Northampton Game.

Good game which we should have won no doubt at all to me, Thought Buxton was man of match by a mile,? we need to take chances without doubt, made far more than Nhants yet only scored with a penalty, also the players need to decide better when they should shoot, quite a few occasions passed or tried too, when shooting was an obvious choice, my personal view "Must do better"

Re: Northampton Game.

Thought we were the better team in the first half, missed two sitters then got mugged.
Second half we started brightly, but cashys right, our decision making was hit and miss.
We tried to win the game by playing two up top when Billy came on,but that meant they had a extra man in midfield and it caused a few problems.
For me a few players need to sharpen up when we don't have the ball.
Thought our keeper had a good game and Tom was again excellent

Re: Northampton Game.

Not so sure we were worth 3 points. Mooney got us out of gaol on a couple of occasions when our defenders let them in. Richards took advantage of a defensive mix up though for their goal and it was a very finely judged finish. Just the quality we lacked up front. I can't get my head round Coley's faith in Terry Gornell who was completely in Cresswell's pocket for 90 minutes and never looked like scoring once again. Puzzling.

Re: Northampton Game.

Ironic that we were undone by "holding"an highline.
Against quick players, your giving them areas to run into.
To be fair it looked a good finish and looked like a top spin tennis shot !!
Our goals conceded column is promotion form, our goals scored is relegation form !!
Would be concerned if we weren't creating chances, but we are and just need to take a few

Re: Northampton Game.

Fair result.

We had the best of the first half but failed to make it count.

Switching to 4-4-2 taking off Windass for Kee was a gamble that didn't pay off - they soon became isolated as Northants dominated the midfield.

Re: Northampton Game.

Well fer me,at least Kee looked like he wanted to be involved, Terry certainly didn't.

Was thinking this on the way home F19!

In Pre-season we was saying how well we should do attacking wise but wasn't so convinced defensively with only Winnard and possibly Buxton (taking away injuries last season) that we knew were proven/good enough, as well as two unknown keepers!

Interesting to hear Coleys post match interview saying he thinks Josh might but putting a brave face on and hiding an injury, Hopefully Bury on tuesday in JPT will let us see more of Kee, Morgan, Bruna etc!

Interesting game, thaught a draw all in all was probably a fair result , we seem to be playing well in patches but not over the course of the 90 mins which has been frustrating , didn't agree with mom today I thaught pierro had one of his poorer games along with Windass an crooks, stand out players for me today were tom Davies Adam Buxton an Seany mac also thaught big Jason done well, onto Tuesday an hopefully a win and a good run in the jpt.

I'm probably gonna get shot down but imo, Coley's interview was so negative - he's gone on about the gate nos. but seriously, it's a good job it's probably only Stanley fans who listen to his comments because how the hell would that negativity encourage anyone to come to a game??
Yes it's disappointing to draw a game we could've won but as I think has been said before, maybe he should take a while to think before he does his post match interview?
Personally I enjoyed the game, yes I was rockin & diddling towards the end praying they wouldn't score again but at least it was on the whole a decent match to watch - as I said just my opinion

Re: Northampton Game.

My thoughts on todays game were that Northampton were the best I have seen up here this season well organized quick on the break and contributed to an entertaining game positives for us look very good defending Mooney had a good game Davies beginning to look one of the best centre halves we have had in a while, negatives looked out of sorts going forward played well in patches but we just don,t look like scoring no killer instinct maybe time for a change or stick with it and maybe the goals will come but we do look hard to beat which is a good sign nice to see a few more on.

Re: Northampton Game.

Another sleepless Saturday night haunted by our toothless attacking performance, especially after watching some scintillating play up front from many of our Div.2 rivals on Channel 5. We have a very strong spine this season but it ends in midfield! I appreciated Oldgobbin's kind pre-match words though. Pity his , and all our other travellers' devotion to the cause isn't shared by the great unwashed Accy public. Coley must feel he's banging his head against a brick wall. We desperately need an Andy Bishop type at c.f. as our one's legs turn to jelly in and around the penalty area. Hoping for better on Tuesday night!

Re: Northampton Game.

Its a difficult one that Redraine. When playing one up top, your relying on the three behind to get up and beyond them and hopefully get between 5-10 goals each.
When we spring forward, for me,its Crooksy who seems to be the willing runner.
Yesterday,Sean,Josh and Piero (who had a good game) seemed reluctant to take a chance.
Was it they weren't convinced Terry would win the header/hold the ball up ?,hard to say.
It crossed my mind to try 4-1-4-1 with Pearson holding and bringing Liam into fullback.
Think the key for us is to score the first goal as we have a few lads who can counter attack with pace
Big plus for me is the keeper is improving game by game.

Hey i dont think we are that far away from being a really good side
Possibly like to see a bit more pace up top in central positions
If we build on this it could give us a good solidfoundation for the season
Shaun Mac just in behind central striker ??

