Your work on the changing rooms project would make a good story in a national newspaper, Nick. That might result in a few donations. Have you got a Press Officer - ideally someone with journalistic experience?

Bob Dobson 16-08-2015 06:47

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

I also think that we could do with a presence on Facebook - Hyndburn Chat. Twitter too , though I don't use it It is likely that there are other Facebook pages which are read by football fans. I suggest that you discuss publicity with David Lloyd- he will know who might take the job on for us

The club have been selling signed shirts on their eBay site and prices vary but anything £50-£80 seems to be what the going rate is for them, depending on who the player is!

A lot of shirt collectors don't want signed/defaced shirts, even though a non-collector who buys the odd shirt may see it as added value.

We had a very productive meeting last night 17/9/15 some good ideas were discussed. we now have nearly 500 members and rising It would be great if we could have a few more coming to the supporters meetings as all views and ideas are welcome. In a small club like ours we all need to be pulling together, The OASSC is doing a fantastic job but just needs a few more bodies to help man or woman the stalls on match days in particular. We have discussed the Decimadinner to celebrate 10 years of league status. Tickets are £30 per head, which may seem a little steep but there is a 4 course meal and a guest speaker Steve Kindon (ex claret) and a young local vocalist Stephanie Louise, there will be other events on the nigh, all funds raised will be used for the betterment of the club. there will be ex players at the tables who may wish to add a few words. If you can make it please come along and enjoy the night.

There was another productive meeting of the supporters club. If you have not paid your subs could you please do so. I thought it would be a nice gesture to wear a Stanley Tie for the Decima Dinner however we don't actually have any, so to rectify this I would be willing to help organise a Stanley club tie. I thought we could have a red and white stripey tie with the clubs logo on it. I don''t know how much it would cost per tie but if enough people were interested.I am sure we could get them for a decent price. please say if you would be interested and how much you would be prepared to pay for a decent quality tie. we need a few more members to attend our meetings so please make the effort.

Depending on the material ie polyester or silk. the price can vary dramatically depending on the amount ordered. I am sure we could sell 500 quality silk ties at £10 per tie, this will give the club a profit of around £2.50 per tie. not to sniffed at and keeps the mechandise affordable. you could simply ask on both forums who would want one and a non refundable deposit would ensure sales are sound.

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

Hold the fund raising, Nick, it may be counter-productive!

Couldn't help smiling as I listened to Danny Webber commentating on the FC Utd cup game last night. In his summary, he suggested that the quality of the facilities at Broadhurst Park, including the changing rooms, made it less likely that a League team would be rattled by playing there, and thus be less likely to be turned over by the underdogs. He compared this with other grounds, namely Stanley's, where, he alleged, the changing rooms 'spook' teams that are more used to luxury, and thus increase the chance they won't perform well.
So, I trust any investment that the OASSC contributes towards the changing rooms will be limited to the home team's, and that the opposition will be made to get changed in the toilets inside the Crown and walk to the ground.;)

I seem to remember that when we played Fulham in the cup, they declined the opportunity to use the changing rooms and changed in their hotel?

Yeah, I remember that Fulham game and I suspect some of them would have had to bend double to get in the changing room. They had some giants that day.

Maybe so but somehow I don't think the potential lack of headroom was their reason for refusing to use our facilities  - bloody prima donnas!

Nick,
I'm not too far from Sandhurst, just beyond the wonders of Basingstoke. If no- one else is closer, let me know the details and I'll sort it out. If you're planning to be at Pompey, I could see you, or your proxy, then.

Excellent idea hope they achieve the target and get this built also reading the article sounds like real plans for a change on upgrades to the ground can,t wait to hear from Andy Holt what these entail.

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

I don't really understand why a Fanzone would benefit Stanley or how the 40k would be spent.

These are usually areas outside grounds with bars, food and sometimes entertainment, but there is normally not too much to them. What is planned for Stanley's?

Being cynical they are normally a club's way of getting a large share of the pre-match pub trade, but it isn't as though the pubs around the ground are 10 deep at the bar and too busy to get in like other clubs who have these things. With the £40k figure known I assume it has been designed and costed at a high level, so it would be a good idea to share some more detail with fans to encourage donations, as I can't visualise what it is or where is is going to be etc from the text on the club website, and I am not sure that others will be able to either.

Chimer 10-12-2015 23:09

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

As the shift of focus from sorting out the changing rooms is very recent, I doubt whether anything has been designed at a high level yet. But we could do worse than something like the arrangements under the away end at the Daggers, with a bar, loos, pieshop (!) and tellys showing latest scores and tables etc.

Mind, if they had a pub like the Crown within 5 miles of the ground they might not need it ...

Is it not a case of upgrading facilties to make the match day experience better ?

One of the biggest complaints ( maybe even the biggest ) is how bad the facilties are. Without going back and reading the article I'm fairly sure it also mentioned the facility would be built to use 7 days a week, so it's a community based things as well.
