From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Ah, Cambridge. The birth place of Association Football. A small square of grass I've run round whilst training for some marathon a few years back. Nestling beneath the historic colleges inhabited by la crime de la creme of the nation's Young boffins.
But brains, architecture and history will count for nowt when Cambridge are soundly spanked tomorrow night. I suspect Bradley will be missing for them? He wasn't even on the bench on Saturday, which is a shame - I loved that man- so we just need to keep Piero quiet so they don't get any consolation goals. The only questions for me are who will that be and who can possibly fill Sean's boots? |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Hopefully the portugese lads clearance is through,
|
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Matty P at LB to look after Piero, Rogers in the middle and Rommy at right back.
Clarke on the left wing and Clare on the right side of midfield. Rest of team as per Saturday. |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Piero will swop wings, if necessary, so Stanley's full backs, whoever they may be, need to be aware of this.

Both Halliday and Mingoia played on Saturday - although Mingoia was subbed after 69 mins.
|
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Let's hope Piero was subbed because of a slight niggly injury - nothing serious, obviously - just enough to keep him out tomorrow night :)
|
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
hope he plays tomorrow night. like to see him play again. if he does i,m sure he,ll get a good welcolm. one i,d have back as quick as possible.
|
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
I've no doubt Piero will get a proper welcome if he plays & rightly so, if he'd come back of course we'd have him in a heartbeat but I don't think that's gonna happen.
The only reason I'd prefer him not to play tomorrow is I just don't like seeing ex players who've been favourites & so good for us playing for the opposition - no logic in it I know but still . . . . |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Pierro did for Stanley at the away game! Then again missing two penalties probably did more damage.

Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Why can't we rest Billy as he is still out of sorts. Edwards should be getting more match time in than he is. Put Matty back in his own position as it was clear on saturday that Matty being out of position unsettled the team.We have to allow some fresh blood onto the pitch. If the Don is to played he is by far better playing on the wing in a forward position. That is where I have really noticed him at his best. We have the talent but we need to be a bit braver in our choices. Substitutions are left too late IMO. We have proved over the last 10 games we can be as good or better than last season. Cambridge are slipping a little. We have a 3 pointer if we really want it.

Brown is out for 5 games unless I am mistaken. Coneely looks like he won't be fit and you have not named a keeper! My choice would be; Rodak Rodgers Beckles Hughes Pearson Clarke Coneely (if fit)(or Davies) Donacien McConville McCarten Kee I would also write in the plan to definitely use the subs from 55 minutes onwards with Boco at the ready to come into virtually any position other than centre back and Edwards, Gornell, Shaw, Lacey and Hewitt ready to be used too.:jimbo: |

Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
I wouldnt call it a great game but we werent ever really in any danger tonight. I'd go so far as to say we won without hitting third gear.
Positive? McCarten is starting to look the player we were all told he could be. Negative? Beckles isnt a shadow of the player he was in the first ten fifteen games. Shalm we put it down to the daft hairstyle? Matty, pun him down, give him a no 2 cut and release the beast pleast |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
The boy Rodgers had a great game tonight. The defence is so solid.
Matty P still lost in midfield. The difference between him and Noor is vast. I really rate our new midfield general. I really enjoyed the second half - got a bit bored during the first. we deserved 3 points. |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Was a good team display i thought, left wondering how the hell Cambridge are above us??They never really threatened our goal!! mind there best player was injured and didn't play, but even so, 2 good goals and coulda been 3/4 more.well done reds onward and upward.

