Blackpool Away!
Without skipping Crewe...Who's going blackpool, Easter Friday?
Don't want to jinx it but the weather nerds are expecting it to be a scorcher! Let's get every man and his dog over to Blackpool and make it almost like a home game! |
Re: Blackpool Away!
would it not be easier to ask who's not going?

Re: Blackpool Away!
Take it the supporters club coach will drop off at the ground.
Are there any away-fan friendly pubs in the vicinity? Or do we hit the golden mile????? Hourly express trains (53 mins) to Blackpool North from Accy for speed merchants. |
Re: Blackpool Away!
Have a look on the Football Ground guide website, there's recommendations on there for pubs near the ground

Most Stanley heading for the Manchester Bar from noon I believe. I may partake of an extra bevvy for Deeayess as I'm making a weekend of it
|
Re: Blackpool Away!
For those who prefer rail to road, Blackpool South Station is much closer to the ground.
Although this means using the Colne-Blackpool South 'boneshaker', which will be packed with families visiting the pleasure beach, being a bank holiday. There's also a Wetherspoons pub - The Auctioneer; under 5 minutes walk from the south station. The map on the website (previous post) shows locations of all hostelries near the ground. |
Re: Blackpool Away!
Making a day of it and Blackpool in the same sentence? Call me a complete snob but It's really not the place it was in the 1940s you know.
Altogether now...."with me little stick of Blackpool rock, along the promenade I stroll. It may be sticky but I never complain, it's nice to have a nibble at it now and again" |

Re: Blackpool Away!
Pretty excited about Friday. Just been perusing the fixtures of Exeter and Carlisle who look to have easy games against our-of-form teams (Barnet and Hartlepool). It's looking like a must win.
The team will presumably pick itself, apart from JC tossing a coin again to decide on Husin v the Don? If Matty P has metamorphosised into Zinedene Zidane like I'm told he has then I think the Don will be back. Also keeping an eye on the weather. Why does it have to be bloody Blackpool on Easter Friday? Hopefully the dismal weather may persuade people that there's better things in life than a tray of soggy chips and getting cold on a crumbling pier. I would consider going there early to avoid traffic, but what is there to do?. I've been there several times in the past (presumably must have been nagged rotten by one of the kids, or just a severe mental aberration of not remembering how awful it was the last time) and always come away feeling hugely depressed. I quite like faded seaside glamour, but I'll make an exception for Blackpool. Maybe if I was 18 and out for beer and scrapping, or 90 and in the mood for bingo and nostalgia....god, it's hard being grumpy middle aged. Anyway, nowt makes you change your mind about a place like 3 points. Come 5pm and you might witness a deleriously drunk old dodderer dressed only in a kiss me quick hat, undies and Stanley scarf splashing happily about in the sewage and seaweed shouting "in't football brilliant". |
Re: Blackpool Away!
Don will start on the bench, Husin will be replaced with brown other than that same squad
|
Re: Blackpool Away!
'Why does it have to be bloody Blackpool on Easter Friday?'
A bit harsh. It could have been Stevenage. Still if its good enough for the Stone Roses.. Try watching Funny Bones before you go to get in the mood of the place. 'If Matty P has metamorphosised (sic)into Zinedine Zidane like I'm told he has then I think the Don will be back.' Think more Roy Keane. |
Re: Blackpool Away!
I would rather be going to Blackpool good Friday rather than southports away game at Dover.

Initial allocation of tickets sent to Accy have now been sold to the Red Army!!
Blackpool are making a further 1000 + tickets available from the away ticket booth ( near the away turnstiles), but it's cash only!! Suspect this will be the largest ASFC away following ever.:) |

Anyone else finding it hard to concentrate on anything apart from the big match tomorrow? Not a chance in hell that we won't win. I reckon our entire season has been a dress rehearsal for the glory of these last five matches.
600 tickets? what the blazes will the other 30,000 residents be doing tomorrow? Washing their cars and going to the Trafford centre? Insanity. This is history in the making. Us to win by a huge margin. Not a shred of doubt. |

Remember, the boycott bully boys were the same ones who were calling for a total boycott of our home game earlier in the season. Thankfully, it didn't happen, but they would have been happy to see zero Pool fans at the Wham - and blow the consequences for the home club! This is our first league visit to Bloomfield Road and it seems hypocritical to ask our fans not to buy match programs or pies just to spite the owners. It's up to each individual to follow their own conscious, but if buying a souvenir program or a Pukka pie adds to your enjoyment of the day, then so what! If bankruptcy is their aim, I can't see a few program & pie sales keeping em afloat! |

