Sounds like a possibility, Widnes 5 august 7.30.
Any more details though?
I got dragged to an Everton reserve match there once.
Lucas Neill was playing right back for Everton - can't recall much more.
A touch on the vociferous side, was Lucas Neill that evening. In my humble opinion.
Constantly on to the ref, bless him. At least he cared!

Widnes ground is on the original site when the club were founder members of the then Northern Union. It was rebuilt about 17 years ago and has seats on all 4 sides with a capacity around 14,000. I suspect they will only open the South stand.

Stanley have played at this stadium before when we played Runcorn Linnets. Because it is Widnes Vikings ground and an artificial turf as well, this is the reason why Widnes (formally Runcorn) now play there.

Hi there. McCain Stadium demolished and bulldozed flat I am afraid.

Since reformation in 2007 Scarborough Athletic have been playing in exile down the coast at Bridlington Town's Queensgate Stadium. They continue to groundshare there but a new stadium is in the pipeline and Boro hope to move back to Scarborough in two seasons time.

Scarborough Athletic only use the rugby club for pre-season friendlies

The thing is though, Burnley and Rovers fans will pay the £15 pounds,

Maybe it's not the best way to interest new Stanley fans but to me pre-season is just about fitness, If that means getting money out of Burnley and Rovers fans to help our season then so be it!

Oh dear. We seem to have problems with penalties. I would let the goalies take 'em. They would break the net or blast the opposing keeper over the line.

I think Crooks is going to be a top player for this season and will prove to be a top midfield player as he's got a bit of everything, even pace !!!
Like to see him alongside Connelly in a 4-2-3-1.
Not clue about the other nine though !!,maybe windlass, piero and mcconville in the three and kee/Cornell up top.

Might be wrong but I think Coley maybe thinking 4-3-3 he,s been playing that in the friendly,s prefer it myself to just 1 upfront and let,s you play more of your attacking options especially at home maybe the other system away any thoughts anyone.

Always been my preferred shape, saying that I also believe in playing a system that suits your personnel.
Against Blackburn we played with crooks in front of the back four and he got a little isolated.
We have some great attacking choices, but not many ball winning midfielders, that's why I'd definitely have a look at the system that got us to the play offs ie, six defenders and four offensive players.
Really looking forward to seeing this young team progress, got a good feeling

Well if common sense prevails, I hope we do follow suit and cancel this "friendly". Apparently Morecambe cancelled due to the prospect of facing a higher policing bill.

With that in mind it's a no brainer for me.....whilst I've got sympathy for the plight of the Blackpool fans in respect of all the turmoil at their club, I don't think we should be giving them another stage upon which to protest and paying through the nose (i.e. the inevitable ramped up policing bill ) for the privelage!!:o

How would you identify the ones with no colours on? Just ask them "are you a Blackpool fan"?

But if away fans are banned they would have to be very stupid to go to the away end.

I have a fair bit of experience going to the home end as an away fan both in this country and abroad and you don't wear colours and you don't go to the away end if away fans are banned :-D.

Superb from Stanley today. Crooks is in danger of becoming a cult hero at the Crown if he carries on like that. MOM by a country mile. Things are looking very bright for the new season with options for Coley in every position. Morgan and Kee will make it difficult for Terry Gornell to be first choice up front. Similarly, Adam Buxton is nailed on our best right full back instead of being played out of position on the left.

Outback Ozzy 18-07-2015 16:29

Re: Friendlies

Got to agree Redraine. Couldn't buy a goal last season yet 3 in pre-season for Crooks. i also agree on MOM. McConville looked dangerous on the wing as did Justin St Juste in the 2nd half. A must sign for me. The small number 20 (Clarke) is not a defender for me, he is too small and would get beaten in the air every time. Both Goalies had decent games and overall it was entertaining to watch. Crowd decent at 2,100 but outnumbered is an understatement. Especially as it was the testimonial for John and Jimmy. Would have been nice to be nearer 3,000. If we play League 2 teams like we played Burnley in the first 10 minutes, we will demoralize them no end. However, I will not be over complacent. It will be a long season, but I do hope one which we may be successful.

Enjoyed the game today and the first half we set our stall out by pressing the ball all over the field and burnley in the first 15 minutes couldn't cope with it.
The squad has competion for places over the team,Crookes and Coonelly were excellent, but Barry and Proccy will be pressing them,There's nothing between the keepers, there's at least eight players who could comfortably play in the back four positions ,so as they say "game on"!!!!