Seriously though, really enjoyed tonight's game - was a but nervous when they brought Barry Corr on as he always seems to score against us but needn't have worried, our lads were in the main well in control of the game & even the ref didn't fluff up too much. Up to 13th & with a plus one goal difference - brilliant stuff! Onwards & upwards Stanley:) |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington

Thought tonight was a real 'team' performance & everyone played their part. Harvey Rodgers put in a real shift, making last minute tackles & heading more balls than both teams combined. McCarten & Clark were again outstanding, terrorising the opposition defence. The whole defence, including Chapman, were superb & super Sean chipped in with the vital opener. Billy Kee gave his usual unselfish 100% for the team. But one player who I feel deserves special mention is Noor Husin. He went about his allotted midfield task in a quiet, professional manner, making some important interceptions & even better killer passes to the forwards. Who knows how far this momentum will carry us? |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
I know it's personal but made up for Jordan Clark. Some loon was saying get shut a few weeks ago - madness.
Just needs to add a few goals and Accy have a gem on their hands. |

Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Well what a great advert for League 2 football that was. Both teams getting the ball down and passing it. Probably one of the best performances I've seen from ALL the Stanley players out there tonight. Difficult to single anyone out so I'm not going to. Anybody criticising any of the players must have been watching a different game to me, we were terrific!!!!!!!We played some fantastic football, one touch passes, great movement, brilliant performance.
I must applaud the Cambridge team who never gave up and kept trying to play football and create chances right up until the end. :D |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
A well earned three points tonight.:alright:
After a difficult start for both teams in the pouring rain we then started to take control and scored a deserved goal on 19 minutes in front of the Clayton End!:dummy2:On nineteen minutes after some good attacking play Clarke got the ball about eight yards out and held on to it superbly, trying to find a shot, then he laid it on a plate for Sean Mac to power the ball into the net. We only looked at risk an odd time when Omar was just being a bit too casual on the ball in the greasy underfoot conditions. Gradually we took charge of the match and started to play our trademark passing game. Billy was winning a lot in the air in spite of the usual physical treatment he was getting from the Cambridge centre backs. Shay was playing full of confidence and he was driving at their defence constantly with a hunger for goals! On the balance of play we probably deserved to be two up at half time.:theband::mosher: The game continued in the second half in similar fashion and Clarke was doing some great things down the wings interplaying triangular passing movements with Billy and Shay to good effect. Cambridge made three substitutions more or less simultaneously and they became quite physical in their efforts to get back into the match. I thought that the referee had done quite well up to this point but he let a few things go that he should have dealt with. The game could have boiled over at this time but Stanley's calmness and coolness, exemplified by a masterful performance by Hughes at the back, kept us well on top and we coped really well. :jimbo::alright: Harvey Rodgers was a having a tremendous second half too and his ability to 'Watch the Ball' and time his tackles was just superb. It was certainly a good lesson for all youngsters in how to play at full back! He was also marauding forward in the lovely passing sequences that we were creating.:alright: The second goal was a peach! Billy collected the ball forty yards out and played a super diagonal pass for Shay to run onto and into the penalty box before slotting it into the net across the advancing keeper. Well deserved as Shay had another cracking game tonight! All the Stanley players played well tonight and although Coley did not use any subs you can see how he is just happy to keep the eleven playing so sweetly. I think it was a close call between Shay and Harvey for the MOM award but Shay was given it over the Tannoy tonight.:jimbo::alright: At times tonight our football was scintillating and a joy to watch!:thepint::bow8::bow8: ONWARD AND UPWARD:s_gupjump:s_gupjump:s_gupjump ON STANLEY ON:wave8::drink::signbeer: |

Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
The Rollercoaster, a ride which thrilled me week after week is,or so it would appear, totally redundant and out of operation!.
Why ?..because our team is so predictable !. One leaves the ground after a game, having watched for the umpteenth time the Reds remaining unbeaten. One notices the sea of despondent faces of the visiting team's fans heading towards their transport and thinks, whilst stifling a yawn...how predictable is this !. One reads the heaps of glowing praise on our Forum, and apart from a few tongue in cheek posts regarding the quality of Pies, with not a 'sack Coley' bleat to be seen anywhere, the thought 'how predictable' springs to mind once again !. STANLEY you are so predictable !! And I for one just love it !!. |

Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Really enjoyed the game and the weather gave the passing plenty of zip.
Cambridge are a decent team but Acci were on their game and thoroughly deserved the three points. What a player Harvey is turning into, must admit i was on the fence whether he needed to "fill out"a little for league two football, but thats been put to bed !! Ticks all the boxes and he will move up the divisions if he stays clear of injuries. Billy seems to have rediscovered his appetite for the game and put a real shift in. Must admit i am going against a few posters, but i have been impressed how Matty has coped with playing in midfield after only a couple of games. He played a massive part in pinning them back for large periods of the game and was a threat when he sprung forward ( instrumental in the first goal). Indeed,he was inches away from scoring a third. The balance of the team looked good, but the captain has to come back into the side at the weekend, hes simply one of our best players |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Coneely back - I agree. But not at the expense of Husin.
That means Pearson comes back for: Rodgers - unthinkable Beckles - you must be joking Hughes - not in the dependable and cool form he's in The Don - please, not him, he's cooking on gas again Who's it going to be? |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Donacien out and Matty at LB.
|
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Matty's passing was not great last night (I thought).
What really stood out was how much Husin was in the game. Always the right place at the right time. The play seemed to pass Matty by quite a lot. I think Husin's shooting prowess is dreadful though.... almost embarrassing against Grimsby. On another note, Chappers has clearly been reading this forum and showed that he could be a decent outfield player when he cleverly turned one of their forwards in our penalty area. It was actually the only heart stopping moment throughout. Really enjoyed the injury time singing from the Clayton End. A very rare time when they knew the game was safe and vocal harmonies could be allowed free rein. I must admit that one of the downsides of McCartan's goal rampage is that the awful "Shay MCartan Baby" song gets so many airings. Finally, a couple of questions: 1. Anyone ask Matty Crooks when he's coming back? 2. Why were Coley and Derry shouting at each other? |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Beckles out and drop Matty back, to me Omar takes far too many risks and makes too many mistakes
|
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Just thought Matty was very effective last night, surging run down the left channel for the first goal, burst through the middle and made the defender hesitant for Shays goal and was a whisker away from a tap in for a deserved third goal following another lung bursting run.
He just ticks all the boxes for me and can attack as well as defend. Husain did well covering his forward runs, been impressed with him as well. |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Might sound like I am dreaming but....
Matty Pearson is beginning to remind of....... ...one Duncan Edwards:jimbo: |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
To answer your second question Lord D, the altercation between Coley & their manager was over what appeared to be an elbow in the face of one of our players by one of theirs - as far as i could hear Coley queried why nothing was done about it & their 'discussion', liberally sprinkled with the 'f' word, was over whether or not it was deliberate. Nothing but handbags in the end though

Slightly longer highlights. How good is it to see our players driving forward and terrorising a defence like that?! |

Even though out of position Mr Rodgers is in outstanding form at the moment, so for me either keep him at right full back and bring Matty back to left back OR drop the aforementioned Mr Beckles where he belongs on the bench and go; MATTY HARVEY HUGHESIE DON |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
I could have sworn I read on here about Beckles going to the championship or the premier league, some real dreamers about
|
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
the dreamers are those that that forget that Young Omar won MOTM every week for four months, that he's the key man in a defence that's conceded 3 goals in 6 games since his return from suspension.
I think he's become more consistent of late, but since Hughes has finally got his act together and the impressive Rodgers has come in he's just not as outstanding and doesn't have to take on everything on his own shoulders. It's also his first season in the league. Got to be The Don v Matty for that left back spot. |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
Biggest defensive improvement is Rodak.
Defense now know that the keepers not going to drop a clanger. Even on Tuesday the ball never seemed completely under Chapman's control. Hughes has been immense recently. |
Re: From Parker's Piece Cambridge to Wham Accrington
The tone was set in that first game of the season when we were given the runaround and alas poor Chappers had a stinker. It may have made the defence nervous for the first half of the season as our two dodgy keepers were rotated, until Rodak came in and confidence was allowed to return.
Since things are steadier now, it's not too bad with Chappers back in. The defence protect him better (especially crosses in) and there's comfort in knowing if he does concede there's a good chance of scoring down the other end. Possibly relaxes him, and the rest of the team? |
