Commemorative tickets for sale - Accrington Stanley FC

:)

sparkie 04-01-2015 14:56

Re: Stanley Fund Raising

A question. How do you commemorate something that didn't happen?!!

I'm really sorry but that's got me really confused. We didn't have a cup run we got to round 2. We didn't beat yeovil so we didn't play united. Why are we commemorating the fact that we didn't play united?!!

AsFc62 04-01-2015 14:57

Re: Stanley Fund Raising

A ticket sale for something that didn't happen.... Really??? Bullseye springs to mind... Let's see what you could have won .

In reality, it's hardly an FA Cup run we entered round one and exited round 2. Without doubt it could have been very different had we beaten Yeovil but how can we then expect to generate cash from something that didn't happen.

Im sorry to be negative but really! Asking for people to laugh at us. I've never been to many places in the world but would I buy a t shirt saying " I've been to..." No I wouldnt! Because it didn't happen.

Why don't we concentrate on our history, our heritage! New scarf dedicated to Jack Barrett or Eric Whalley or anybody, anything that has made our club the way it is.

I commend you all for trying to come up with ideas.blb

Re: Stanley Fund Raising

Don't really think this will catch on to be honest, especially at £20 for a "ticket."

The FA Cup run was for 2 rounds, not really a proper cup run really. If it sells then fair enough but just seems a strange idea IMO.

I'm a bit baffled by this one, I've got to admit.

Good on anyone involved for trying something new but I'd be interested to hear how much this ends up raising. I also wonder if it'll leave a sour taste in anyone's mouth being reminded of how close we got as a means of making money (it doesn't with me, just a thought).

I do appreciate the club are up against it and people are trying their hardest. But come on, this is ridiculous.

We struggle to get 250 people now to pay £20 a ticket for a normal league game never mind for one that never happened!

I'm sorry but this is just a massive fail! Its actually embarrassing how desperate this looks! Just say it to yourself..." We are selling tickets for £20 for a game that never happened'. I'm sorry but this is just a pathetic commercial idea! I've never heard anything like it!

The people that are clearly trying need to just step down from trying as these ideas are getting worse....

Like ash said , 250 limited edition scarves? 250 limited edition shirts? Something along them lines but 250 tickets , a piece of paper to remind us what never happened for £20 is just nuts!

If these are the ideas that are coming from the club then no wonder we have no money !

No harm in adding quality to the squad rather than sticking with Coley's favourites like Roddan, Barry and Crooks.

I agree with you, but if we are to challenge for a play-off spot then quality is needed on the pitch and the bench.

As long as the likes of Simpson, Crooks, Barry and Roddan are around and in the matchday squad this is not the case and the sooner it is sorted the better.

Quote from club article:-

"Said manager John Coleman. “In essence it’s a virtual match but we are speaking to Manchester United and we’re going to try to pull on their heart strings a bit and hopefully those who buy the tickets might actually see us play them in the not too distant future."

Perhaps it would have been more realistic to sort out the full offer first, though how a 'world wide' supporter could take advantage of attending such a match might pose more problems?

The only positive that can be taken from this so far is that it has grabbed the attention of a lot of people because it is such a bad idea which in some strange way may increase sales, however, I'm not holding out much hope

The idea has certainly generated some (unwarranted) attention on Twitter, it seems the outside world seems to think it was a wind up instead of being a serious idea.

Think it might be better to concentrate on pushing things like Friday night football via marketing and reduced prices to help generate positive Google Page Ranking instead.

In all honesty the team did not beat Yeovil so why are the fans being asked to pay for a non existent match? Also why did the club bank on the money in the 1st place? Another point .. We had some windfall from the fa cup why are we skint already? As why else come up with such a desperate idea?

No doubt there is no money Stanleymad, that's quite obvious......

But to see we are still p******g so close to the wind as it where is worrying.

Cup draws have NOT been kind to us in the last 3/4 season's but surely the club can't rely on decent cup draws before the games even happen?? Didnt the club say cup games are NOT budgeted for.... ? So any games we do play are a bonus?

I agree smudgie very worrying, hence my points even though States the obvious answer, also having people who have no experience of running a football club, leaves ammatures to run amock. Hey all, I just read the story and thought it was quite funny (as a supporter of another club). I understand it can be frustrating when your club gets negative press and there's little you can do about it. Hope the media attention helps generate a bit more income or a game against United even, so something positive comes out of it. Meanwhile, if anyone fancies buying a framed print to go with your ticket, I've knocked this up, Herrera's goal against you from yesterday's game. Just kidding :)

All joking aside, I’m struggling to think of anything more embarrassing, cringe worthy, or for want of a better word idiotic to come out of the club in my 30 years of following the reds. And there’s been some howlers over the years. We are getting absolutely hammered in the press and on social media. I believe it’s also been picked up by North-West Tonight – so the damage is already done. I know we are forever skint, but was the £5000 this was intended to generate really worth the ridicule ?

The staggering thing for me is how it got as far as the website. This was not just a hasty post on twitter – this idea has worked it’s way up from inception, through an approval process presumably including the manager and Mr Peter Marsden.

Out of touch does not even get close. The people making these decisions didn’t need fancy market research or surveys, they could have just spoke to any supporter at any game and asked them what they thought of it. They would have been left in no doubt what a crackpot notion it was.

We struggle to get people to pay £20 for an actual football match, what hope for a fantasy one ? I’m all for memorabilia and limited edition stuff related to Stanley, Ebay is awash with it – but not this, not in a million years.

What next ?

Print some period programmes for the last 2 home games in February 1962 against Stockport & Rochdale which we couldn’t afford to print and limit them to 100, maybe get them signed and numbered – I’d buy one.

Or if you really want a fantasy game, do one for the scheduled home game v Exeter on March 10th 1962.

Anything but not this.

If no ASFC fans want these tickets - and, let's face it, they shouldn't - then the club should try to exploit Manchester United's foreign fanbase instead.

From the millions that support them across the globe, it shouldn't be too hard to find 250 daft enough to buy these tickets.

Also interesting to see that the story was published on Twitter, but not the club's Facebook page. Obviously the media department are the only ones savvy enough to see how moronic this idea is and the backlash that would come from it.
