Unlucky tonight

Thought we played well. The football in the first half is some of the best i've seen. Rory gave some much needed width, if only we could have some more on the other side. Did any of our chances cross the line? Jimmy Bell was fuming about one at the end. Thought evil had the best chance to clinch the game at 1-0 should of hit it first time but took a touch and hit a defender. If only we play like that at Leigh we will destroy them. Well done lads a draw was the least we could've asked for.

Re: Unlucky tonight

Agreed - a bit unlucky. Just about our best line-up in my opinion and a shame Flynn had to go off. Was there anybody standing in the corners who can say whether any of the 2 late efforts were over the line? How we need a goalmouth "poacher" who can stay cool in the box and convert some of our great openings!

Shame on you stop-at-homes : the ground should have been bursting at the seams tonight, but well done to the Ultras who kept the lads going to the end. A good game all round and Stanley matched the visitors in every aspect of the game except for the usual failings in front of goal.

Re: Unlucky tonight

I was standing in the corner and the second one was definitely over the line.

Don't know about the first one. All I can say is that we've been robbed out of at least a point.

JEFF 08-12-2004 08:47

Re: Unlucky tonight

Second one looked over the line but it was scooped out by the hand of a Carlisle defender, so if it wasn't a goal it should have been a penalty and a sending off.

LeeVarender 08-12-2004 10:10

Re: Unlucky tonight

It was scooped out by the "Keeper" Jeff.

AccyMad 08-12-2004 11:59

Re: Unlucky tonight

The lads played really well tonight & deserved at least a point from the game - the linesman must have seen that the second shot was not saved off the line but from about 1 foot beyond it!! Saying that the same linesman had earlier given a throw in to Carlisle only to have it overturned by the ref - think he needs his eyes checking!!

Redraine 08-12-2004 12:06

Re: Unlucky tonight

Extremely good match report on the Carlisle official website via our home page. I have never seen an opposing side given so much credit.

Congratulations Coley for picking the right team at last. We just need a little bit of luck to be really flying again!

The original attempt was scooped out by the keeper, then the ball was played towards the goal again and it was then scooped out by the defender. I was standing on the Clayton end just to the left of the goals, coudn't miss it.

We just need a little bit of BETTER FINISHING, and a little bit of BETTER DEFENDING to be really flying again.

Re: Unlucky tonight

A full blooded performance last night!

My only concern/worry was Paul Mullins isolation at times, we seemed to adopt a 4-5-1 formation too easily and at the wrong time.

Just my thoughts!

Steven 08-12-2004 14:07

Re: Unlucky tonight

i dont think we played to bad but why is there no pride and passion in our team

If we would have had them goal mouth scrambled a few seasons ago when we were part time somebody would have just chucked their body into it but instaed we have craney mully and evil all trying to neatly place it into the back off the net why didnt they just hoof it in

But another good performance form an opposition goalkeeper a few of his saves were fantastic!!!

baldy 08-12-2004 18:17

Re: Unlucky tonight

well as coley said in the non league paper on sunday we have to work on our
shooting and they must have been doing it as were getting closer to goal hahaha

yeah nice to see the team play good football and nice to see rory back and scoring

Re: Unlucky tonight

I agree I think our first half performance yesterday was top drawer. Probably the best we have played all season both home and away. But in the second half we threw away too many chances yet again and it cost us yet again.

We could do with a game like Saturdays at Horwich and drub them scoring 3+ a real confidence booster thats what we really need at the moment.

Smiffy16 08-12-2004 18:45

Re: Unlucky tonight

And I'll say I thought Paul Howarth last night played very well covering for Cav.....

Re: Unlucky tonight

I was standing in the corner near the Burger Bar, just coz some so called fans decided that they wanted to stand in the aisles just in front. Where were the stewards. from my viewpoint on the goal line, the ball did NOT cross the line on either occasion, but I cannot confirm whether the ball was kept out by a defender's hand.'fraid the liner got it spot on. Very good game, but seem to been outnumbered by Carlisle fans. This should not happen. Good to see over 3,000 but when 1700 approx came down from the frozen north, then by my calculations that means only just over 1300 Stanley fans. Where were the rest, especially as Rovers and Burnley did not have a game. NO EXCUSE. Nice to see Coley adopted 4-4-2 spot on, just a shame we could not convert the chances we had.