The next best thing to a victory is a clean sheet scoreless draw.
Considering the opposition & a brilliant penalty save, I think todays result was top-notch. Most of the teams above drew. Who'd have thought doomed Orient would get a 2-2 draw at Luton, and Morecambe did us a big favour beating Satanage! Unbeaten in 14 - the dream goes on. |
Re: Blackpool Away!
One of the best 0-0 I've seen for a while.
Two evenly matched teams and end to end football. Blackpool had the edge in wide areas and played some decent football but I always felt we had the measure of them. No team gave an inch in terms of competing and there was some great battles, especially Tom and Billy. Thought Shay would cause them a lot of problems, but it just never went his way. Thought Matty did ok and was unlucky with the penalty decision going against him, think he just run out of legs after bursting away from the half way line. Take the point and move on |
Re: Blackpool Away!
Not the best performance but a good second half. We had some chances (esp Sean early on, and Matty P who raced clear but mis controlled it).
Decent point. A win would have been mega. Still hanging on in there. What an atmosphere though. 1000 fans. |
Re: Blackpool Away!
has brett ormerod said on the radio the ref had the whistle in his mouth and forgot to blow
|
Re: Blackpool Away!
My opinion for what it's worth, and it may have been clouded by the odd whisky or two, was it was a stick on penalty but never the less a good point and other results more or less went our way
|
Re: Blackpool Away!
The ref bottled it - end of. He had his whistle in his mouth but I think the linesman was chuntering in his ear piece.
Draw a fair result. |
Re: Blackpool Away!
Stand out players? Young Harvey, the Don....Omar and Hughes also did ok. Just never really clicked former the rest of them. Kee was a target man for a succession of high balls he could never win and Clark and Seany were observers for much of the match. Matty P actually had a decent second half.
Would you have used any subs? Edwards possibly for Kee? I would have liked Husin to come on but with Matty growing into the game probably no point. |
Re: Blackpool Away!
Fair result, as usual with a coley team i was impressed how we went for the win second half(at the risk of conceding) against a quick Blackpool team who could counter attack. Impressed the way Tom aldred came over to the Stanley end like he did at the end of game.
it must be hard as a blackpool fan at the game, remembering how they had it bouncing in the Holloway era compared to now where the away end make most of the noise and their fans are spread sporadically around the ground. Sent from my XT1039 using Tapatalk |
Re: Blackpool Away!
Let's see how many of the 1000 fans return to the wham for a non derby match
|
Re: Blackpool Away!
Not being cruel when I say this but we needed a cultured midfielder not combative. They bossed the middle of the park for long periods.
One of those things when the best two chances fell to Pearson. McCartan McConville Clark or Kee would have buried the one on one. |
Re: Blackpool Away!
Much as I would have preferred the more cultured Husin in midfield (especially the first half) I think credit is due to Matty P for getting the chances in the first place. Didn't he also create a chance with a header back at the far post? It's probably a bit simplistic to assume the other players would have buried the one-on-one at the end of a sprint from the half way line.
In the first half Matty appeared a bit slow to me. Anyone agree? I thought it was probably that he's not as quick off the mark as Brown, say, or maybe can't read the midfield quickly enough. Don't really know why I thought he did better second half. Maybe because the game opened up a bit more for him, or just because we were going forward more? |

Re: Blackpool Away!
I thought that we were second-best for much of the game with Blackpool dominating the midfield. Matty is a magnificent player - but not in midfield. We desperately needed someone like Delfouneso. McCartan and McConville made no impact whatsoever on the game.
I still feel that the use (or non-use) of substitutes remains Coley's Achilles heel. The game was crying out for a change after an hour. Gary Bowyer made 2 substitutions about then - and one later in the game. It always gives the opposition something different to think about and contend with. It's a pity that none of the video highlights seems to show the denial of what looked like a certain penalty when Slocombe brought down Matty Pearson. As chevyfire says, it was good to see Tom Aldred come over to the Stanley fans at the end. Such a pity that some had booed him during the game. Otherwise, a great turnout by the Stanley fans. |
Re: Blackpool Away!
think I was at a different match. I found it boring with the very odd patch of excitement, Good penalty save though. Bringing on subs may have helped us.

greeny - I thought it was one of the duller matches this season. Too much high ball stuff.
|
Re: Blackpool Away!
For my two pennyworth I thought Blackpool were better & quicker than us in the first half, cagey at times with both teams setting out not to lose.
Second half was much better from our lads, overall a draw was probably a fair result but if that super strike of Billy's had gone in & the ref hadn't been so inept regarding our penalty it could've been a very different story. Other results were kind to us though & with some of those around us playing each other on Monday, if we win who knows what could happen? Last word for our brilliant support - fantastic to be a part of it, I didn't hear anyone booing Tom but if they did I agree there was no need, the lad always gave 100% for us & he showed the regard he still has for the club & our fans at the end. |
Re: Blackpool Away!
Decent day out, but I prefer away days without a drum and borderline homophobic chanting.
I thought the ref had given the free kick/pen, but it was a shocking touch just before that giving the goalie an even chance. The pathetic Arsenal fans would have been better not turning up. |

Re: Blackpool Away!
Got to disagree about Mattys performance yesterday, despite being out numbered in the middle of the park in the first half,he constantly tried to influence the game in terms of attack and defending.
Out of all the central midfielders (both sides),who created more chances ? Very hard to get near good players when they have an extra man,but he worked hard to get dragged around whilst retaining shape, which in turn limited their chances. One thing about the lad, playing well or not,he doesn't go hiding!!! |

Lowered the tone somewhat, but when you've got that many fans on the pop before the match it's probably predictable. Not sure why it's sung: A tired old insult that's neither funny nor insulting really. Just a bit embarrassing for those daft enough to sing it.
On the positive side, loads of great upbeat singing and drumming and general all round good behaviour as per usual. |

It's the same with that song as it is blatantly homophobic, we just haven't accepted it yet as such because homophobia hasn't reached the same focus. If it's that innocent and banter, would you sing it at Andy Woodward if he was playing and if not why not? I've sang far worse many years ago in a different time that I wouldn't anymore as times change and so does what's acceptable. I agree about the Jim Harvey one, that is bad! |
Re: Blackpool Away!
Sorry if I'm a bit thick but who's Andy Woodward?
As far back as I can remember the turkey song hasn't been sung to someone who's known to bat for the other side so to speak, but usually to someone who's pee'ed off our fans, e.g. Paul Cook, Paul Ince, etc., etc., . . . . . . . . Oh, & Tony Roberts who used to love it & played to his audience :) |
