Everyone can make mistakes, but the Reffing standard has really gone down this last 20 years, cannot understand why?

Simple, Cashy, no-one wants the job!

I watch my under twelves grandson play on Saturday & Sunday mornings, the refs are normally 16-18yr olds, they are still learning their trade, but they don’t half get criticised from some of the dads! (Mainly justified, but, do they, at that age, have decent training, or are they just expected to ‘learn on the job’)?

Standards haven’t gone down, you’ve just older and more cantankerous I’d bet?

Unquestionably linesman standards have improved.

I’m pretty sure there’s some research showing ref standards have improved. Not that there’s much point trying to find and post this evidence, when you lot would prefer a few dodgy anecdotes to statistics.

not a matter of ref hating at all, theres a conference ref stands with us when he aint got a match, and he would disagree big time with all that bull. i would rather take notice of what he tells us than you,

fast track promotion is one. forget that bull **** from the referees association. still an active referee and the lowest i get paid is 25 quid for running the line for wednesday afternoon college games for a start. promotion is not a long drawn out process either. you can go from level 6 straight to 4 if you pass the fitness test which i managed to do at over 50 and i,ve never been a runner. they have mentors, coaches and county f.a.,s have their own referee centres of excellence. then what do you get is the likes of oldham who was doing conference north games only a few short years ago. when ex north west county players who have reached the great age of 24 and told they are too old to do anything but local football you know you have a problem.
