Don't know how true this story is but in court apparently the owner who has not paid wages, bills or tax offered £20000 off the £500000 owed this a bloke with a personal fortune if he would have offered a reasonable amount Macc would probably be still around shocking if true.

I wonder what size of club would be 'too big to fail'? As in both the effect on the local/regional economy because so many depend on it for income, and in terms of perceived importance and stature. Or does no club have that status?

If you half a spare half hour, have a listen to this episode of 'The Briefing Room', some interesting stuff on effect of pandemic on footy

Wigan could easily be the next in line! The receivers are looking for someone to pay £4.5 million for the lot (ground, team and training ground), however if not sold, they will take a 15 point points deduction, whereby the receivers would then require £2 million. They have interested parties but are refusing to do business with them. At this rate, they could easily end up being the next Bury/Macclesfield.

I think Wigan will but them when the price is right. Athletic don't own the ground lock stock, the Council does have a share and it it multiuse with exhibitions etc.

The recievers bill is climbing all the time to above a million and counting somebody needs big pockets and a nerve of steel at the moment

A good article in i this morning it goes on about lower league clubs' problems and it uses Stanley as an example of how football clubs are much more than just football and part of the life of smaller towns with clubs going into school, having football clubs for kids during school holidays, helping older people to combat loneliness, collecting food banks etc., etc., etc.

Ah, bless the MSM.
Pity, but not surprising then, that the same organ continues to push the opinions of catastrophist scientific ‘experts’, trying to up the scare-factor over “cases” (not deaths, hospitalisations, or laboratory confirmed infections), which has helped to cause the problem for lower league clubs in the first place.

Aye the word is now that the recievers have knocked back bids from two perfectly good owners because their bids wernt big enough to be able to settle the recivers bills.

The bids put in are for around £2 million, which, if accepted would see a further 15 point deduction for the club, hence the reason they are holding out for £4 million plus. Supporters have raised £700k so far to help with the day to day running of the club, but that will last days NOT weeks. The one interested party who had put a £4 million bid in was scared off by social media reports and pulled out!! I really hope they are succesful in staying afloat.
