Stanley Fund Raising
I believe there is going to be a major announcement today.........
Possibly controversial......... I wonder if DAV's making a takeover ?........ |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Sounds ominous
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Not really :)
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
all shares are being converted to D shares and there will be a new release of B shares?
David O'Neil and Marcelle Lazarus (back from the dead?) to return? Tom Aldred signs for Barrow in 6 figure deal? |

First of a number of 'initiatives' that will be announced over the next few weeks :) :) :) :) |

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
A question. How do you commemorate something that didn't happen?!!
I'm really sorry but that's got me really confused. We didn't have a cup run we got to round 2. We didn't beat yeovil so we didn't play united. Why are we commemorating the fact that we didn't play united?!! |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
A ticket sale for something that didn't happen.... Really??? Bullseye springs to mind... Let's see what you could have won .
In reality, it's hardly an FA Cup run we entered round one and exited round 2. Without doubt it could have been very different had we beaten Yeovil but how can we then expect to generate cash from something that didn't happen. Im sorry to be negative but really! Asking for people to laugh at us. I've never been to many places in the world but would I buy a t shirt saying " I've been to..." No I wouldnt! Because it didn't happen. Why don't we concentrate on our history, our heritage! New scarf dedicated to Jack Barrett or Eric Whalley or anybody, anything that has made our club the way it is. I commend you all for trying to come up with ideas.blb |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Now that is thinking outside any previously known box :hothothot. I see the release on Fishy is dated 04/01/2015 - not using the US date system are we :D ?
But seriously, if it works, why not? |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Maybe the club can do a deal, Buy the Manchester United ticket, You get the 4th round Tottenham away ticket half price!
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Don't really think this will catch on to be honest, especially at £20 for a "ticket."
The FA Cup run was for 2 rounds, not really a proper cup run really. If it sells then fair enough but just seems a strange idea IMO. |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
I'm a bit baffled by this one, I've got to admit.
Good on anyone involved for trying something new but I'd be interested to hear how much this ends up raising. I also wonder if it'll leave a sour taste in anyone's mouth being reminded of how close we got as a means of making money (it doesn't with me, just a thought). |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
I'm lost for words - sorry & I'm all for fund raising when we can but this just makes us look more than a little bit sad, just my opinion & who knows it could work but sorry - it just doesn't float my boat
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
This is a daft idea.
I do appreciate the club are up against it and people are trying their hardest. But come on, this is ridiculous. Isn't just they had some tickets printed before the replay and want to find something they can do with them?! |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
You have to ask is £5000 worth the embarrassment this gives the club, who the hell comes up with these ideas, totally clueless
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Did Jim Bowen come up wi this un?
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
And what great timing: as we sit here watching the 'what could have been tie vs Man Utd'
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
We struggle to get 250 people now to pay £20 a ticket for a normal league game never mind for one that never happened!
I'm sorry but this is just a massive fail! Its actually embarrassing how desperate this looks! Just say it to yourself..." We are selling tickets for £20 for a game that never happened'. I'm sorry but this is just a pathetic commercial idea! I've never heard anything like it! The people that are clearly trying need to just step down from trying as these ideas are getting worse.... Like ash said , 250 limited edition scarves? 250 limited edition shirts? Something along them lines but 250 tickets , a piece of paper to remind us what never happened for £20 is just nuts! If these are the ideas that are coming from the club then no wonder we have no money ! |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Already being reported by the Guardian - Accrington sell tickets for Manchester United game that will never happen | Football | The Guardian
Embarrassing for the club. Coley says he wants to shake off the 'little Accy' tag, yet things like this happen. |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
I must have been tired driving back from Exeter...I've just woken and it must be April 1st......

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Quite staggering.
Absolute embarrassment. Who on EARTH comes up with these ideas???!?!?!??! |

I can hear the side splitting laughter from the direction of Morecambe from where I'm sitting.
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
As Ash has said, new scarves, shirts etc etc anything but this crap.
Promote the hospitality....... Ever since Faye left, the clubs marketing has gone down the drain, along with numbers paying for the hospitality. Tin Pot........ and quite frankly..... Embarrassing. |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
About as unprofessional as it gets.