Re: Northampton Game.

I agree with many comments on here, we seem to have sorted out defence but the attack supply from midfield is poor. there is still a big communication problem. Josh although scored a penalty he did look for it and got it. Although we got the point we should have beaten them from open play. I am afraid we looked tired. we failed on what should be training ground practice. we played so much better in the friendlies. Matt crooks is too hit and miss at the moment, we need to know which matt crooks is going turn up. however on a lighter note we have a point.

Re: Northampton Game.

I am sure you have to play at least five of the players on Tuesday who payed on Saturday,so it will be interesting who starts.
Think Kee will start up top (never realised he has a 1 in 2 career goal ratio !).
Hope to see a couple of young ones at least on the bench .
Maybe try a different spine,keeper,Joe,proccy/Barry and billy up top.
Looking forward to it and hopefully some good performances to put a little pressure on the others.

Re: Northampton Game.

I think that we played quite well in the first half and had overall control of midfield where we were clearly playing five in a "W" formation leaving Terry playing alone up front. Whilst I fully advocate having control in midfield, one or two of the midfield players have to be more prepared to get forward and make the 'second (or third) man' up top when we are attacking. Terry is not the type of 'lone target man up front' player especially against two big 'bruisers' like Creswell and Taylor. Terry is clearly more of a 'foil' to play off a big old fashioned centre forward.
Nobody has mentioned this but I think that we conceded midfield when Seamus Coneely was substituted. For me, he was our key player for the fist hour with most of our play going through him. He has become the 'hub' around which our team 'ticks' and I would have subbed others instead of him. Our defence, apart from the goal obviously, was strong against very difficult opponents. Northampton are a robust side physically and Richards and Potter up front got away with quite a lot of pushing as did Taylor in their defence. Our boys have got to learn how to cope with this by running into spaces in order to collect the ball, free of an opponent, instead of standing next to opponents and battling for the ball against players who are adept at commanding that space.....go and find space is the key!
Richards has been a super player and one who you would rather have in your team than on your opponents list! He took his goal superbly but I think that our keeper should have continued his rush out of goal and dived across the onrushing Richards and then he could have smothered the ball or deflected it away for a corner. Jason changed his mind half way out which gave Richards just a brief moment to loft the ball which he did, as superbly as any Andy Murray 'lob' that I have ever seen. Must give credit to Richards here! Apart from that I agree that Jason played really well and kept us in the match later on.
Clearly we still need someone who has that 'killer instinct' in front of goal but we also need our midfield boys to step up and score some goals too.
People will talk about team formations and how we started 4-5-1 and then changed to 4-4-2 but it is not that simple. Football is a fluid game and although a team will have a basic shape in a 'formation', all players have to be up and down the field and across the field depending on the state of the play at the time. For example a "4-4-2" formation becomes something more of a 2-4-4 when you are attacking and 6-3-1 when defending! When we have an attacking corner and our big lads from the back go up then it can become a 1-3-6.
Buxton had another good game and he ran himself into cramp again! Davies was strong and steady. Deano had a couple of ' Deano' moments but has built up a pretty good understand with Davies and Pearson too. Pierro, Josh and Sean Mac were a bit hit and miss though. Sean had the best chance when he beautifully cut in from the wing beating about three players but scuffed his shot finding the wrong side of the post...(killer instinct needed?)
Yes we should have been 'well clear' by half time but having gone behind to a strong outfit we did well to come back and get the draw.

Nick, who would you pick as the 'Central Striker'?

an entertaining game with decent officials. we have the basis of a good side but are one player short we need a natural goalscorer upfront and quickly before we have to play catch up again.

The transfer window slams shut Tuesday I don,t think Coley will do any incoming deals probaly down to finance shame because there are players like Calvin Zola out there with no club, will probaly be praying nobody comes for any of ours but a big money offer can,t be turned down.

A move for Calvin Zola could be good for us, (subject to his state of fitness).

Down to money and when big Kay gets more at Stockport than here you know it's going to be difficult!!
Nice to see James Grey doing well at Wrexham, would think he'll be ready for another crack at league football soon

Why try & bring in another striker & possibly spend money we haven't got when we have a perfectly good home grown one currently out on loan? Just a thought;)

Billy Kee for me Nick, although I like to see a bit more of Morgan.
Don't forget he played when we got our only league win !! :)

I would also like to see Shaun Mac played in behind a main striker, but would also like to see Morgan get a run out, an billys started 1 game upfront in which we won 1-0 so there's a few options for tomorrow's game for coley to have a look at.

Agree with you there Nick and Pidge. Adam deserves a go at a full 90 minutes.
If Adam is selected from the start I hope that whoever plays in support of him really does get up there and help and doesn't just leave him as a lone target man.