Carlisle had less than 1700. They were given 1700 the Coppice & all of the Whinney Hill but only SOLD just over 1000! I'd say there were 1250 Carlisle there............. you work it out

Anyway, its quality not quantity - why would you want loads of Blackburn & Burnley....:)

We had better flags........... & a better pre match display.....& double the amount of drums they have. For a little club like Stanley we are doing ok off the pitch. You'll fill it when the results come.

STANLEY ULTRAS FOREVER....................

They had one drum and we had two, very good. Whilst I appreciate what you are doing with the flags, etc. It's the performance ON the pitch that matters not off the pitch. We are getting a steady 1200 home supporters each game. The only way we will increase this is by winning games, people love to be associated with winners.

We want Blackburn & Burnley and basically anybody. At £10.00 per head they are all welcome. I think we need quantity - the more the merrier. Woud you rather have 500 quality supporters than 1500 quantity supporters, if so we wouldn't last long in the Conference.

I was sat exectly on the line (well in the stand but you know what i mean) and the ball didnt cross the line 100% beither time. the ball needs to be completely over for it to be a goal. but the second one WAScleared by the defender's hand

Thats good then:)

Lets see how we get on Saturday - we'll have more away then home fans there, & better flags, & more.........etc ...etc .....:)

Unfortunately, messers JC & JB (& the players) are the only people that control what happens on the pitch. As a supporter I can only have an influence OFF the pitch. We will do that to the best of our ability & it will increase the amount of people that attend. If the atmosphere is good - win, lose or draw - we will gain new fans.....

Loyal & regular support is something that doesn't happen overnight but we are heading in the right direction. :)

I'll repeat "I can't influence anything on the pitch but can do my level best OFF it!":D

This isn't a dig Jeff, nut what do you intend to achieve by negativity on this forum. Any potential fans will be put off if they hear all the doom & gloom when we are 7 points off second place.;)

On Stanley On

Jase, FGR was my first match for a few weeks. The flags and the noise from the Stanley fans was fantastic. You're doing a great job. Keep it up, mate.

Don't really understand what you mean by "nut what do you intend to achieve"

I don't intend to achieve anything, I am just putting my opinion and being REALISTIC. I am not being negative or spreading doom and gloom I am stating the obvious. OK we are eight points off second place - but we have played two more games than Carlisle. Carlisle have lost two games, we have lost eight games. We have only picked up eight points from the last eight games - hardly promotion or play off form. Hopefully we may get better results now that Rory is back. You can have as many flags as you want and make as much noise as you want but the crowd will only increase when we have a winning team. People will follow a winning team. I think you are doing a brilliant job with the flags and drums - keep up the good work but as far as current form is concerned we have to be realistic. Let's hope that we aren't let down on Saturday at Leigh and that we do to them what we should have done to them in the FA Cup - give them a good hammering.

Perhaps the substitution of the word 'but' with the word 'nut', was a Freudian slip? :D

I certainly hope that it was because I wouldn't like to think that he meant nut, please explain yourself Mr. Willie Miller.

nut equates to but............

only when I type it could be "tut" "fut" or "lut" depending on how late I am for my next appointmentt

Do you get what I am saying though, all a supporter can do is support.the rest is in the lap of the gods, the refs, the weather, the players, chairman etc etc. I'd just hate to see this messageboard if we were in a relegation fight thats all, no offence mate & your input is obviously very welcome, as is mine with my misspelt wordes..............:)

JEFF 10-12-2004 15:25

Re: Unlucky tonight

No offence taken. Nut when I type it sometimes comes out as Sillie Miller, or Frillie Miller, or Millie Willer - anything can happen.
Seriously though, I can only say what I think, we all want the best for Stanley and on the day we all shout for Stanley and support them, but after the match we have to have our moans. I may comment about individual performances, tactics, etc. but on the day of the match you will not hear me slagging off any player or manager, I only give them support.

Anyway, keep it going with the flags and drums and hopefully we can get someone to play the trumpet.
