Re: Doncaster match thread.

I think I've got this right ….

Bradford and Walsall can't catch us. Worst case 22nd.
Scunthorpe have to play Plymouth. If they draw, neither of them can catch us. Safe (regardless of our result against Plymouth)!!
Otherwise, whichever one loses can't catch us. Worst case 21st.
If we take a point off Plymouth, they can't catch us. And if they then just don't lose to Scunny, we're safe again - because ….
Scunny need to win both their remaining games (the other one's Bradford) to pass us.
And so do Wimbledon (v Wycombe and Bradford)
Southend need a win and a draw (v Rochdale and Sunderland) to catch us.
And Wycombe, Bristol Rovers, Shrewsbury and Rochdale need a point to pass us.

So …. we aren't absolutely safe  - but it would need a horrible combination of results for us to go down now.

On Stanley On!!

Lots of ifs and buts there Chimer, makes for an interesting end to the season though.
Here's the way I see it ending. Rochdale and Stanley 54 pts, Shrews 53, Gills and Wycombe 52, Rovers and Plymouth 50, Scuny 49, Wimbledon 48. Southend 47, Walsall 43 and Bradford 38. Of course it won't but as long as we're above 4th I'll take it.

Smith up front against Luton's spoiling game would not have worked as the Ref was giving us nowt. Tonight a fair Ref, a good pitch and two teams wanting to play football.

KiTChener 24-04-2019 00:20

Re: Doncaster match thread.

Got to say, the pitch made all the difference tonight, what a brilliant surface, especially at this stage of the season, allowing us to play at our best, along with opponents who play football, rather than some of the brutish bullies we seem to encounter on a more regular basis. Hopefully Andy will not regret his decision to spend 300k to provide us with a similar facility for next season IN LEAGUE ONE!

And, in answer to another poster who wondered why Smyth didn't feature against Luton..... no-one can dribble/run at pace on the ploughed field that doubles as our current pitch, tonight he showed what he can do, given the right facilities.

Also good to see Janoi on the right, he had, IMHO, the best game I have seen him since his return. Big Ben on the left also performed better than he has done in recent times.... in fact, every single one of them 'stepped up to the plate', and thoroughly deserve to continue to play at this level next season!

Wish we could keep them all, but, inevitably, there will be changes in personnel come next season, but, 'Keep the Faith', Coley will ensure that we have suitable replacements for those that either return to parent clubs, or provide Andy with sufficient funds to keep improving, on or off the pitch!

Re: Doncaster match thread.

Imagine not liking football!!

Unbelievable away day.
Every single player showed pride, passion, belief and commitment.
Can't say a bad word about anyones performance last night.
Conneely covered every blade of grass on that pitch, did the dirty work, dug in, showed so much desire to win every ball he challenged for.
Even had a giggle when he found himself 20 yards out for the second time and had the confidence to have a go at goal, after panicking that he couldn't find a backwards or sideways pass (I joke!!)
Billy must have won 90% of balls played into him. How he shows so much control for a small lad is incredible. Dropped deep and worked tirelessly for the team.
For the opposition and the pitch, playing Smyth worked well.
Funny that when it works people are quick to jump on the 'always should play 2 up front bandwagon' ..... worked really well at home vs Fleetwood & Rochdale didn't it. (back in your box please ;) )

The scenes at the end gave me goosebumps.
Coleys passion and enthusiasm were evident, as was Jimmy's and John Doolan's.

Finally, glad to see McConville have another great game....
Not his biggest fan. Not my favourite player.
Don't like criticising other players either when their talent is evident.

However, for those select few.....

McConville. 11 Goals 7 Assists.
Clark. 6 Goals 6 Assists.

McConville has played nearly 3 hours less football than Clark.
Not League 1 standard anyone??!!?!

And for the record, I think Clark has the technique and ability to play Championship football.

Good solid performance. First half we exceeded expectations and Donny were awful.
Donny had their golden 15 mins start of second half and then after that we managed the game really well.
First for me last night. Yellow card rescinded a minute after given.
Didn't realise what had gone off - I was sat in the stand opposite - until after the game.
McCann up to his tricks causing problems ......

Lord Didsbury 24-04-2019 11:43

Re: Doncaster match thread.

the iFollow commentators were expecting 6-7 mins injury time. I must admit I expected a lot more than two!

There was a goal, and one booking, and a delay whilst the ref had to quell some argy bargy in the goal mouth. We were wasting time a lot, but on reflection that might just have been deemed to be on the right side of the law. eg, Maxted walking slowly to the other corner of the box to take goal kicks.

to his credit the ref booked Donacien fot time wasting in the first half and then rescinded it after much protesting from stanley players and management.

the ifollow commentators were fairly honest with their views. I don't remember them complaining about the ref either.

You have realised that Sean has exclusivity on every set piece ?
Do you not see how that can produce better stats ?
And that's what it is. Stats for stats sake.
Fail to see the relevance of comparing him to Clark. What about Finlay for instance ?
Sean played great last night but have to say he missed a sitter in between goals.

Re: Doncaster match thread.

Kee had a great game. Best of the season I would say.

McConville is just a class player. As a fan of only 4 seasons I'm baffled there is any debate ALTHOUGH I do recall that at first I was pleased when he was dropped for Fosu.
I'm also not aware that any Accy fans don't like him. I never hear anything bad on the terraces and on this forum all you get is some accusations that some fans are McConville haters.

Cashy, for example, gets flack for hating McConville, but apart from an occasional grumble, if he does it's been well disguised whilst I've been on here.

I think they’re both excellent players. Sean obviously can’t do no right for some people and thats fair enough, they’re entitled to their opinion. However I think he’s had a pretty solid season. He’s someone who can be relied upon.
Clark has also been pretty solid and chipped in with a few good goals.
Think everyone has been through the poor 3 month spell and it would be easy to pick on ANY player and say how bad they’ve been for that spell.
Anyway, good performance last night from both.

Think we have only scored 1 or 2 from a set piece anyway haha ;)
Stats don't tell the full story, I'm aware of that.
Was more of a comparison to make the Sean doubters aware, so to speak.
And believe me, I've heard alot of negative comments about him (games and forum)

Oh, and it's more relevant to compare a winger to another winger rather than a CM?

Janoi was asked by the Donny players to wait before taking the throw in because one of their lads appeared to have a cut.
He did so ....... then their gaffer gets at the referee to book him for time wasting !

At least the ref realised what had gone on.

100%. One thing I have noticed from us this season is a lack of a set piece 'routine'
Appreciate different standard, but look at the success England had from corners at the World Cup. Every corner was a different set up.

Seen some really, really well worked Free Kick's this season from opposition too.

Surely the lads could spend 30 mins after training devising some of these, instead of the usual scenarios.

Surprised Barlaser doesn't take more free kicks.
Also, as much as I love him, Ross should never take a free kick in our defensive half ever again.

5 OUTSTANDING players last season, and theyve had grief on here this season ... McConville, Clark, Hughes, Donacien and Kee. They arent bad players overnight. Weve tinkered, terrible pitch half the season (the bad form half), and we've stepped up massively. Half the league will have narrowly avoided relegation by only a point or two more than us - thats because the top 5 have been pretty awesome this season.

All in all Im happy this season
