approving them clearly can't see this is not only mocking our club but committing commercial suicide. |

I have been trying to put my thoughts together to post on here since I heard this, but sadly I am still a little lost for words. Deeply insulted is the nearest I can get, and I have only been a fan since the conference. I dread to think how the longer-standing fans feel. A horrendous error of judgement.

The guy did a much better job single handed than the 10/15 'directors' that are running the club nowadays! Answer on a postcard - Because he knew the club! He was a fan! he approached things from our perspective! |

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Now that all of the tickets have sold, there's no doubt that the directors will see this as a big success and vindicating the decision to go ahead with it.

Peter Marsden just been on radio, says it being taken too serious ????????
He read an email/text out from someone who is keen and has bought 100 tickets, he did say this mans name but I couldn't make it out. |

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
There's a uniqueness about our club, we're not run of the mill and have a history of doing things a bit differently, and for me, this is one of those such things. We're in an always challenging financial position, and if the price of bringing some additional funds in, is some people taking the mickey, then let them carry on, as this is helping us survive.
Not escaped my notice that JC reckoned they'd lose £5K or £6K on the gate receipts from the Burton fans for the recently postponed games (less Burton fans will attend re-arranged game), and the maths from our Man U ticket stunt will net £5K - funny old thing that! |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
I really don't agree with prostituting ourselves with this highly embarrassing promotion, but lets offer another 500+ tickets if indeed they have sold out, if some people are daft/kind enough to buy them! The damage to our image has already been done for most posters on here at least, so we may as well fill our boots whilst the going is good.

Absolute fool.
I would love to know where all our wonderful board members are at this time of financial crisis?? I see Peter Shaw stepped down the other week, no doubt as he was asked for a few quid. The whole situation absolutely STINKS and im sick to death of it. If it wasnt for Rangers in Scotland I really do think we would be the total laughing stock of British league football. |

I see Peter Shaw stepped down the other week, no doubt as he was asked for a few quid. I presume that you have some evidence to support this statement ?. |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Wasn't a fan of the idea at all when I first heard about it, and still not a fan of it now. Not at all. But I am happy that it raised the £5k - the club always needs the money.
I do think though that we can take some positives from our very negative reaction. Maybe it is a British thing, while we are happy on the whole to poke fun at ourselves, and can cope with people doing so to us, we are very protective of things we love and care about. You really can call me all the names under the sun - some people do - you can laugh at me and poke fun at me, and I will let it go over my head and chuckle at your attempts to get me to bite. But if you try to take the **** out of something I love and care deeply about – a family member, a good friend, or ineed my football club – I will react. We even do it ourselves, to one another we call our small ground that is falling apart in places, the 'tinpot' quirks we know and love, and the way we have to all dig in to get things done. Yet if someone from another club dares to make a disparaging remark about our stadium, then they will get a reaction! I think our true supporters could see what was going to happen – barrage of abuse from rival clubs – and reacted accordingly. Perhaps we should all have been more worried if we hadn’t cared about our club being ridiculed – albeit only by a section of people, appreciate it got some good publicity too – if nobody had got upset about it then it would have indicated nobody cares? Just my thoughts – now who do we play in the next round and is it on the television? On Stanley On, Rob |

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Normally I try to put forward a reasoned argument for the money raising schemes the club put out I'm with Rob on this one. I don't like it and wouldn't go for it myself. I rate rate this along with the commemorative league cup semi final t-shirt that Rangers have tried to sell and there is no way I would buy one of them.
That said, it is £5000 of easy money and loads of publicity. I am proud of the club and, as rob says, would joke about it with the rest of us on the Clayton End but sod anybody else who tries it. I've had the "Accrington Stanley, who are they" which is met with "I've not heard that before" said with a scowl. Some of the women I work with have been talking about it - "Is that your dodgy club trying to sell tickets for a game that won't be played?" met with " if there's mugs that want to pay £20 a shot then it's easy money 'cos we're skint". And I work in Dumfries where most people couldn't find Accrington on a map. I just wonder how many actually believe they have a real ticket for a match or a promise of a chance to buy a ticket for an up and coming friendly against Man Utd :D. Given the amount of people who spend hundreds of pounds on ebay buying iPhone 6 boxes or PS whatever boxes or Xbox thingy boxes and expect the real thing it wouldn't surprise me :D. So, well done on the £5000 just think of a better way next time please. |

C'mon, Yonmon, give the lad a break. He's still a teenager learning the game. A test as to how quickly he learns will come tomorrow (weather permitting) when Northamton are in town. Check out two of their three goals last week. Expect a lot of high crosses and Cobblers lunging all over the penalty area.