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Let,s start by promoting the Bury game Friday maybe some ticket offers and get some much needed new fans down the Crown spending money in and around the ground hopefully.

Nothing constructive to add here. Take the news piece down and kill this now. Sheer idiocy making a mockery of the club. |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Quote from club article:-
"Said manager John Coleman. “In essence it’s a virtual match but we are speaking to Manchester United and we’re going to try to pull on their heart strings a bit and hopefully those who buy the tickets might actually see us play them in the not too distant future." Perhaps it would have been more realistic to sort out the full offer first, though how a 'world wide' supporter could take advantage of attending such a match might pose more problems? |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Sorry Sherry, dreaming n hopefullys don't make much sense either imho.

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Perhaps it's an early entry for the 'Supporters not Customers 'Worst Marketing' Award 2015'. Their 2014 results are here:
Supporters not customers awards 2014 | Supporters Not Customers and, not surprisingly, include Hereford's Agombar as 'Worst Owner'. Despite what everyone is saying, it's bringing publicity to the club and could result in a Manchester United friendly so.... |

The club needs a sustained investment into the commercial side. One off ideas whether good or bad like this aren't gunna be enough to generate the financial resources that we all wish for.
Get someone in the club with commercial nouse in the football industry. At the moment as I quote a good friend of mine 'we have non football people running a football club' |

Please pull this ticket Idea now I've seen enough **** take feedback on social media already. We are already an easy target for the laughing stock we've just given them a whole round of ammunition! Excuse the language

Re: Stanley Fund Raising

Sorry, couldn't resist but seriously can the club really not think of anything better? The only positive that can be taken from this so far is that it has grabbed the attention of a lot of people because it is such a bad idea which in some strange way may increase sales, however, I'm not holding out much hope |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
The idea has certainly generated some (unwarranted) attention on Twitter, it seems the outside world seems to think it was a wind up instead of being a serious idea.
Think it might be better to concentrate on pushing things like Friday night football via marketing and reduced prices to help generate positive Google Page Ranking instead. |

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Haven't posted in a while...but after seeing this I want to express my utter disgust and contempt for the people responsible for this massive own goal.....:mad::mad:
Is it any wonder that fans of other clubs mock us and deride us as " a pub team " as I read many times on opposition websites ??? This debacle only serves to enhance that "reputation" and does even more damage to the already tarnished image of a so called "professional" football club. Will we ever shake off the tinpot tag ??? With marketing "strategy" like this....I somewhat doubt it. We just never learn do we ???:mad::mad: |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
As daft of an idea as it appears to most of us, I applaud the club for at least making an effort to generate an income stream that is, to say the least, different. I would sooner see our club trying new ways to get money than sitting on their chuffs navel gazeing.
I sincerely hope they get a few bucks out of it, but sadly, none of it will be mine. |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
not sure they will ever be of any value on the antiques roadshow but they should be looked at more as a cash contribution to ones beloved club
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Who's in charge of these ideas, Bubbles the Chimp?

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Has occured to me, Whomever came up wi this mad idea, someone higher musta ok'd it? Is Billy Smart on the board?
|
Stanley Fund Raising
We can't keep pulling on the little club card, abusing our history till it means nothing to no one else, in all seriousness other clubs wonder why we are in the league at all! This isn't gonna bring people to the ground, sympathy is being over stretched atm, whilst the world mocks our premature fools joke, there's no professionalism at all in commercial runnings.