Great performance by all of the Stanley players used today!!!
I thought that the set up of the starting eleven looked really well balanced and we seemed to fill every square inch of the pitch early on. Burnley could not cope with Josh Windass who has enhanced his reputaion further with a super performance against players from a higher level.
I agree with earlier posters that Crooks was superb!........He could be Stanleys version of "Ja Ja".......Big and strong in midfield.........covered lots of ground.........tackled well.........his passing was excellent and incisive....... and........he SCORED TWO GOALS!!:alright:
It was great to see that we now have some height in our back four but also that the bigger lads have some skill too.:s_gupjump
Burnley had more possession from twenty minutes up to seventy minutes but I was particularly pleased to see us finishing the game with strength and on the front foot. We deserved the fourth goal which capped a marvellous display and a fully deserved win for the boys in RED.:theband:
Well done to John, Jimmy and the players. This should give them all confidence as the real matches get closer!

St.Juste? Not sure - just wonder how much difference he can make? Crooksy I can see becoming a firm fans favourite & predict he'll be top scorer & will sweep the board at the end of season awards, he just seems so determined to make amends for his mistakes last season, bless 'im - he'll do for me.
Decent crowd on today but it's usually a higher gate v Burnley in our pre-season friendlies with them - we're always outnumbered but makes me wonder how many of our own had an issue with the testimonial, not saying Coley & Jimmy shouldn't have one just that the timing could've been better - just a thought

Your right Wyn,but key will be to rotate the way we play when teams work us out and the squad already seems capable of this.
Competition for places is key, which makes training high tempo and in turn (hopefully) our performances improve week on week.
Lets not forget its a new ,relativity young, inexperienced team,so we will only get better when they get used to playing the way Coley wants.

You probably won't believe this, but without a word of a lie, not having heard the team announcements and with no numbers on the players' shirts I asked Valerian at half time who the new big lad was on our team with the "topnot" hair style!.With the new top not making him look even taller, his swarthy skin tone and great ball skills, I though he was a new triallist looking like a South American ex Premier league import or something, and didn't recognise him as the struggler from last season! As you say, his finish for his first goal was top drawer, not the usual panicked blast or tame pass back we are used to at this level. I couldn't understand why Coley had signed him last season but now I'm more than happy to eat humble pie, and just hope he can keep it up. As Bob says, we could have the new Yaya (not Ja Ja) on our hands. I'm sure our version won't throw his toys out of the pram if the club fails to bake him a nice birthday cake.

100% agree Redraine and he will eventually leave us to play at an higher level,i have no doubts at all.
I always say lads coming from 21s football take time to adjust, but the quality always comes through, some adapt, some don't.They all go through a period were their performances dip,but as they get more experience those periods get less and less.
I will watch with interest the two young CBs who have started well ( really like the no 5) and how they adapt against experienced pros.
Windass is another were this season could be massive for him if he raises his game and his positional sense is getting better all the time.

The artificial pitch is one of those fancy 4G things that actually plays really well and has been used by Premier League reserve teams.

Thought it was a good performance, given the pitch was crap, very bobbly, the officials shouldn't be allowed to ref a ludo game, we shoulda had 2 definite pens before they gave us one, also gave a throw in to them that was 18" inside the pitch, also another that their player kicked off another of theres was given to them.had a good natter wi a few of their fans, they share wi Bridlington at the moment, which is why it had to be played yon. Thought crooksy again played very well, Joss when he came on also Etheridge,They did try to play good football apart from the clown that was 2 foot tackling and allowed to do so.

Really good workout for the lads on a surface which was iffy at best.
To be fair I thought Scarborough were a fit side and kept their intensity levels high, but we made them chase shadows for long periods.
Besides the usual suspects,I thought Liam at CB played well and the keeper was very good.
Another clean sheet was pleasing,so it will be interesting how the shape of the team comes together as the lads not involved played earlier in the day and got beat by Evertons kids!!,conceding four in the process.

And it was as blatant a penalty as you'll see at any level. :)

The keeper you thought Alvin is 6-3, so no midget.:) they are both big lads, but ones exceedingly big.

Have the club decided if they're going ahead with the Blackpool friendly?

I called at club today and was told that if Pool's game in Scotland tomorrow is not invaded, the game will be on. No tickets being issued ahead of game. Gates open 6.30pm If invaded, it'll be off

There's a big difference between the number of fans who will travel to Perth and to Accy.

The games which were played were a Tuesday in Blyth and a closed doors game against Ross county so problems were unlikely but a short trip to Accy could end up like their game at Lancaster.

