Re: Oxford

Earlier in the season when we played Oxford at home I thought that they were excellent. They had good runs in the cups too and it came as no surprise that we struggled a bit against them last night.
I presume that Mark Hughes was out due to injury last night. I noticed on Saturday against Rotherham, near the end of the first half, that he hobbled out of our penalty area after an attack was repelled. This could explain his inability to get a header in during the build up of Rotherham’s second goal.
The team must have missed his experience and positional play last night. Sykes has been defending well all season under the watchful eye of Hughes but I imagine he missed his experienced partner last night.
Like others have said, just get on with the next match and concentrate on getting each set of three points.
ON STANLEY ON
KEEP THE FAITH.

Oxford's midfield have so much time and space it's unbelievable !.

REDS !.. YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS !.

Our problem wasn't midfield in fact they did ok apart from distribution. The age old issue of missing absolute sitters was the problem.
Last night was Charles turn to take the Zanzala award for sitters.
We also missed Hughes.
I dont think Opoku is remotely interested .... unless its just his body language.
On to the next one.
They will be fired up after the mauling at ours.

Agree with all of the above, 28, although poor distribution from midfield was a pretty significant problem.
Also thought Opoku look uninterested and/or not fully fit, but Alese appeared to do his best to stand in for much missed Hughes.

As 28 wrote, difficult to tell from Opoku’s body language, which can appear ‘leisurely’. Maybe he thought he should have been CB? Or just not yet match fit?
I like him, but still wonder if he could play further forward as he clearly likes getting up the pitch and can get past opponents.

Yeah know what you mean about Opoku. It's his style of play that often feels casual. He reminds me of Beckles in that respect. He will play at a much higher level...won't be with us next season...will be snapped up by a club higher up the pyramid......I think Mguire is more a league 1 player. Played well when he got his chance, but seems second choice for some reason.....I wish he'd get a longer run in the side...Up the Stanley!....see you all at Bolton on Saturday....😁⚽️