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
I really hope, this so called "scheme" is kicked on the head today, before it causes anymore embarrassment.
Hang your heads in shame. |
Stanley Fund Raising
In all honesty the team did not beat Yeovil so why are the fans being asked to pay for a non existent match? Also why did the club bank on the money in the 1st place? Another point .. We had some windfall from the fa cup why are we skint already? As why else come up with such a desperate idea?
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
No doubt there is no money Stanleymad, that's quite obvious......
But to see we are still p******g so close to the wind as it where is worrying. Cup draws have NOT been kind to us in the last 3/4 season's but surely the club can't rely on decent cup draws before the games even happen?? Didnt the club say cup games are NOT budgeted for.... ? So any games we do play are a bonus? Whatever is going on behind the scenes is not only embarrassing but VERY worrying. |
Stanley Fund Raising
I agree smudgie very worrying, hence my points even though States the obvious answer, also having people who have no experience of running a football club, leaves ammatures to run amock. I seriously can't see the fa allowing this either or Manchester Utd may object - after all they are a money making machine, more expert than Stanley.
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Hence, their lies the problem in a nutshell.
NON football people running a football club. If I had my way, I would sack the lot of em, with the exception of buzzer and Will in the Crown. Complete and utter fools. |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
And furthermore, Peter Marsden should be acutely embarrassed at writing such drivel.
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
I wonder if there's a Official " Could Have Been " Programme + Team sheet as well ............. ? :alright:
Despite the fact that I know for a fact people do collect "used" match tickets and occasionally will pay between £3 - £5 for some on E Bay , in all honesty for a match "that never was" I can't see more than half a dozen being sold even at 99p ! |

Who and where are these 15+ directors who come on board not so long ago, Each with experience in different fields (Marketing, Advertising etc) Last but not least, Anyone got Dave O'Neils phone number? |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Hey all, I just read the story and thought it was quite funny (as a supporter of another club). I understand it can be frustrating when your club gets negative press and there's little you can do about it. Hope the media attention helps generate a bit more income or a game against United even, so something positive comes out of it. Meanwhile, if anyone fancies buying a framed print to go with your ticket, I've knocked this up, Herrera's goal against you from yesterday's game. Just kidding :)

Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Really hope discussions are being had at the club today about scrapping this rubbish idea. It's already caused enough embarrassment within 24 hours without allowing it to rumble on and actually going through with it.
If the club can find 250 people who are sound of mind enough to buy these tickets then I'll eat the proverbial hat. |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
Yeh may just end up eating it mate. Theres many dickheads in this world so 250 aint that many.:D
|
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
All joking aside, I’m struggling to think of anything more embarrassing, cringe worthy, or for want of a better word idiotic to come out of the club in my 30 years of following the reds. And there’s been some howlers over the years. We are getting absolutely hammered in the press and on social media. I believe it’s also been picked up by North-West Tonight – so the damage is already done. I know we are forever skint, but was the £5000 this was intended to generate really worth the ridicule ?
The staggering thing for me is how it got as far as the website. This was not just a hasty post on twitter – this idea has worked it’s way up from inception, through an approval process presumably including the manager and Mr Peter Marsden. Out of touch does not even get close. The people making these decisions didn’t need fancy market research or surveys, they could have just spoke to any supporter at any game and asked them what they thought of it. They would have been left in no doubt what a crackpot notion it was. We struggle to get people to pay £20 for an actual football match, what hope for a fantasy one ? I’m all for memorabilia and limited edition stuff related to Stanley, Ebay is awash with it – but not this, not in a million years. What next ? Print some period programmes for the last 2 home games in February 1962 against Stockport & Rochdale which we couldn’t afford to print and limit them to 100, maybe get them signed and numbered – I’d buy one. Or if you really want a fantasy game, do one for the scheduled home game v Exeter on March 10th 1962. Anything but not this. |
Re: Stanley Fund Raising
If no ASFC fans want these tickets - and, let's face it, they shouldn't - then the club should try to exploit Manchester United's foreign fanbase instead.
From the millions that support them across the globe, it shouldn't be too hard to find 250 daft enough to buy these tickets. Also interesting to see that the story was published on Twitter, but not the club's Facebook page. Obviously the media department are the only ones savvy enough to see how moronic this idea is and the backlash that would come from it. |