The fact it may get invaded may even put people off going anyway

Technically I was right, still on at least until tomorrow.

whilst I really feel for blackpool fans in their response to being run by the oyston,s is it really worth the club to continue with this game. I imagine there will be a large plod presence inside as well as outside the ground and who will foot the bill. I rarely go to friendly games myself but would like to see tom again but this could turn ugly. come on blackpool what you do in you,re own back yard is ok by me but please leave ours alone.

At this time the game v Blackpool has been given the "green light" to go ahead by Lancashire Police as a CS ( club security) game. This is the same status as all games have been at the Storefirst Stadium for the last 3 seasons. Currently there are no plans for any fixtures to be policed in the 15/16 season.

Safety and policing at matches changes day by day as there are numerous factors to take into consideration.

The Morecambe v Blackpool game was cancelled by MFC as there were some additional intelligence which meant Lancashire police were insistant on there being a police presence. MFC decided it uneconomical to stage the fixture.

Reviews of the "situation" are being made by both Club's in conjunction with Lancashire police on a daily basis.

Lets be positive about the Blackpool friendly!
The Oyston family considering a 23 million takeover by the BST
IF ALL PARTIES AGREE IT COULD BE A BIG CELABRATION PARTY NEXT FRIDAY
MIGHT EVEN HAVE TO GET MORE TABLES OF MERCH READY!

Whilst the Oyston family may be considering the bid, I suspect nothing can or will happen for some time.

The BFC Chairman is currently under a suspension from ALL football activity. I suspect this will exclude him on making any decision on the future ownership of the club he is Chairman of??

When his suspension has finished (mid August) perhaps then there will be a reply to the propsoed takeover.

Re: Friendlies

Good solid performance yesterday on a decent surface.
Any game against a team managed by Sean Hessey was always going to be competitive and in the first half the youngsters more than held their own.
Indeed, young Hazeldine put himself about against two big centre backs and Carvers energy caught the eye.
Another plus, besides the youngsters performance, was that of Matty Pearson in centre mid, strong, composed and read the game well, besides helping the younger lads settle.
The second half team was more experienced, and told on a good surface.
Crookes was again different class, playing a little more advanced.

I was watching the lads train on Friday morning and I think Coley,s unearthed a bit of a gem with Crookes his ball control distribution and pace was a joy to watch Friday let,s hope he carries it on into the season.

I hope we can afford to keep this squad together as I think we could well be knocking on the door at the end of the season. maybe even automatic promotion. I know it is a long way off but I am very happy at the way many players have gelled so soon. It is going to be a very exciting season.

My mates are looking forward to the trip on Friday. They aren't specially 'Pool; fans, and feel affinity with both clubs.

Thanks to Widnes Viking. Am showing my age in thinking back to the likes of the plastic pitch at Oldham Athletic in the late 1980s. The ball would bounce that high in those days.. from the goal keeper right out of Oldham and over to Rochdale town hall?
Slight exaggeration on my part.
Widnes Vikings also the rugby league team play on the pitch?

Another good all round performance tonight, against a decent Div 1 side, A good goal scored after a good run by Piero and the knock out finished well by Shay, spoilt only by a pathetic attendance, which was not helped by a disgraceful lack of publicity,

Re: Friendlies

Coley has gone into interview whispering mode again so I can't hear what he is saying, although I get the impression he is trying to downplay expectations for the coming season. Me? I'm really getting excited and think his biggest problem is settling on his best starting eleven, as we appear to be well covered in every department. I thought we were great tonight against what is probably the Dalemens best 11, which had such a superb season in div 1 after promotion and surprised a lot of pundits as to their quality after their promotion. I just hope Davies has not picked up a bad injury as he was immense in defence and very composed and creative in possession too. A masterclass by him tonight.

Re: Friendlies

Good solid defensive display which the trailist right back was very good.
Rochdale.although not creating much, asked a few questions with playing three at the back and wing backs pushing up.
After 20 minutes,we grew into the game and were the better side.
I give up trying to pick the starting eleven,as the subs were just as good if not better than the first eleven.
Crooked and Connelly gave us quality, whilst Pearson and Barry made us more competitive,
Which allows bucko to come on and push on !!
Thought Davies competed well against a good player, just a good solid performance, with no obvious weaknesses (and a clean sheet !! )

Or maybe it's holiday season, the weather was crap, the opposition weren't that high profile :)

It's on all the big posters, fixture lists and website. Not much more you can do really

Lots of people I know who weren't there knew about the game. Maybe they could tell us about why they didn't go.

Personally it would have to be a very attractive friendly for me to pay and go to see. The constant complaint on here is that people don't turn up to league games, you've not much chance with friendlies unless it's special.

Oer 20.000 thought that at Norwich last night. My constant complaint is the clowns running the circus do very little to attract more people, the managers n players do more than them.
