New kit release!

According to our official Twitter page the new kit will be released today!

Does this mean we've found a sponsor?

I understood that it was still going to be StoreFirst until the new year, due to the fact that they had already paid up until then - I was told that in April, so could have changed.

Because of the issues with the sponsorship, we have delayed the change of away & 3rd kit. Home kit was unavoidable.

We are putting plans in place to upgrade the early season buyers for a reduced price shirt after Christmas, if they want it. Not the ideal solution but about the fairest we can offer under the circumstances.

Do not forget that makes them a little bit more of a collectors item ;)

Why "unavoidable" Dave? Could we not get enough of the old design to put the new players' names on, or something? Just asking :)

Unavoidable may have been the wrong word. There was no easy solution is probably a better answer ;) New home kit was required :)

If you are the Reds you don't wear stripes! Ask Liverpool. And why Red stripes? If you need a change for the sake of change, why not something more dramatic, like Maroon and Gold hoops, or something else that has nothing to do with Stanley?

Accrington Stanley have worn Red shirts for 115 years with one exception, 1961-62. Omen?:(

I agree Greger.
Stanley in stripes just isn't right!
I suppose I am just a boring old .... and yes I am a believer in tradition so in my view STANLEY should be in FULL RED SHIRTS and, dare I say it, in white shorts too!:jimbo:
I believe that you can still apply the long standing red and white colour scheme but with an ultra modern design incorporated and Stanley players will look superb!

Have to say I expected the shirt to get a lot more flak from the traditionalists than has happened, maybe they are still speech less :D

Yes, but from a spectators distance its as near as dammit the same from the front. A terrible decision by whoever to make it a change of identity without consulting the fans, not just a design detail. Can't think of any other club other than Cardiff with their loony owner which has done this before.

Give it a few games into the season and we're winning games people will get used to it!

Some people hate it, some people love it. It's a temporary design change, not a permanent change

I don't like the change from mainly plain red, but not as much as I dislike the entire concept of having a different away strip - obviously a change strip is necessary but whenever I have to watch us playing in gopping yellow or referees' black or even pristine white against a team playing in blue, I wonder why not red as God intended .......

When the club announced it on Facebook there were a few, there are also some earlier comments on here of people who like it ( I'll not use the word love :) )

I think it looks smart, wouldn't go as far as to say I love it. There will never be a shirt that everybody likes

The kit probably is unimportant to the players who are wearing it (as long as they're not asked to wear anything too ridiculous!), so it's not going to make any difference to their performance and that's what counts.

Knobhead Liberals v Traditionalist Moaners... I'd pay £15 to watch that friendly!

Personally I agree that the design is not Stanley and was disappointed in the club for choosing this kit. I gather it was slim pickings from stock designs but going into a different club design altogether was always going to be divisive.

That said, the kit has grown on me the more I've seen it. I think it looks better than any of the kits we've had in recent years and it may well be the first replica I've bought in a few seasons.

Go figure!

Southampton broke with tradition two years ago and played in a nearly(white pin stripes)full red shirt and West Brom last season ditched their navy blue stripes for hard to notice pinstripes so other clubs experiment. Scunthorpe used to play in red shirts but changed their club colours to claret and blue. Arsenal played in burgundy shirts the other year,Bury played in sky blue and brown shirts the other year. Accept it folks,it's not permanent, though i do prefer it when we play in white shorts rather than red!:wub8:

Is that the right conclusion? All the examples you mention were changed back because the fans did NOT accept it!

But to be absolutely correct Bury and Arsenal didn't ignore their history, but rather tried to celebrate it. Bury had played in those colours 125 years earlier, and Arsenal (probably mistakenly) thought that their colours had been burgundy a 100 years earlier.

A club like Accrington Stanley should celebrate its history, not ignore it. Because it is what sets it apart. Without the history ASFC is just another Forest Green, or Stevenage!

I'm sure most of us over the age of 30 would love the game to go back to what it was, our national working class game. Sadly those days have long gone, the greed of tv and corporate business saw to that. The history doesn't go, however you have to find any means possible to keep a club like Stanley afloat and competing in the top 92 clubs in England. If that means a diversion from tradition now and again, the club have to go with it, it's not an option unless somebody throws a lot of money in to the club. The shirt choice this season was driven by commercial reasons, there is no buying power to 'design' a shirt like the big clubs. It is temporary and a home shirt with stripes may never be seen again :)

Oh so the fans who were not even consulted or opinions asked, do not want the club to stay afloat? Or perhaps they are of the opinion this will not help one iota.? I didn't expect to hear arse kissing crap from you dave, but lifes full of surprises.

That right there is good enough for me.

If someone is putting their hand in their pocket to have the shirt like it is then jobs a good 'un and well done to whoever got money from nothing.

Its a fact, they have changed from Stanley Red, without even considering History, Tradition, and Fans. A cast iron FACT.

Get real! Nobody has put their hand in their pocket. As Dave points out there is no money in designing a Stanley shirt. But that also means that nobody is paying for the stripes, not even the Barbers Guild.

More likely Mitre offered a set of shirts intended for Stevenage on the cheap!

What about the reason our away kit last year was yellow and blue, was it anything to do with Store First, our kit sponsors colours being yellow and blue?

The examples i've mentioned were or will be changed back not due to fans pressure but for commercial reasons. Most clubs change their strips every season so the fans needn't worry about their clubs traditional shirts being changed for more than a season. The only case i can think of where fans have influenced a club to change it's strip colours or design is the Cardiff City farce where they changed from blue to red, then back to blue.

Re: New kit release!

Maybe next season we could have red and white halved shirts like Feyenoord? Seriously though i don't know why some are getting worked up over a few stripes. The strip will still be predominantly red! A few white stripes on the front of the shirt is all we're on about! Anyway,to those who say we are the Reds and now we wont be. I say we are known throughout the football world as Stanley(the only Stanley in Britain and probably the world),not the Reds, as there must be hundreds if not thousands of "Reds" out there!

Accy Combination springs to mind; the commercial side of the club is almost upsetting. Stick a badge on a generic multibuy kit... Who would have sanctioned this?

Not all 'commercial' decisions are made by the commercial department, in actual fact they had no input as there was nobody to have any input.

One of the key issues was retail, as most people know I look after that side of things, so I had input, hence why I have defended the decision in this thread.

I've explained some of the decision making earlier, transparency which people ask for then find fault with. I don't feel guilty about helping to make a 'commercial' decision under the circumstances they have to be made. If anybody wishes to step in the club would welcome you with open arms, I don't mind retiring and spending the millions I've made in my time there :D
