Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!
Watch the highlights & weep. I've seen better defending at schoolboy level. |
Re: Oxford away match thread.
The back line lost Hughes and Burgess and Rodgers in my opinion the best 3 with Nottingham being the 4th, all these players are calm on the ball and use it purposely, Savin hurries to much often a punt up to nobody Sherring looked lost first half beaten for pace. This panic on the ball and hurried passing bypassing our midfield and putting them onto the defensive. Ironically the first minutes of the game upto the first goal we were playing well Butcher missing a couple of chances as Coleman says they were clinical if we had been we would have been 2 in front, lots to work on and hopefully Rodgers and Pritchard back soon I am praying we go back to 2 upfront at home against Ipswich.

Spot on Cashman. Should have played 6 across midfield.

Didn’t go or watch the game but the only Stanley match I’ve ever walked out of early was at Oxford. It was in the dying days of the Snake’s tenure and I recall Stanley lost 5-0. It was awful.
So scoring one goal (or two if you have x-ray vision) last night was an improvement. Lots of talk about poor defending but I noted Coley’s reference in his interview to ‘defending’ from the front. Looking at the ‘bare’ stats (in blue, below) it suggests things were not as one sided as the score line implies. In fact, the ‘defensive’ stats for each team (tackles made, interceptions, etc), which showed things in a bit more detail but are no longer online, were quite similar. The BIG difference was the ‘attacking’ stats (in grey/red below). Both teams had a similar number of shots but Oxford’s were three times more likely to be on target. Over half Stanley’s shots were from outside the box. Nearly all from Oxford inside the box and thus a shooting accuracy of 60% compared with Stanley’s 21%. So it seems clear that it’s not just the defenders who have more work to do. |
